I like how the live version starts compared to the album version. It sounds much more modern. Unfortunately, with the exception of the intro, I feel that the live version has always failed to be anywhere near as intense as the album version. Also, that singing douche in the crowd strikes again :(
@Elslav Actually, old live performances of this song sound about the same. NIN was just never really able to capture the intensity of this song live...
The worst was in Paris this last Summer, Theywere playing March Of The Pigs, so obviously most of the people where jumping/pogoing but there was those fucking assholes that looked annoyed by people enjoying themselves. And this fucking bitch just tried to kick me in the face because we were "moving too much" She's lucky I didn't broke her fucking leg, if she can't take people dancing, then just go back to the free seats and stop ruining the show.

Don't like any of those videos to be honest, not a friend of that "personal feel" BS. NIN doesn't sound rich in those videos and the constant singing along by the audience IS annoying and it fucks up the performance.
Sounds like this song is a bit harder to do live than Ruiner. Don't expect this or Ruiner to sound anything like the recording because I doubt its humanly possible.
Any Downward Spiral-era track live won't sound as good as it did back when Trent was fucked up on drugs... the cocaine-driven rage is what fueled NIN's live shows back then.
Plus u gotta remember that this is a fan made video, all put together and shot from ppl in the audience. So its only obvious your gonna hear ppl singing and comments. I think it adds to the presentation and gives it a more personal feel than having a professional studio record it. Excellent job to those who made this all happen. Oh and i so wished i could have been there... amazing show, just amazing ^^
This has got to be my favorite song on this album to kick the shit out of something to... Not a human being, but, possibly, a dry wall I want to take out... All that's left is dust in one minute thirty nine seconds xDDD
I sing along to every NIN song at every NIN show I've ever been too. If you don't like it then get yourself a seat at Trans Siberian Orchestra. You'll fit in nice there, UES0101
alright, so remove the drunk part and we're still down to the asshole part.
i don't mind people enjoying themselves; hell, sing along for a couple of your favorites, but if you're doing it the entire show, then you're doing it wrong.
people pay to see and hear the performer, not the audience. in this particular case, this guy is obnoxiously loud to the point of drowning out the actual show.
I'll agree that I've been peeved by some of the people I've encountered at NIN shows. Especially the piss drunk ones who chant for March of the Pigs during every song (even after it's been played).
But fuck it. It's a show. You're there to enjoy yourself just like everyone else so you might as well try. Really, how could you not have a total blast seeing NIN? People are going to be assholes. People will scream during Hurt. Appreciate that the music elicits such emotion.
I'd also like to point out that it's nearly impossible to capture perfect audio at such decibels. If you were there, you would hardly notice the people shouting over the sound of the music itself.
Proof that it's a near impossibility to record perfect audio at a loud concert? Just take Beside You In Time for insist - and that was recorded directly from the sound board. Most consumer and prosumer have insufficient mics. I have a Rode VideoMic on a Canon HV30 with the filter on and still get mediocre audio.
Someone's never been to a show it seems. Loosen your sphincter and drop some of those pearls you've been cultivating.
It's not a fucking orchestral performance at Lincoln Center. It's a NIN concert, if you're not screaming along, dancing and flailing, then you're doing it wrong.
been to plenty of shows, thank you. i used to think of shows differently, but i guess i got older; now when i go, i go to see and hear the performance.
anyone got a lawn i can borrow and tell people to get off of? =P
its weird how you expect this song to sound better live - but it doesnt
still awesome tho
mmcytb 10 months ago
@mmcytb Well the studio version probably has 20 or so tracks of overdubbed guitar. Can't get that sound live. Sounds pretty good for four guys.
