  • wow, the video is amazing!!!!!!!

  • This is one of the most brilliant videos I've ever seen! I LOVE this! Not to mention her exquisite voice.......

  • take note GaGa. THIS is how its done..!

  • Always loved Annie's Conservative look. She made it look soooo sexy :)

  • I have never seen nor heard of this song, but it's SO out there! Bizarre, unique, nothing quite like it before or since. Leave it to Annie! She is an artist on ALL levels.

  • I love her actions and looks on her face when she comes out of the bedroom and starts her tirade after her "transformation". hehe

  • @tall32guy I do too. It's amazing see how free a woman can be when she just lets go. I guess this video is very relateable to many people because we all know stressed and unhappy women in our lives who we wish they could just find themselves and have a moment of freedom. I know I do, my mother and my grandmother. One bears the weight of the entire family's problems on her shoulders, and the other one works what seems to be an endless job.

  • Now I know what a household looked like in the 80s. Sheesh, how interior decorating has changed dramatically.

  • @MyidolGwen Too bad you didn't experience the 80's first hand. 80's music is still the best - 90's came close - 00's paled in comparasion - 10's are an embarrassing joke. So, I would take the 'different' interior decorations and great music, over lack luster music of today.

  • @fvalen001 There's good music today, you just have to find it. The overall vibe in the 80's was just the best: creative music with melody and rhythm, colorful style and it was all a lot of fun. People can only shadow that, today.

  • This video and song were playing on a massive projection screen the very first time I went to a night club at age 18 - watching this brought the whole night flooding back - the detail of conversations, friends I haven't thought about in years, the bouncer checking my ID, everything. Oh, the eighties, nineties, and my youth - where did youse all go.....???!!

  • And people today think nikki minj is talented. So sad how far we have regressed culturally in the last 2 decades.

  • Lady Gaga isn't fit to kiss Annie's ass.

  • @jdbadboy Ha, ha, ha! Well said.

  • One of the best music videos ever

  • This track kicks ass!

  • :O qe dicen :$

  • For God Sake!!! why couldn't i have grown up in the 80's urgh!! i have to be a 90's child.

  • @hannahhazlehurst Just look at it this way. Do a little history, it's all there for the taking on whatever format, and there are many retro stations playing 24/7. The one thing, as a DJ, growing up in 70s & 80s, was, you had to wait for things to come out or be released. Now, you not only have the original cuts, but remastered, digital, and remixes. It's quite fascinating, if not expensive.

  • Its silly to compare singers groups and so-forth. Its all a matter of opinion. What one person thinks a singer or group to be the best and most talanted, Another may think just the opposite.

  • Lady Gaga Bla Bla - Listen en Learn!!!

  • Oh we all know Lady GaGa is gonna try and copy this shit at some point. lol

  • Very intelligent video only Eurythmics could have done. Annie <3 so sick in this video, love her.

  • Wow. This has way more shock value than Lady Gaga and Madonna's videos imo.

  • @newfful Agreed.

  • I heard a few scraps of the 5th symphony in the song

  • @KatherineExe good ear

  • no songs today like that

a strong song with the big sound at 80s

    5*****

  • @xulete007 yeah, ya right bub

I'm 16 and I hate my fucked generation

  • beethoven is a woman?! o.0?

  • just...FABULOUS!!!

  • so imaginative

  • 3:43 - best part of the video!

  • This is hilarious love this song x

  • I love to-listen to-EURYTHMICS!

  • Annie looks like Lois from "Malcolm in the Middle' in this wig.

  • Not even Lady Gaga can beat this kind of character portrayal

  • Way superior to many other famous female performers of the past 25 Years!

  • she knits very well :o

  • This is from 1988's Savage album. A breath of synth air after two albums of rock and roll. In the early 80s, the Eurythmics dropped their cool synth sound for good ol' rock. I loved them and was worried but when Savage came out it really told a story........ and the story is............ The rock stuff was Dave Stewart's idea. Savage was Annie's and it can be argued that Savage was her first solo album.

    It's her story.

  • I don't prefer to listen to Beethoven, but I love to listen to Eurythmics :)

  • I need a girlfriend with OCD, my home is a mess.

  • OVERWELMING PERFORMACE!!!

  • WAY ahead of her time....need her back...

