It's because of the Xvid codec, I had the same problem when using moviemaker and make an xvid video into wmv.
Download xvid codec and enable competabilitymode in windows moviemaker.

i don't kow if you've solved the half green problem, but to stop it, you click the Tools menu, and then Options, go to Compatibility tab of the Option dialog box, locate the Xvid MPEG-4 Video Decoder filter and un-tick the check-box to disable it. (this is assuming you're using windows movie maker)i've got a bone to pick with green half screens
