  • @rckmmmm- you described what I could not. This band is tremendous! And this song... WOW what a musical performance. The ALL TIME BEST DISCO SONG YET SO MUCH MORE.

  • Emanuel Rahiem Leblanc is my uncle! He's the reason I got into music. Love you uncle. Hope you come back down and see us soon.

  • I saw GQ this summer at Harlem Summer Stage, an outdoor (free) concert held each summer at the Adam Clayton Powell State Office Building. GQ was also in the African American Day Parade in Harlem in September. I really didn't know he was from the Bronx.

  • ...and I'm still trying to play that bass line..."Sabu" is so damn good.

  • Thank you Steve! The only other performance I could ever find of this song is the lip synced American Bandstand appearance. I always felt it was a crime that bands this good were made to lip sync on that show. I posted this on my Facebook page as an example of true musicianship of a bygone era when pop and dance acts actually had to play the music themselves sans electronics and samples. I was a child when this came out but have always loved it. Thank you for posting. It's amazing.

  • No laptops, no sample tanks, no dj's, no loop drum tracks...just real instrumentation and talent. Incredible.

  • @ccrecords thats right ccrecords.. thank s from rah, herb sabu, kevin and me, Steve A.

  • One Nation, Fencewalk, Dazz, Ain't No Stoppin' us now, Movin'...are all "Hall of Fame" , but THIS ...is my favorite old school jam of all time!!Many Thanks!

  • @overjam1 thank you too !

  • Looks like a group that need to be on tv one's show Unsung.

  • @katch320 please write the show and tell them to contact me on this page...

  • @rckmmmm Again...this exchange of ideas with you rckmmmm has been a pleasure. If u are a teacher, rahiem and i would be honored to come speak to your class's about this subject and the music biz in general.. Steve Adorno steve@seguida.net

  • @rckmmmm correct again sir....we absorb the many genre's of music but the fusion of the styles should come back out as something new...not a reflection of the ingredients put in. Sort of like what a master chef does with food and spices.

  • @rckmmmm i believe whaT your hearing in this performance transcends the music. your hearing a conversation between musicians. we all came from the same neighborhood and have similar social backgrounds. our musical "chatter" is something that we developed from spending hours together not only rehearsing our songs but also spending a lot of time together as people. that emotional bond between us results in a sort of language that we spoke to each other musically. thats why we "sound" different.

  • @rckmmmm For us...the decision to give the music from our souls really was no decision at all. its more like a calling. Like what happens to people of religious faith. i know for myself, i had no choice. It picked me and i could not deny my soul of its need.Yes there is a sacrifice. choosing to lead the life of an artist can be quite challenging at times. thats why it "MUST" be a calling. one must not want to be an artist for "FAME". You are an artist because its in your soul to do this.

  • @SEGUIDA Now there are tears, because I was going to say something similar. I mean, when I hear this song, and when I heard it years ago, it seems to emanate from the spirit, from a place deep within. These highly inspired musicians seem to be drenched in a special "calling" in this captivating performance. What a study!

  • @rckmmmm now think a moment about the concept of this socially developed "musical chatter". when you go see a big artist today, the band is usually made up of seasoned veteran's. great "Guns For Hire" who go on tour and learn the artist music to do a "show". Great. No Problem. Now go listen to bands like "jackson 5" (brothers& friends)... erth, wind, fire (brothers & Cousins) ...kool&gang (bro's & best friends).. a few more too... they sound like no one else because of the "music chatter) they tal

  • @rckmmmm hi, i am steve A. , the drummer in this GQ video. i put it up. Thank u for ur kind words & insight to our music & performance. Practice and experience do result in smooth confident fun experience for us ON STAGE. We learned that as long as we were having fun then the fans would get caught up min OUR good time and join in. It works ever time. Its not about all the staged distractions. its all about playing and giving the best performance from deep in our souls. you can see it here.

  • please forward this Video to all young musicians who aspire to command a stage. you must first learn to fill the stage with your presence and talent...not with props and dancers. Yes we were a crossover band breaking into new markets. How? By being open minded musicians & artist. We learned young how to play jazz, latin, rock, reggae and r&b music. you can hear the fusion of all the types of music in our playing. Fun is the key element here. thanks again rckmmm for warming my soul!

  • RCKMMMM, FROM RAHIEM, SABU, HERB, KEVIN AND MYSELF, STEVE... GQ THANK'S YOU FOR UNDERSTANDING OUR MUSIC AND YOUR DEEP AND SOUL TOUCHING WORDS. you warm our hearts.