  • Eurythmics - I love to listen to! Amazing song. ahead of its time.

  • favourite song from euryhtmics, fucking awesome

  • The part form 1:56 "...like a cafe foooor egzample..." makes me pee from laughter :D

  • It's amazing how Annie captured the characters' traditional looks based on their voices, like charicatures of American female stereotypes. I wish more people considered her as a role-model for young talent.

  • "Wouldn't you?!"

  • the best!!! :) (a)

  • I think I have the right to something EXTREME TOO! LOL I love this video! So creative!

  • Gosh, Music was Grand then "Golden" I was Dreaming like a Texan Girl, A girl who thinks she got the right to everything! Classic Like no Others -jzebraa 2011

  • A duet of this song with laurie anderson performing the spoken parts could be really awesome!!

  • I love to listen to Eurythmics.

  • So f*ing good!!!

  • incredible this song come to my mind and vuala!!! i found it after 23 years amazing.

  • 1987... this still seems fresh and brilliant.

  • That housewife is about to take an ax, whack all her family and then have a nice glass of wine listening to Beethoven... frightening!

  • any superlative is invidious, but A. Lennox was quite probably the most beautiful woman of the twentieth century - the other contender was Tatjana Patitz, who was not also talented

  • @1hayes1 Im happy to agree with u re Annie, such exquiste bone structure but i wud add Isabella Rossellini to both the beautiful & talented list! I love her quirky role in the 90s movie "Death Becomes Her".

  • this is what happens to the average housewife stuck with doing the same mudane chores day after day.they're bound to go a little beserk-o at some point, and then watch out baby!

  • Love the song. Bookmarked it a while ago. Of course that doesn't work now.

Is Vevo the only commercialized, propaganda-ized means of seeing any good videos anymore? Or is there something where the video appears even smaller amongst all the marketing crap?

  • Wanted some beethoven and some gay ass Xbox commercial plays with horrible music.

  • Only Annie Lennox could mock both the glamor which modern culture puts on a pedestal, and its opposite extreme with such intelligence and humor. And still look stunning doing it.

  • @RainPoetry The Savage album is brilliant, each song was actually released with a video-hunt around if dont have n wud like a copy it is online . Shame is 1 of my fav songs on the album

  • @battleship1969 shame is my 2nd favourite eurythmics song [love is a stranger being 1st]. it was released as a single but failed to chart.the shame vd is amazing

  • I really do love to listen to Beehoven. As much as I love listening to The Eurythmics.

  • Intro-beat like "Duran Duran : Wild Boys" or what? .-)

  • 4:22 is the highlight of the Savage videos. I still have this on VHS. The first 4 videos are one video.

Genius that has not been matched yet.

  • I'm thinking Annie Lennox is someone you just don't want to piss off! This is delicious!

  • Loca...!!!

  • I remember this video well. It's more fascinating to me now than ever before.

  • I like that camera pan up the staircase with pounding beat. The other day I thought about the significance of title. Then I recalled Annie spoke of girl and boy first meeting in cafe. Perhaps upon meeting in introduction the boy said, "I love to . . ." and she said, "listen to . . .", and the woman in the nearby booth overhearing clumsy conversation added, "Beethovan!"

  • I ADORE Annie for millions of reasons—this is one hell of video-thanks!

  • one of their best songs

  • this song should ive been on american psycho sound track!

  • an incredible performer.

  • Annie Lennox's best tune and her take on "Diary of a Mad Housewife" obviously...

  • adoro este video!!!!! me encantaaa

  • Eurythmics made such amazing videos.

  • ahh memories, lovely from TURKEY

  • brilliant!

  • Ahh, how the confines of suburbia and domesticity rob one of their identity...

Somebody needs a 'Mothers Little Helper'.

    Perfection.

  • She ripped off Lady Gaga!

    (just kidding)

  • i remember watching all the music vid channels, they would always play "I need a man" right after this video to keep the vibe going, Eurythmics are it.

  • @TheBoogieTuber I saw them play live once. What a great show!

  • AAARrrggghhhhh!!! WHEN will they release the Savage vid album on DVD?!?!?!?!

    I'm holding my breath....holding it.....

    such a tease with this

  • @kzimm100 You could try looking for a The Eurythmics: Greatest Hits video. I know I saw this and several other videos on that.

