  • can you please do me a favour? dont pick up the heavily pregnant females by their tails, it can damage them, and increase chances of problems during birth. thanks

  • You can use pine for bedding for snakes. It states that in the books.

  • That is so nasty. I get that you need food for your snakes but the rats at least deserve a good life while your using them. Plus rats shouldn't have that many litters. You need to think of the welfare of the rats as well as your snakes. I don't think you would like it if someone bred snakes to feed to another animals but gave them a completely shitty home.

Give the rats some sort of decent life.

  • @woohootoodles Do you think the well fare of the cows that give us milk and meat is thought of? Milk cows alone are constantly kept pregnant so that she's always full of milk and the babies are taken off to be placed in veal crates. Meat cows also stay pregnant, female calves are pumped with hormones so they can start having babies sooner. We're in an industrial world now thus we need industrial farming. I don't foresee a change coming anytime soon, so the bottom line is, we get use to it sadly.

  • pine is fine if you have snakes that dont need humidity just saying

  • What kind of rats are those and did you just pick them up from a pet store or did you have to buy them from a place like mice direct???

  • what do you feed them?

  • What sort of pet shops will buy home bred rodents? I'm interested in learning about breeding mice and rats.

  • did you say his names Micah? haha what's the story behind that name?

  • That Jungle Carpet Is FUCKING Beautiful! I have one at work but she's a way different color!

  • keep feeding that red dog food to your feeder rodents, and you will kill your reptiles

  • do you know if hamster breeding and rat breeding is the same?

  • hey man um are you supposed to clean the cage out after the female gives birth or do you have to deal with the smell of rat shit till the rats grow up? thank man great video

  • I have rat breeding racks as well, except mine are not feeders, i keep all 300 of them!!!

  • Great video thanx for posting sweetie Im thinking of starting a colony as im about to start actively acquiring more snakes and it would be much cheaper to have a colony like yours. Just ignore all the douchebag comments if they think what your doing is cruel they should never eat a hamburger, steak, bacon, eggs, or anything mea ever again! People always say be nice and love your cows, pigs, ect dont kill them but then they turn around and go to McDonalds everything has to eat get over it people!

  • You might want to buy some rats to add genetic diversity to the colony...otherwise you get issues.

I had a batch of baby rats...that started growing and grew until they popped...not kidding. I think it was a genetic deformity or something.

  • Do they smell?

  • i TOTALLY UNDERSTAND WHY YOUR DOOING that... But still..... :/ Just dont hold them behind their tails :(

  • so basically ur forcing rats to have babies, stuck in tht small space thn u will take babies off her and feed them live to ur snakes?? thn make her have more?> u fucking cruel bastard

  • cruel..

  • Great video, very instructional. How often do you clean out the bedding. I currently use kitty litter in my holding rat tubs and there is virtually no smell what's so ever. Do you think the kitty litter would be bad for breeding tubs?

  • where did you get your snake cages at?

  • Great vid, I took notes,,lol

  • Honestly. how bad is the smell of the rats

  • Lol bro thats the shit ahah keep it skater bro...

  • Give them a hide box or something man..rats are smart they will go insane from being bored

  • omg those are some amazing coastal carpet pythons. so jelouse.

  • How many times can you breed a female?

  • @BVreptiles you should only breed them twice/three times. multiple pregnanices(sp?) are very stressful for the females body and if it gets to be too much the mother will start to not take care of her babies. young mothers are also known to do that.

  • nice reptile room!

  • what bothers me the most, is how yo call yours snakes 'a collection', they are animals, living beings, not things you can collect.

  • how long are rats? I need to get the right size cages to breed em

  • Great video's bro.. but got 1 question...isn't it a bit risky keepin animals with an amazing sense of smell in the same room u breed rats in? I only ask bro cause I've kept snakes & lizards 4 goin on 20+ years and mine get nasty in a hurry whenever i so much as bring a rodent into there room.Smoke/drink em if ya gotz em.

  • i spend that in a week on rats

  • Dude over time the rats will chew thru those tubs! If there is any ridge or crease like those have in the front and back, they will eventually chew thru it. Trust me. You have to get tubs that are completely smooth like Mortar tubs!

