I have a friend that's a ghost. His name's Norman. He lives in my attic and reads books about dinosaurs. He died when he was walking across the street and was hit by a bus. We're good pals. I talk to him every night.
I'm amazed at the personal testimonials on here from people that ignore anything they don't like and just keep moving forward, deeper into delusion. Personal testimonials are notoriously unreliable. Memories are unreliable which is why science demands multiple, independent lines of evidence that aren't subjective. And people, please stop arguing from ignorance or personal incredulity. Please stop mystery-mongering. Please stop trying to out-skeptic the skeptics. It sounds really pathetic.
I can't express how disappointed I am to see Rocketboom do a piece on the paranormal. I thought they knew what science was but maybe they don't. So disappointing. I didn't subscribe to this channel to watch subject matter like this. It's shit. You can't start investigating ghosts before you know if there are ghosts to investigate. Should I expect a piece on the serious business of leprechaun hunting as well? Please stick with science. As Carl Sagan said, "It delivers the goods".
Since when is Rocketboom limited to science? It's doing an interesting report -- most of us are rational enough to conclude that ghosts don't exist, so this is just an interesting interview, and that's all it tries to be. The fact that they interviewed this guy doesn't suggest that Rocketboom believes in the paranormal. They just wanted to find an interesting interview and tell people about something a little crazy/silly/interesting in the world, which they succeeded at.
Your first question is irrelevant to what I was saying. Your second, third, and fourth sentences are just bold assertions that are either irrelevant or plain wrong. You are especially wrong in your assertion that most of us are rational enough to conclude that ghosts don't exist. Please check your facts before you make sloppy assertions to me and please don't address me with logical fallacies that waste my time.
It is a shame when someone uses the concept of logic to prevent the need for actual content in what one posts. You basically just said "no, wrong, wrong" over and over again with no reasoning or backing.
What I meant was perfectly clear -- "No, I don't think Rocketboom should "stick to science." A story like this is perfectly interesting." How you managed to totally miss what I spelled out and called it all "irrelevant" is a mystery.
You're trying to disparage my comments because they don't mesh with your opinion. I also still disagree that the story was interesting and I posted that opinion and my reasons. If you think that the story was interesting, fine with me, but please don't disparage me because you don't know how to think properly to get from point A to point B logically and feel entitled to correct people. You are acting as if your opinion is somehow the default correct way to think. Back off!!!
Wait a second, why are people saying it is bullshit? It is bullshit but damn they must make a lot of money off stupid people, i mean come on, a gust of wind and they phone up, then the paranormal dudes close the window and get out a skinny alien dude cut out, profit goes up!
RocketBoom wasted 5 minutes and 6 seconds of recording time on this, quite sad really, i wonder how this even got uploaded, i figured even the SD card said it was bullshit and formatted itself
(Ella's thought bubble): "are you fucking kidding me, I can't believe I'm listening to this scam artist, today I've hit an all time low on Rocket Boom"
@thelonewolf86 its like what you give to a person who 'predicts the future" or "reads your fortune" its just a "get your mind right" and "feel better and more secure" kind of thing really. Understanding it, or at least making your MIND assume you understand what is causing the strange "hallucinations" calms down people, allowing them to stop obsessing over trivialities and continue on with the life process.
@okzon It's only 4 stars because one in five people are not quite brainwashed. The guy is serious in this silly game. That's really bad.
Of course it's good that he uses a logically consistent way of seeking the truth. That is, he checks first if it's not something normal. But anticipating a paranomal phenomenon? That's bunk.
Unbiased reporting on what people actually do and think is never a bad thing.
He may be a nut or a con artist (I think he is merely a victim of his own confirmation bias, even if he probably spends a lot of time reassuring the mentally ill that their old house isnt ghost infected) but hearing about the kinds of points of view other people hold in an impartial interview is always worthwhile.
This isnt like those crappy late night docu-tainment things at least.
He isnt that crazy. He admits it cant be confirmed, he looks for non-paranormal sources of the phenomena first, and probably, as i say, spends a lot of time reassuring or offering placebos to mentally ill people.
Though, yeah, on the whole, probably ripping people off and taking advantage of ignorance, even if he doesnt think thats what he is doing.
where's slimer?Well what can you say about it?if you were to rule out there are no ghosts.that would mean you are at fault and subject to be diagnosed.only problem is this is a known fact of:
"trapped in the mind"it's never one sided. isolation,in dark unknown areas......woah that's heavy.."dark matter"
You want proof? Go to the house I grew up in. Everything from the haunted house movies happens there. You cannot write it off as an alarm clock when you actually talk to apparitions and see the walls melt. When you are chased down the halls by a ghostly wolf and cryin for mommy, you come tell me there's no proof
That which has no evidence deserves zero credence whatsoever. At least he admits there isn't proof and isn't a fraud like a lot of "paranormal investigators".
Look, I believe in ghosts, don't believe in God, honestly I don't see the connection. Besides, people can believe what they want. It has nothing to do with you if you don't believe what they do.
Once I saw one that looked kind of like pearly fog, and one that was like a shadow that was like a still image that slid across the wall. I know people are going to thumb-down this comment but I'm just saying what I saw. I know they're probably coincidences but I'm not going to call a physicist to tell me if the angle was possible or not, and I saw what I saw.
The first I saw when I was outside of the [outdoors] pool, and over the fence there was a volleyball court, the ghost was there, in plain sight, only I was the only one who saw it :S And it was white, and fog, but like pearly, kinda wierd xD The second I saw on the wall, like a still shadow that just slid across the wall (since it was a shadow it was gray) but I didn't see any from the corner of my eyes, they were all in plain view.
well, grey shadows at the edge of the eye can be cause by eye lens deflection and white (often bright) forms are often hallucinations, you don't implicitly need to be drugged to see these
Actually, standing sound waves at certain frequencies can cause the effect of seeing gray shadows at the corner of the eye. It occasionally happens that a room will have such a standing wave due to vibrations from nearby.
