Cities where darker years ago, its not the old film, the street lights were dim and car headlights were not as bright as today. The wonderful neon lights helped , but not much. I remember this '' nightime look'' from when i was a child in the 1950's. In the 1960's they started changing all the street lamps with new aluminum poles and brighter lights, it never had that same nightime city look again. The sky was actually darker in the 1950's than today.
@1952kid Your spot on kid I also grew up in the 50's and some of earliest memories are of car rides at night and these huge vividly colored signs. Red glowing lips that were three stories high and there was this diner that had giant neon knife and fork.
This footage, was shot on Miami Beach in April of 1952. Pickin Chicken was located on 22nd and Collins Ave. and 71th and Collins Ave. The Movie, "With a Song in my Heart" came out in April of that year. The Color of this film footage is just GREAT.........Thanks for posting this very rare film footage.....AWESOME.....
I was just curious, what year was this exactly? Was this taken from an 8mm camera? I heard that they didn't have sound ability, but then again, I know that that was only certain models.
The 1950s looks like an interesting place to visit.

@chuckmanofgod I'm not sure when the footage was shot. It is 8mm and I added the background sound when I edited the footage.

This makes me want to be around in the 1950s. I'm sure life was more exciting and relationship oriented back then.