  • Kickass dude. I have two ball pythons, and I'm taking care of my friend's Cali Kingsnake at the moment. I have a pair of rats which I am REALLY glad I got, for the same reason you got yours.

You definitely have an excellent collection there.

  • hey i never take my male out and i get tons of babies

  • hey i just stated breeding mice could you explain why you put the dog food on top because i seen ppl doing that i just dont no why thanks and i like your rats

  • @corey8069 bro from experience its better to breed rats. Mice stink alot.

  • nice rack

  • do you feed your snakes live or pre-killed rats?

  • awesome vid thanks for the info!

  • nice man just puttin to gether my first one of those:D

  • Great vid mate! :)

  • Dude you dont hold rats by there tails

  • yea i do,.,, all time.. didn't you see the vid..

  • @MeaninglessEndeavor rats hate that i know it hurts them. but thay are too sweet to wine or squeek

  • it doesnt hurt them, as long as you hold it close to the base of the tail, not the tip, its fine. if it hurt them they would squeak

  • @bobclute i agree

  • Pine bedding is NOT "great for rats" its actually one of the things that most knowledgable rat breeders are dead against using because of its tendancy to cause respiratory infections, and face it you dont want to feed your snake sick rats :/

  • if it is kiln dried its ok.

  • I've never seen kiln dried pine shavings before, only "dust extracted" ones :) How does kiln drying reduce the risk of respiratory distress?

  • cedar is a oily type of wood, where as pine is a sapp filled wood. the sap can be crystalized by the kiln process, which doesnt eliminate it but it does remove most of the harmful stuff by drying it up. the biggest rat breeders and suppliers have all there feeder rats on kiln dried pine.... IE rodent pro, mice direct... a ton of others and they have had no ill affects what so ever, many people who are younger and no exsperience what so ever but are quick to be the worlds smartest herpatologist

  • Thats very interesting to know :) I am in Australia, so I am not sure if it is actually available here, but I am going to look into that. I breed rats and mice for pet and show homes, and I spend a lot on paper based bedding for the mice (the rats are on fleece and are toilet trained), so if I can find kiln dried shavings that could save me some money. Thank you for your advice/information :D (if that last comment was intended at me, I know nothing about herps, at all lol, rodents are my forte)

  • it wasnt ment towards u by any means... just in general. i also got some african soft furred rats trained to use kitty litter lol.

  • Oh awesome! Theres such strict quarantine here in Aus that we dont have many exotic animals like those, are they similar to regular rats to own?

  • It does add up

  • How r u saving money if u spend $10 a week on dog food that's only $20 u r saving

  • $20 add that up over a year or so and see what you can buy ;D

  • he said the dog food last"s almost a Month, Not a week.

  • realistically its about 20 bucks a month in dog food. 12 bucks a month in bedding

  • the cages are horrible for them! there is other ways I'm sure to get snake food other then feeding rats that were bred in a box! at least a good cage would be nice

  • yeah your right... im looking into building a bigger rack with bigger tubs.. itll be a few months

  • Its good that you are looking at increasing their enclosure size :) When you think about it, these rodents are keeping your babies alive, so you should treat them with more respect :) [ie. bigger enclosures and toys :)]

  • @MeaninglessEndeavor

    Concrete mixing tubs work well.

  • @horses1525 who cares? they are fucking rats?

  • @horses1525 how can the cages be horrible for them? rats can live anywhere

  • @horses1525 you do know that any rats/mice for food from a pet store are bred in similar if not worse conditions...

  • thanks man your videos help me, but just tell me before i set up my rack, whats the smell like?

  • I know what you mean, Buying Rats is KILLING my Pocket. The prices around here went up from $6.99 to $14.99 for 1 Jumbo Rat! Its crazy i been spending atleast $150.00 a Month on rats now. Im Just now Getting cages set up for Breeding. Thanks for the vid man! 5*

  • Lol thats why i don't keep snakes or bigger reptiles. I'll stick with my iguana, leopard gecko's, parrots and fish =). Idk how you snake hobbiest do it. Power to you guys tho.

  • i honestly don't get how people can do this! rats make better pets then any snake!

  • hey where do you buy the pet rats im looking for one as a pet?