Sensory deprivation can be interesting too, Put on loud static from Tv or radio, turn on a RED light, put 2 half pingpong balls over your eyes and sit down and dont move for minimally 30 min's
Your brain will start to form its own patterns and information because you are no longer receiving any..
For someone looking for proof, then you should have come to the realization that nothing happens after we die. When we are dead, we are gone. We don't have a spirit that lives on.
I would say that this is a nice way to alleviate people with excessive paranoia, schizophrenia, etc, but it would only serve in purporting delusional notions of the existence of the supernatural.
Tbh.. while i don't believe in paranormal activity... i can see how these people help... someone who clearly believes their home is being haunted by ghosts will get them out... and after that they will believe they got rid of it.. and thus they've been helped... it's all in the mind but try calling a psychologist a quack :P
Like the guy said...he's never personally seen anything that can be regarded as proof. He believe there are such phenomena though...which is what it comes down to. To be honest I couldn't say with 100% certainty that there is no such things as ghosts or hauntings...I have lots of doubts but I am willing to listen if someone comes up with something tangible.
What does he mean when he says "he's glad he's started when he did, because if he had another 40 years in the business some of this stuff will be proven."?
He makes it sound like he doesn't want paranormal activity to be proven if it does exist.
He appears so rational, but I can't past the picture of someone measuring another's body voltage, as if that has any significance to anything ever. I mean other than the differential created by touching a live wire and determining whether you'll get burned...
I appreciate his honesty when he says there is no proof.
technicallyabsurd - hey if he makes a living *shrug*. besides, the same thing has been said about other people who are now in history books for discovering stuff
I really respected the guy for admitting at the end that he hasn't yet seen anything that proves it exists to him. Most people would have used this interview to lie as a way to increase their business. But it sounds like this guy really does want to find out if its true or not. While I think it probably doesnt exist, I would love for him to find real proof!
The day I believe in ghosts is the day Ella agrees to take me with her to London....lol. I've never believed in ghosts or spirits haunting us. I don't believe in aliens or UFO's and all that jazz.
Yes, but she won a trip to London. Check her Twitter comment from last night. But she can take me to Australia as well. I just figured if she won a trip to London it's usually a trip for two.....hehe.
My logic is flawless, she would never have a more fun time if she takes me with her, plus it's free. It's a win-win situation. Come on Ella!!! :)
...................I really hope she knows I'm just trying to get a good chuckle out of her...lol.
I love the ghost hunting shows (mainly The Othersiders) and I really like how he talks to them casually, because that pisses me off when they talk to them like "What is your name?" "Are you Sarah, the ghost girl?" If I was the ghost, I would be like, "No. I am John Jacob jingle heimer schmitd."
Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling! Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes! Volcanoes! The dead rising from the grave! Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!
this is what that stupid fuckin' show most haunted has done, another useless job title, paranormal investigator, relationship expert, guidence counselor, fuck this bullshit, notice you never see a plummer on tv talking about how they unclog shit. turn the fuckin' tv off man
Just to throw this out there, in my neighborhood we have very old houses (Maybe like 50s)and I was over at my friend's house, and she lives in a newer neighborhood, and sometimes when I've been walking around a lot my house makes tapping noises in catty-corners in the ceilings, and I was over at her house and we were watching paranormal state and she got freaked out because her ceiling made tapping noises XD lulz
Eh, at least this guy rules out the most common causes instead of exploit people overlooking common causes to paranormal stuff. Plus, he's honest that he's never found any concrete evidence of paranormal activity... which is weird cuz how is this guy making money?
I wasn't surprised that he admitted to never have found a real proof, because it'd be easy to disprove him. but I really was surprised that he said some of this paranormal stuff is actually plain normal. he might as well just pull superstitious people's money outta their pockets^^
I've always wondered what the difference was between "man-made EMFs" and "natural EMFs..."
I dunno, the guy wants proof about paranormal activity, and is interested in finding conclusive evidence. I totally respect what he's trying to do, but why is he using a "medium" if he wants conclusive evidence? Anyone can just say, "I feel a presence here!" and pretend to "read" the ghostly presence. Of course, I guess one could also argue that video footage can be edited as well....
The guy sure is interested in the stuff but sure doesn't seem to have all his facts straight, although this could just be him skimming over or not fully explaining stuff due to an on-the-spot interview, but he also doesn't seem too much skeptical, which isn't really a wise thing to do when you're a Paranormal Investigator.
Also I just found out about the making of the third Ghostbusters movie today, so I found this pretty funny. Hope the movie won't suck!
I was willing to hear what the guy had to say. That was until he said what he said about mediums; That just made me face palm. 95% if not all mediums are fakers and lairs.
True. I became a medium for a summer job one time.
I have a massive book by Hans Holzer, simply called GHOSTS, and most of the hauntings he investigated involved a medium. They have these detailed dialogs between them and the...spirits. A little too detailed to be believed, sometimes.
I'm a skeptic, but what I like most about ghost stories is the history involved.
High EM causes people to have halucinations? Why don't you halucinate every time you talk on your cell phone? That's some pretty strong EM.
Natural EM meter? The only way to tell if EM fields are man made or natural, is because the man made ones generally have patterns. Other then that, the effects are the same.
Alarm clocks giving strong EM? Your usual alarm clock is powered by an AA battery, giving only a few watts of power... nowhere near enough to cause strong EM.
Ella, I'm a student studying to become an engineer. And one of the things I study is quantum physics. It's a useful tool that provides us with many explanations and answers, if you take the time to understand it.
If I learned anything, is that energy in the universe is never lost, it only circulates. And humans are made of energy and matter. I'd have to say that anything is possible.
As Richard Feynmann said: "Nature's imagination is so much greater than man's, it's never going to let us relax."
Wow, good that the electricity made by humans is so different than the one made by nature.... (some people's ides... oh my)

