Shrg, i think it was just because we had a strong program for music... and plus everyone just did music...
we had 3 middle schools that had marching bands and everyone sort of transitioned into the marching band.
Oh and having, I think, around 3500+ students at the high school at any time helps too! You forgot about the orchestra program, they also make up a significant number of students.
hmm im not going to reveal my identity as a band member... but ill just say this i play the flute and i am in a band and im going into my 2nd year of band playing so that enough well ill say one more thing im not from arcadia but im a huge fan.. even though my school doesnt approve of AHS fans well the high school i go to, we have to pay for probably 100% to 98% of band entry fees so thats like a 210 "donation" do u know how much arcadia pays well my points is... i just dont like how ppl are
framerian: back in 2003 they had ~450 members, but today they are down to ~400 or a little less. The AUSD school board cut out the elementary music program in an economy move, and consequently the AHS band has suffered in terms of personel. But even at ~400 musicians, they are an impressive band to hear and see in person.
fluteAHS: It is not that people don't like band, I believe part of the reason is cost. You have to really committed in terms of money and time. AUSD only pays for the instructor's salaries. Everything thing else is paid for by the Arcadia Music Club and the student, mostly student, I would estimate probably around 60/40%
Do you play or did you play in the AHS/Apache band? Last school year 2007-2208, The Apache band had something like 50 flutes, wow what a sight.
It was kinda nice for the class of 2003 cause the folks that were in the band as freshmans marched in the Rose Parade their first year and then got to march in it their last year. On rose parade years, we march everyone, the pit percussion crew even strap on whatever drums we can beg, borrow, or steal from the middle schools and they march.
I got a question for anybody that was or is in Arcadia. Probably heard this question a million times, but how did you guys get so big?

I slept on the street to watch that Rose Parade. After that experience I have one thing to say -- MORE PORTABLE RESTROOMS!