  • I just discovered this song recently while listening to XM. This is the joint! This is before my time, but it makes me wish that I could have experienced this music first hand. Must have been great times!

  • Favorite Dance Song Ever !!

  • wow ... great upload ... many many thanx ...

  • Ahhhhh! I'm thankful I know what "real" music is. They played their own instruments and sang with their mikes "on"!! Unlike today, a monkey can make an album and beat most of today's so-called artists/musicians singing. For some reason Ashley Simpson comes to mind.

  • Nice!

  • I had great disco nights with this song in the Carribean! Now I am in Europe and we still enjoy the music of the 7/8 tees (with the children and grandchildrens!) ha,ha!

  • i always think of my friend vickey and her amazing bday mix when i hear this....bella 76 rock on!....bella76 dizzot com check it out!

im dangind in my chair now

    raghkstar out!

  • I love this song and GQ! I love all the club classics and wish I had been around in the 1970's but I wasn't born until 1978:( Thanks for the post. The first time I heard this song was when I was 14 and listening to a local radio stations disco saturday night. Loved it ever since.

  • The Jordache/Sasson Era! I miss these days..I was six years old being turned out on these sounds..GQ and CHIC, PATRICK ADAMS were the glue in keeping that FUNK alive in the late 70's post "G&H" reign.. They have an alternate version of this song with a longer conga break that sounds a lot "dirtier" in the mix. I can only hear it on the cable stations...I have "Soul on Your Side" already another monster..Their version of "Boogie Oogie" is waaaaayy better. Much respect to GQ!!

  • me too

  • Don't forget those jeans called "Devils"

  • When I heard this treck for the first time I broke out in goose pimples, it's so hot. I am now 40 yrs young but often feel I was born in the wrong era and would've loved to be in my teens early or twenties and in the U.S.A at the time this great music was killing the scene, Thankyou.

  • Proof that a Disco band sounds as good live as they do in the studio. What I would give to see these cats do their thing in concert.

  • I remember my moms having this album when the t.v. went out during the summer of 1979 and she listened to two albums Teddy Pendergass and GQ man was it annoying to 13 year old ears at time but as I became a bass player I realized how great this musical era was.

  • this is such a great story! thank you for sharing it and im glad you finally dig us!

    STEVE GQ ADORNO

  • This is by far my all time favorite song. This "live" performance rocks! Get down GQ!

  • This man has an amazing voice, he can sing my panties off, and I'm only 28 yrs old....LOL

  • Great video thanx cuz. This is still one of my favorites. Man, they don't make music like this anymore. Bass line is off the hook!!!

  • I love this ... they look like they were having an awesome time!

  • keith crier and keith sweat are two completely different people! they are not related, although we all hung out together for awhile back in the day!

  • @SEGUIDA Oh Yeah!

    Everrrrrbody Rock Freak!

    Thank U man,

And U guys are So Masculine & Sexy too '-'

  • woo sing it uncle rannie! :D i love you!

  • cool thats your uncle singing one of my fav songs. tell hime he got a fan that was just born around when this came out.

  • Everybody always talked about how good he was.

Raheim from the furious 5 said Raheim was always supportive of him in the 1970s so he said he named himself after your uncle.

--He was great! To sing and dance and PLAY?

----Being from Uptown where did Keith Sweat come in? Was Keith Crier his dad?

  • They sound better than the groups today!

  • There was a time, when music was used for making you fell GOOODDD! Why there are not more bands like that anymore?

  • because the simpletons today are about themselves they wanna be the only one on stage talking about what they have

  • because very few young people have the focus that it takes to learn , study and master the instrument of their choice....its a sample and steal it world!!!

  • thank you so much for posting this record! i am 24 years old and i know all this funk songs....... thanks

  • The lead singer was a killer on the drums as well as the guitar!

  • Man! these dudes were it! This song will still get a room full of people going nowadays.

  • Classic... nigga wheres my penny loafers at ?, i feel like dancin'

  • OH YEAH!!! LOL!!

  • Is,nt this song called soul on your side because i had an album of the same title were,nt they called The Rhythm makers then?

  • i liked this song more than most others , and he drummer will read this, seguida, small world, would think very many would want to write something to a member of the band here but only 23 , soon more when the word gets out.

  • thank you for your kind words and your support!

  • doesnt this sound just like the lp version... u cant find that these days! Peace to SEGUIDA for blessing all the old school lovers for this classic gem!!

  • thanks...peace & love to you too!
