@Gavin66627 I'd start off with a few of the cheap games first, give you a taste for it. Ringside Angel is one of my favourites- plus you've got to get Magical Hat Flying Turbo Adventure (one of the best platform games on the system). Let me know if you want any more recommendations :)
Great to see you at the beginning of the journey! I'm with you on the box art - those carts look smashing up front, lined up nice too. I must hunt for some footage of your shelves...!
Not a bad first video(yes I know I'm late to the party) as its interesting to see where some YTers started.
ESWAT is a pain as I can strongly attest to cos the second boss gives me fits like crazy!
I'm wishing I got Strider for the Genesis but I think around the time I got into the system was kind of when it hit its peak and then started fading for the Saturn
Here's a question: Why is it on the Genesis Sega put the logo on the system but not on the MD? Just something I was wondering is all
Watching the archives eh! lol. These games were true childhood classics :)
If you mean the Genesis logo across the console then it was an afterthought- the system was to be called Mega Drive in all regions but there was a trademark issue in the USA. I guess the Genesis had such a noticeable logo so it was clearly distinguished from the MD :)
Yep! Its "Archive" time for another "Youtuber" and you got the lucky pick. I did Lukemorse1's already and he was like "WOW! You watched the old vids?"
Thanks for the clarification on the MD/Genesis thing dude. I've always wondered about that and was going to post the question to luke but I figured you'd be the better man to ask.
Anywho I'll keep watching and commenting so be on the lookout ;)
By the way, I don't really agree that all Japanese versions have better box art. Look at Castle of Illusion and Aladdin for example. I'd like to start a Megadrive collection sometime, but I have a JP PS2 collection already.. and not much room.
Well it's all subjective but I think that Japanese box art is better on both those examples. Castle of Illusion for example uses the same main image but the white background with red and blue colouring looks much better than the plain black background (with grey grids) on the PAL version. Like I say it's all subjective though.
I'm still fond of PAL games as I had a lot of them as a kid.
Holy cow, ESWAT, Strider Hiryu and Gunstar Heroes. I remember having those games. Gunstar Heroes would always be one of the best Genesis titles I have played along side of the Shinobi games. The Genesis translation of Strider Hiryu had the best graphics and music IMO. :D
The Super Shinobi is unforgettable. Along with the kick ass music composed by none other than Yuzo Koshiro (Gotta love the hard percussion ADCPM samples he used in his works, along with the SoR trilogy) It'd be a gold mark in your collection indeed. :)
i think i broke two of my favourite games because every time i remove my MD cartridges from the console i hit them with the console. Why is so difficult to remove MD games from the console???
Hi, you can press the reset button if you wish but it isnt essential. I press it once and then hold the console down with me left hand and then hold the game with my right hand (fingers in the recess on the cartridge back) and gently pull it out. Should be fine then! :-)
Hello, i have a MD since 1989 or 1990 and i swear it, i don´t know how i must do to remove games when i finish playing. I press and push with one hand the blue button RESET and with the other hand i draw out with all my entire forces the game cartridge. Is it really necessary to press the Reset button when you want to get games from console???? please answer
I just gave my Japanese MD game collection a huge boost (from the 3 I currently own) with a rather large job lot on Ebay (with a modded system to boot) and ESWAT is amongst them. I also have Juju. :)
Commando was "Senjou no Okami" (on the famicom), Mercs was "Senjou no Okami II".
It was just nitpicking, really... because I love to wirte and say "Wolf of the Battlefield" rather than Commando or Mercs, those sound so "west" but "Wolf of the Battlefield" is so typical japanese :D
Another interesting fact, Wolf of the Battlefield 3 is actually called that on Xbox Live even in the west... weird.
Honestly, Wolf of the Battlefield 3 isn't really great, I don't like the direction they took with the artwork and well, it's 3D... and therefore looks kinda bland. Nothing beats good old Pixels for this sort of thing.
Yup for sure! I'm going for a full set of Jap games so they'll all be getting picked up at some point! Just missed out on a copy of Dino Land yesterday. Fun looking game. :-)
I loved Dino Land. It was a bit twitchy compared with something like Devil Crash (another excellent game), but it had loads of charm and was a pleasure to play.
Yeah, it's a fantastic game. It's aged really well too and is still bloody addictive. It's one of those games where you just kind of go into a trance when you play it. Brilliant.
OMG you dont have any Sonic games you've got to get some JAP sonic games they have awesome box art and manuals, and the japanese games are PAL btw so UK games will work in a JAP MD and vice versa
Got Sonic 1 & Sonic Spinball- check my later vids! Had a PAL megadrive back in the day and had the cartridge slot filed to fit Jap games in. Now just collect Jap games for the Jap system I have- much nice artwork etc...
Can't believe you got Commando 2 for £2. Bargain! It goes for about £20 on eBay. I got my copy (which I've since sold, sadly) for £2.99 from Gamestation about 10 years ago. Cracking game! Gotta love Magical Fly Hat as well...best platformer on the console if you ask me!
Since got a mint copy of Commando 2 for £10 and gonna sell my other copy- sure I'll make a profit on the £2 I paid for it! lol. Yeah Magical Hat is superb game, one of my faves! :-)
omfg!!!!!!!! Thank you sooo much for saying the name of the jap game with the boy with the turban.. it was sooo cool. I have been looking for it I'm subbing you just for that! lol
crikey the box art for gunstar hero's is absolutely beautiful! the manuals are pretty good looking on the JAP games as well. picked up thunderforce 3, golden axe and forgotten worlds, all beautiful art.
Yeah GH boxart looks fab doesnt it! I agree about the manuals as well, always colourful and good artwork compared to dull PAL ones with those square grids in the background! You picked up some good games, Ive just won Forgotten worlds and cant wait to get it- another of my old favourites! Thanks for the comments :-)
Well they must of speeded up the pal version of ghouls and ghosts as it plays at the right pace on my pal mega drive. I used to have a jap mega drive when the system 1st came out but moved on to the snes. I too have only just really started collecting them again.
Sorry I just removed your comment about instructions by mistake!! Yeah, all mine have instructions AND are in very good > mint condition- Im very fussy like that!
Yeah your right about jap box art. I have a few jap games too in my mega drive collection but I did find that some of the jap games on a pal machine run slower then they are surpose to. I had ghouls and ghosts on jap but it played slower then the pal one. Anyway keep collecting and check out my mega drive collection which some are jap but I have quite a few super famicom games.

Silly fact: Magical Hat Turban Adventure turned Decap Attack in the west.
Also, it's neither Mercs or Commando 2 in Japan, it's "Senjou no Okami" = Wolf of the Battlefield
InsertDisk2 2 years ago
Yeah I knew about Decap Attach- not as good as Magical Hat though.
I understand the translation but then why does it have "II" (2) on the front cover- I thought this represented Commando 2?

Commando was "Senjou no Okami" (on the famicom), Mercs was "Senjou no Okami II".
