Man, it's surgery. I'm not one for organ meats. My parents occasionly have sweet breads or brains, things like that or liver. No more liver for me, mom.
Alright, I am not one who is afraid to try many foods. I will almost always try something if offered, and I've seen some things that some might find 'disgusting', but this truly looks disgusting to me. It really does. Perhaps I would try a piece of a ready cooked meal with kidney, and it might even be not as bad as it looks, but the sight of that raw, cut in half kidney just looked absolutely vile to me.
Everyone in my family is tellung me that kidneys were so tasty but I must admit that I never ate any dish that contains kidneys or liver because I am getting sick of the smell... I prefer them as organs in my body keeping my blood clean and I am disgusted, imagining all the excrements in the organs landing on my plate... urgh...
Titli, question. I know liver needs to be prepared by removing membranes and the likes and I have found descriptions on what to do with beef or pork liver. But Chicken eludes me. Do you have a hot tip on these? As they are so much smaller, it seems I am too fat-fingered to find the needed places to snip or scrape...
@WishStone They are so small I usually just chop them up and use them to make pate, or there is a soooper Middle-Eastern dish using fried chicken livers called... I'll have to look it up :-/
Sorry Titli, but kidney and liver are filters that contain plenty of stuff we should definitely NOT eat. Sometimes these organs can even contain heavy metals and chemicals in a quantity far beyond the acceptable level, so that they should be dumped in a special place for contaminated materials. Of course the degree of containation also depends on where and how the animal was bred!
But generally speaking, better not eat that. (take my advice, I'm a veterinary!)
@harrysmithhush Not only where the animal was bread, but also how big and how old the animal was.
I do not eat livers from adult cows, pigs or even baby cows / veal. What I do eat, and loads, is chicken liver. I'd be careful with shouting out what you've posted, as it easily misleads people. Go out, Titli-People, and learn more about such things. Eating pre-made foods is much worse for you, than eating a kidney pie or some fresh chicken livers.
Thanks for the tip but how does one effectively deal with the urineferous odour from fresh kidneys ?
irfand4 3 months ago
@irfand4 Wash them well in water. You wont eliminate the odour until you cook them, but it will help.
TitliNihaan 3 months ago
@irfand4 Place them in some water an vinegar for about 10 minutes first. The Vinegar will remove the odor.

@irfand4 my grandma puts kidneys (with renal pelvises cut out) in a milk overnight before cutting them or cooking them. i'd say it helps.

@irfand4 Soaking them in milk over night works wonders - also over cooking will cause them to be more pungent.

lol at the people that are saying 'omg eewww!'
most kidneys and livers sold in stores do not contain anything that would kill you.
plus if we all ate only things that were good for us the world would be over populated with people screaming 'get off my lawn!'