What does he mean when he says "he's glad he's started when he did, because if he had another 40 years in the business some of this stuff will be proven."?
He makes it sound like he doesn't want paranormal activity to be proven if it does exist.
BlitzWing00 2 years ago
hmm....
It was...
but not like you think
poranormal activity was proven to be a movie :3
thegodofs 2 years ago
@BlitzWing00 I think he just worded that sentence in an awkward way. Because it also sounds like he's been doing that job for 40 years already. xD

He's only a slight quack job...
He appears so rational, but I can't past the picture of someone measuring another's body voltage, as if that has any significance to anything ever. I mean other than the differential created by touching a live wire and determining whether you'll get burned...
I appreciate his honesty when he says there is no proof.

Ellas from Australia.
illogicalcaribou 2 years ago
Yes, but she won a trip to London. Check her Twitter comment from last night. But she can take me to Australia as well. I just figured if she won a trip to London it's usually a trip for two.....hehe.
My logic is flawless, she would never have a more fun time if she takes me with her, plus it's free. It's a win-win situation. Come on Ella!!! :)
...................I really hope she knows I'm just trying to get a good chuckle out of her...lol.

Now that I think about it I wonder if she realizes I'm 'ISUcommunity' from Twitter.

Immediately followed by OM-NOM-NOM-NOM. That's Ella eating a cookie, as taught by the Cookie Monster himself!
Ella does the best interviews, I swear! :D

Eh, at least this guy rules out the most common causes instead of exploit people overlooking common causes to paranormal stuff. Plus, he's honest that he's never found any concrete evidence of paranormal activity... which is weird cuz how is this guy making money?
sarsattacks 2 years ago 3
I wasn't surprised that he admitted to never have found a real proof, because it'd be easy to disprove him. but I really was surprised that he said some of this paranormal stuff is actually plain normal. he might as well just pull superstitious people's money outta their pockets^^
KingAfter77 2 years ago
I've always wondered what the difference was between "man-made EMFs" and "natural EMFs..."
I dunno, the guy wants proof about paranormal activity, and is interested in finding conclusive evidence. I totally respect what he's trying to do, but why is he using a "medium" if he wants conclusive evidence? Anyone can just say, "I feel a presence here!" and pretend to "read" the ghostly presence. Of course, I guess one could also argue that video footage can be edited as well....
Algren334 2 years ago 3
The guy sure is interested in the stuff but sure doesn't seem to have all his facts straight, although this could just be him skimming over or not fully explaining stuff due to an on-the-spot interview, but he also doesn't seem too much skeptical, which isn't really a wise thing to do when you're a Paranormal Investigator.
Also I just found out about the making of the third Ghostbusters movie today, so I found this pretty funny. Hope the movie won't suck!

That incredibly stupid sentence made me LOL.
Cutlesnap 2 years ago 4
I was willing to hear what the guy had to say. That was until he said what he said about mediums; That just made me face palm. 95% if not all mediums are fakers and lairs.
StubzTurner 2 years ago
I'll uh...stop talking now.
johnnytastetest 2 years ago
High EM causes people to have halucinations? Why don't you halucinate every time you talk on your cell phone? That's some pretty strong EM.
Natural EM meter? The only way to tell if EM fields are man made or natural, is because the man made ones generally have patterns. Other then that, the effects are the same.
Alarm clocks giving strong EM? Your usual alarm clock is powered by an AA battery, giving only a few watts of power... nowhere near enough to cause strong EM.

Important note: Paranormal NYC conducts all of its investigations free of charge. So ghost hunting isn't quite the lucrative career path it seems!