  • petco... petsmart..

  • you know alot about breeding and stuff awsome but pine and cedar will kill your babie rats the stuff you should be using is aspin or marpol

  • ceder yeah.. but im telling you.. contrary to what you might hear rat people preach till they die.. i breed the hell out theise guys.. as we speak i have like 40 pinky rats in the other room.. none of them die. once in a blue moon mom will eat a few but even that's rare. ive been breeding rats on pine for something like 4 years and none of my experience can at all back up anything your saying. pine is less then half the price of aspin. for those that breed to feed i will always recommend it.

  • how much are the plastic intervial cages

  • PINE BEADING KILLS RATS

  • really?.... i swear all mine seem to die from suffocation.

  • Well I know pine/cedar is bad for snakes. Do you think housing the rats on this type of bedding would be a problem because of that?

  • no it has to do with the oils in the wood that is bad for the reptile. but its very common to keep rodents on it.. mammals react to it much differently.. deaths in my rat rack are very uncommon.. i almost never loose anything above a fuzzy

  • Ah ok. Thanks :P

  • no its not !!! pine and cedar KILL small animals and its bad for almost every rodent !!!

  • tell that to the thousand or so rats ive produced in the last year.... none of them died from their breading... they all got eatin first.

  • and just to let you know the oils from those shavings your using are rubbing onto the feeders and its slowly killing your reptiles .... yes the oils are bad for repyiles lol your a horrible owner if you didnt know that haha

  • Hey man Just wondering how often do you let your momma rats breed???...

  • as often as they can. from the moment shes done nurseing i put her back with the male and usually she breeds again within a few weeks. after about 3 or 4 litters i feed off the female and replace her with a younger one.. so on and so fourth. your males are good for a solid 6-8 months of breeding. after that they still breed but not as prolificly

  • do u put bleach in the rat water bottles?

  • na ... there rats man.. i figure there relatives live in sewers and shit... fuck it.

  • lol yea gotta point

  • I was wondering where you get those black tanks from. Right now I am using normal tanks with slide lids but I love the look of those way better!

  • i breed them.. the thing about all my rats is theyre all related.. every rat i have came from the same original male and female i started with like 8 months ago

  • do you have video who show how you pre kill yours rat?

  • yes i do .. check my main page i think its called how to pre kill a rat.

  • Your hobby is certainly starting to get expensive...

  • yeah... seariously

  • it is not a smart choice to several species in the same terrarium.. so you know.

  • its a male and female and there in breeding season.. besides their not different species, there different subspecies.. so thank you so much for your wonderfully educational lecture in husbandry.

  • hahaha

hey just woundering im gunna breed mice thats as easy asrats right?

  • how can you afford all of that stuff bro? that must be THOUSANDS of dollars worth of herp shit in that room awesomely done video tho

  • just one thing at a time man.. i started this collection over three years ago. every month i put money into it and try to make things better.. its been allot of work but its verry rewarding.

  • youv got some ace setups there man

  • thanks man

  • my bad you awnsered it lol

  • I will probably breed mice but, I suppose this question will be the same for bth. The question is how much money each month do you spend on the supplys for them each month?

  • nice vid man, love your jungle and that last snake u shown looks awesome, do you still have any tarantulas.

  • yeah i still have quite a few. ill do a spider vid sometime soon

  • i'm going to need to do that eventually. good luck with the macklots. Your jungle also looks really good

  • Shit I need to start breeding! I spend $40 a week!

  • im telling you its the way to go. home depot is definitely a keepers best friend.. up keep can be a pain in the ass tough.. if you go to long with out cleaning the fuckers you will know from the second you open the door to your house... but if kept up well its no big deal

  • Looks like it, Maybe I will build it.

I can clean it up no problem just need a area were to put them....no more room anywere only outside but with 110+ summers im not sure if they will live.

  • yeah iont know if you can tell but im sort of running out of room myself... two more cages and the snake room will be finished... itll be cool... now i just need like 600 bucks... ehh..cages are fucking expensive.

  • nice man, I see the cages that you use and thats pretty cool. what cages are they?

I know it man, Im a ball python guy and the racks are just as bad.

  • there made by animal plastics

  • Fo Sho Tho
