This was also the 1980's and there was an incident where a police officer shot and killed a boy because he thought he had a pistol. It turned out it was a Laser Tag gun, which was also later had it's design changed to a more playful look.

@BegUltra no, it was storyboarded. ultra magnus leads reinforcements into battle against devastator, after he defeats the dinobots. they manage to separate the constructicons from each other, but then they are pinned down by gunfire, and red alert is shot to death.

I remembered that during one of the commercials, this was billed as the last fight between Optimus Prime and Megatron. The first time I ever saw this... I was so shocked I didn't talk for almost two weeks, having grown up always thinking that Optimus would never fall in battle to Megatron.

After the movie there were thousands of letter s from outraged parents claiming their kid was devastated by the death of Prime. so they brought him back

It's odd, I've never watched Transformers the animated series, or read the comics, but I know a lot of the backstory etc due to the research I did following Transformers by Michael Bay in 2007.

That's essentially irrelevant in the fact that what surprises me in this video is how similar the voices of Optimus and Megatron sound to Michael Bay's movie voices - is there some sort of connection or was that just clever casting on Bay's part?

This Megatron actually puts up a much better fight than Megatron did in ROTF and in DOTM. Had Megatron fought as good if not better than this, I would have been satisfied and would have had no issues with his head getting hacked off by a one armed Optimus. He's also a pretty quick thinker and a strategist compared to how slow and clumsy he was in the films. That's what I hated about Michael Bay's interpretation of Megatron. He has failed to get Megatron right THREE times.