  • I Love This Eurythmics 1987 Music Video, "Beethoven (I Love To Listen To)," Which Became A Top 10 Dance Hit In America.

  • I think their videography might just be the most interesting.

  • an omen for things to come in music

  • I have never really understood the song or music video. But I've always loved it, for all its creepiness.

  • People forget how groundbreaking some of the Eurythmics videos were. We never saw music videos quite like this before. And Annie took to the visual narratives well. She's a very clever actress above her exceptional vocal and songwriting abilities.

  • awsome

  • Pure genius !!

  • Brilliant!

  • It was pretty much all about Annie in the videos form this album, but hey we wouldnt have it anyother way now, would we???

  • I remember seeing the world premiere of this video many years back....

My first thought was..,"yay the Eurythmics are being weird again!!" lol

This really is a manic delight of obsessive compulsive hilarity!

  • DRAGtastic!!

  • If insanity was a music video, this would be it.

  • Wow... One of the most brilliant portrayals of insanity, every.

  • check out my stupid funny videos. You might laugh or you might say wtf. lol

  • you can't get the line "i love to listen to beethoven" out of your head after listening to this song.

  • It's like the unruly child and the drag queen were parts of her inner self, dying to come out. It also seemed like the nervous breakdown of an inhibited housewife. Genius!

  • @ac0891 That is EXACTLY what I was thinking ... and I thought- what a horrible life! I'd go crazy, too!

  • They actually released all of the videos together as a "musical film" - one song leading into the next, with Annie portraying multiple personalities. It's a great little movie and Annie Lennox proves to be a wonderful actress.

  • @marko3861 A mini-movie? Like Michael and Janet Jackson used to do (Rhythm Nation)...

I would've liked seeing it all together.

  • I remember when I was kid this song came about in the states when rap blew up this song was the death of the eurythmics in the states, but it is and always will be one of my favourite eurythmic songs. ////////////////i love you Miss Annie, now and forever!

  • (wink wink) (nudge nudge) ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,:)))

  • Downloading couple of songs onto my Ipod including this one that I have NOT seen the vid in AGES! While I was watching, is that a young Natalie Portman who is the little girl behaving MAAAADDDD but I think its not.

  • I just love Annie's personas, characters, wigs and personalities and expressive faces. Did I leave anything out? :) She would have made a great actress, I think but I am glad she didn't get the acting bug and made great music instead. She is simply amazing and humorous too.

  • I've always wondered if the titular lyric of this song is a reference to A Clockwork Orange.

  • "Beethoven (I Love to Listen To) has a driving pulse and sonics perfect for any time.

"Savage" is my favourite album, I think. Seeing these videos, designed for it, is something I'll return to and savor often. Eurythmics is/are a fantastic team, brilliant artists - this incredible montage/storywho

  • Savage was also a video album. There is a video for almost all the songs except one I think.

  • What I get from the video is that Annie is playing a simple house hife who seems stuck in here day to day activities (the cleaning, cooking and knitting). The we see the kid and "drag queen" who represent parts of the real house wife. Finally they all come together and we see annie in the sorta "diva" attire walking out and destroying what she was trapped in. This then moves on to the "I Need A Man" video where she performs as this new inner character.

  • Plus Annie can Act ...

  • My favorite Eurythmics song of all time.

  • The album was a "concept" album. All the songs were about a women going crazy, or insane. This is the first song on it. The video fits the concept. The "blonde" women is also in the "I Need A Man" video.

  • i guess i will never know the meaning of this song....it irks me!!! lol

  • ok i love this song..BUT, WHAT THE HELL IS THIS SONG ABOUT??? AND WHAT IS THIS VIDEO ABOUT??? lol

  • It isn't about anything really that I know of. LOL I don't think they had in mind for it to mean anything. The video however puts a story to the song (even if it's an "out there" one. LOL)

  • @Muffintop2k7

It's about a bored housewife wanting attention from her husband, her kids, life...whatever! She has given up everything and she is a VOID...so she SNAPS! This vid was so WAY ahead of it's time of what most unappreciated housewives now feel in life. Beethoveen was all about passion in life, Lust, sex passion. The meaning is to regain that within the self. GO CRAZY AND FIND YOURSELF. Is basically what it's saying. Let go and let loose!
