this pisses me off. Obama was going to come to my school awhile ago, but i live in a rich republican area, and a bunch of parents protested and had our school rescind our invitation. Not even invitation though..because it was already planned for him to come! Who the fuck did they think they are to say no to the president?! I'm confused? Did they or did they not cut school? Oh they did. Ok then. Now why didn't these kids get a note from their parents before hand and turn it in? Then there'd be no issue. I do applaud these kids though they took responsibility, they said they broke the rules and the suspension was justifiable. Best lesson anyone can learn is that there are consequences for their actions. Even with that being said they still felt their decision was worthwhile.

If I were the gym teacher I would be like cool you got to see a candidate for presidency. One day of missing my class with a signed note then I would be like great you can tell the class how it went.

I mean there are students who go off campus and smoke pot but this is a valid case and I would not mark the student absent.

The only thing it does is excuse you from getting in trouble for anything, or from not being able to participate in something.

actually, in the public school system, schools are granted money from some higher authority every time a student shows up to school. so, no student = no money. When i kid has a legitimate excuse (ie dr. note, funeral..) and/or excused absence, the school still receives money for that students absences. my senior ditch day landed on the same day as some "mexican walk off day" and the local paper made a huge fuss about how much money the school lost from the record breaking amount of absences
