Wendel Berry is absolutely right. This is a pro-agribusiness initiative, made to benefit them by killing the small food producers. The irony is, the large scale outbreaks of salmonella, e. coli, and other pathogens, and the subsequent food recalls and cases of food poisoning have ALL occurred in the large scale agribusiness operations, but those health risks are perversely being used to promote big agribusiness and destroy small family farm operations.
Wendell Berry is my hero! I just finished "The Unsettling of America - Culture and Agriculture" and its content is still extremely pertinent. Thank you, Mr. Berry, for being the small family farm champion for many generations.
Food freedom is about as basic as it gets. My land, to grow what I want. My body, to consume what I want.
My state will not be forcing us to chip our chickens, pay a $500 food producer tax every year, and submit to unannounced inspections on my watch.
