Everything is a mess here. I do free improv all the time and work with all artists from all genres of music. The key to improvising well and making the experience complete for your listeners, is to be a GOOD, deep listener yourself. Its not about playing as loud and with as many notes, over the other instruments as much as possible people.
all of what you say is totally subjective and naive. there is no one way of doing anything. as much as i respect your sentiment for improvising in certain contexts i also appreciate this sort of improvising as well. its different. certainly not GOOD or BAD. be careful how you dispense with your attitudes. the key to good improvising is DIFFERENT for everyone. be well.
i appreciate this, i don't have to be careful nor censor my opinions but i have given myself an opportunity to check out her other improvisations and learned on my own that she is a great improviser. i'm not here to give constructive criticism of how others comment on videos. the artist isn't concerned with what attitudes i have. you are right there is only different forms of improvisation. thank you for your insight much appreciated.
I saw the same trio at an other concert: drums were great, saxes were great, but the koto just sucked. It shows that you don't only need to furiously mess around on something for this music (as some think). It was also clear that Brötzmann was unsatisfied with her too.
Can't even hear her do anything over all the drums and saxaphone's noise. Those are really expensive instruments, the bass koto she is bowing and the one behind her is the 20 stringed koto, not very easy to purchace.
