  • excellent

  • you suck on guitar.... NO i am just kidding you are fucking great at guitar! :O :D

  • funny

  • Yeah!!

  • Very original...doesn't sound at all like Malmsteen.

  • @matrags True!! He has that Malmsteen vibrato tho lol.. Which is BEAUTIFUL!!!!

  • ehm... sure???

  • do u use an attenuator or earplugs? lol

  • No.

  • dude thats no period lol

  • dude go get a life

  • wat scales do you use to improvise

  • That's a lot of marshalls........ it sounds amazing!!!

  • I hail the Marshall gods !!!!!

  • damn, early yngwie tone all the way with an SG, get out......

  • I heard a little George Lynch at 00:35 - 00:38

  • you can definatly hear the yngwie influence in this one. great song cheers.

  • Virtuoz!!

  • I'm thinking CD my friend to go along with the killer Excess-1 riffbuckers !!!!!

  • Killer! I want the demo.Itunes??Shrapnel?Guitar9?LionMusic?CDbaby?

  • this is my favorite original of yours. great playing, and great tone

  • so awsome..

  • Very good song.

    You are an excellent player.

I like a lot your videos, keep rocking like that.

    And good SG.

  • lol, so you only pay yngwie style !!! i didn't know yo could play yngwie on a SG guitar ... lol

  • Look at his playlist dumbass !!!!!

  • That is so Yngwie. Great Job

  • Nice SG. Also, I notice, one hiwatt cab? Any particular reason for that?

  • Damn....you noticed. I pretty much pieced these stacks together whenever I could find a good deal on head or cabinet. Unfortunately, I haven't found another Marshall bottom cab.

  • Hey riffguy nice vid. And maybe you could help me out with regards to a scalloped fretboard.

I have clubbed fingers, do you think a scalloped fretboard might help me to play with a bit more ease?

  • I'm really not sure if it would help or not. A scalloped fretboard might make it more difficult for you to play. I guess you'd need to try one out sometime.

  • i think the laggy camera makes the fretting look sweet.

    nice vid Riffguy

  • epiphone sg??

  • Nope, Gibson.

  • MARSHALLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    YAAAYY

  • My vibrato comes mostly from rocking my wrist rather than finger movement.

I think the most important tip for developing a good vibrato is to remember that you need to apply it accordingly. From an early age I noticed some players had a vibrato that was always the same speed regardless of the tempo of the song, which in my mind just sounded wrong.

My goal was to achieve a wide, smooth & even vibrato which was in time with the music.

  • There lots of guitar parts suppliers online.

  • You should be able to get them from any Gibson dealer (if you want original ones) or there are different manufacturers that make ones that will fit.

  • I use Ernie Ball Regular Slinky RPS 10-46. This guitar has the stock 57 Classic humbucker in the bridge position and a Riffbucker at the neck. It also has a scalloped fretboard, which wouldn't really affect the tone.

One little trick I do to my Gibsons is swap the 300k volume pots for 500k, this gets rid of some of the muddiness...it's a very worthwhile mod.

  • Whoa! Who do you trust to scallop your fretboards? I always enjoy your vids, keep posting!

  • I scallop them myself.

  • I just plugged it in and played it.

  • is this just based off of an f# phrygian?

  • F# Phrygian Dominant for the heavy part and B Minor for the acoustic section.

  • Like any other musician, he has collected them over the years.

  • It really, really, really sounds like your playing a Strat, not this SG. Doesn't even sort of sound like an SG. That's probably a good thing as the Strat tone your seeming to get here (Yngwie anyone?) is awesome, but sure doesn't normally come from a humbucker eequipetd SG.

  • Damn fine, love the song.

  • fantastic...

  • Has alot of George Lynch type ending notes!! Absolutely kick ass!!

  • Great playing, great tone, and great video presentation. Thanks for sharing and please add more.

  • what a great piece of music. You are really great!!

  • dude get a real drummer. this would be so rad if the drums didnt sound so fake.

  • I real drummer would be great, but the drummer I used on this song works cheap, doesn't do drugs or raid my fridge, shows up for rehearsals and best of all....doesn't ask to borrow money.

  • hahahaha greatest comment ever. yeah i completely agree. you should learn to play some simple beats then. thats what i do on my recordings and with some minor eq and cutting and shit to perfect, it sounds great.

  • And takes up little space LOL.

    Great work Paul!

  • Sick sick sick playing. In this particular clip, your playing reminds me of Marty Friedman, but much cleaner.

  • One thing is to be technically perfect, which you are from my point of view. But the most important thing is: It really sounds beautiful.

  • umm do you really have so huge marshall stacks?

  • I would pay to see him play live no doubt

  • Hey Riffguy, just out of curiosity (because it sounds so amazing) you do a downward run between 0.06 and 0.10, what kinda run is it? is there any yngwie song with something similar so i can get a tab? what key or mode?

  • It's a very simple descending sequence using the B harmonic minor scale. You should be able to figure it out by ear from this video. The only trick about it is that you have to do a lot of position shifts. This is something I came up with on my own, but I'm sure Yngwie has done something similar before.

  • awesome stuff. thanks man! you'll hear from me again no doubt, next time i wanna copy one of your awesome descending runs :D cheers!

  • man, do i ever miss dime.....well at least i get a nice feel from this with the vibrato that i hear in your junk in the trunk. haha

  • Beautiful man, I loved it.

Are the drums a drum machine, or do you have the tracks on your computer? Or something else perhaps?

  • The drums are loops which I use in conjunction with Cubase recording software.

  • Yeah epic song. Wow.

    Robin :o)

  • I like the song name. Its epic

  • That was crazy man, good job!!

  • Very nice! any chance I could get an Mp3 to download?

  • Paul your best video yet, in my eyes!

  • dude i love, in a none gay way. I want to party with you

  • riffguy you are the fucking king of youtube! i love this tune, i often listen to it on myspace. crazy speed, mega vibrato and balls of steel! that SG sounds alot like a strat mindyou ;)

  • it sounds like malmsteen

  • Yup sure does :)

  • love everything you play on that Ovation!

  • ...thats awesome playing!! That Blackmore/Malmsteen style you have nailed it, with your own subtle style!! I really dont get why you are not making a living as a top rock guitarist? There are so many players out there that are not a patch on the Riffguy!!!

  • awesome. other than that, i am speechless.

  • Had to add this one Brother,Great tone and great chops. Mike
