This is in resonse to a rude comment posted ........He had asked,"Do you lose money by taking your time tarping?"........
It always goes through your head as a trucker........But safety is always job 1.. Genrally it takes 2 hours to tie and tarp a full load of lumber with 8' drops.
If taking a few hours to secure a load safely jeopardizes a truckers financials......Then obviously the trucker/carrier did not bid the load right.
i dont hate trucking or my fellow brothers/sisters out here. im proud im a trucker but we let a small group of individuals ruin our industry. special interest groups, govt and anti truck groups. i will miss you all very much. love u all
Try hauling logs in the mountains in canada or super B chip trailers on a 11% grade in the middle of a snow storm and than tell me that flat deck work is tough
I've flatbedded since '98. Hauled OD heavy equip on RGNs, its easy work if ur not crybaby. I'm 33 now and so fuckin happy I'm leaving this industry. Fuck u FMCSA,DOT, FHWA AND RAY LaHood. I swear, Ive loaded there but it was snowing. Way back in the middle of nowere, u pass a lumber co. when you turn off to get to this one at the end of the road, that ladder leans up right behind his trailer. Dang it really is a small world!
Nice job Triple T. Would recommend you always wear some kind of glasses when pulling bungees. Had one break and almost cost me an eye some yrs ago. And still cost a shitload of cash. lol Keep up good work driver.
Thank you truckers for what you all do. You keep America running. My husband used to be a trucker. He is thinking about going back, but as a husband & wife team. ANy advice?
Thank ya stogie, only difference in this type flatbed pay is $20 for pulling the tarp off and putting it up, the tie down stuff is a donation to the cause
haha you are the epitome of what i picture a trucker... The talk , the look, everything. You seem like a hard mother fucker, and I mean that in a good respectable manner. Truck on brother.
im sorry but i have done all types of trucking with our friends and family (im only 20) and i think flatbedding is one of the easiest jobs in trucking in my opinion, ive grown up around trucks all my life, and hauling lumber is one of the easier jobs ive seen lol sorry dude
Im sorry but that was the ugliest tarp job ive ever seen. Ive never seen a tarp with elastic rather then ropes which i can see didnt pull down very well. Everyday at work i un-tarp and tarp trailers all day long and it isnt that hard. If you actually care you can make a really nice and respectful looking load.
@lewis69r like i said in another post im only 20, but ive grown up around trucks all my life and im glad im not the only one who noticed the shitty tarp job, but of course my dad is a stickler when it comes to makin his tarps straps, and over all load look good so i thought it was just me who noticed it lol
@ shithustler420 your a fuckin idiot n you have no clue what it takes to maneuver a truck much less pull flatbed! Those tarps weigh in at about 100-120 lbs a piece. Then you need two of them to cover most loads. This is after you've already fought 12 straps in the wind or another 500 lbs worth of chains n binders( if you even know what a binder is ) then fight with slippery ass tarps in the rain n snow n ice or the extreme heat in Laredo Tx. O yea don't forget you gotta put that shit back up w
Least it wasnt too windy Eh?, i had to haul flat driving for boyd. When wind caught you, you went flying if you didnt have enough sense to let go ⌡8<(

I always liked it. streches yuor legs out, works you out a bit. when i was running flatbed i felt better at the end of the day. Most of my FB was treated lumber out of port Huron Canada, headed to Miami. froze loading up, sunburnt while breaking down my straps.
Flatbed drivers have the hardest job, I tried it and I only made it 2 weeks. Try strapping down the tarpping that load with the wind blowing and its 32 degress outside. Now that sucks.
Flatbed trucking is NOT the hardest job in trucking. I've done it. I would never do it, it it were hard. I'm a lazy bastard. The hardest job in trucking is dispatching a bunch of cry-babies.
Me and my son's like the vid's I got my DaD that damn clock for his birthday 2yrs ago and every time I come on a haul he make's it a point to bring that sum bitch thank's for being another insperastion for me to truck keep on keep'n on
Oh man you are annoying, Huh? Gotta tarp that load ,Huh? Tough job, Huh? You notice you say Huh? after every sentence, Huh? It isn't that hard of a job. When it's hot it is no fun, but there are many tough jobs in trucking. HUH?
Been thinking of getting a Peterbuilt, 359, 500 HP. with a 2009 REITNOUER 48 FT Flatbed .16 QUIK DRAW TARPAULIN SYSTEM It's a bank repo, the bank wants &40,000 for both. Less than 265,000 on ther truck. A good buy, ya. But trucking is a big damn hassle sometimes. ( All the time?). I recon I'll think hard about this one.
That rod that you put the tarp over @ around 11:55, was that a strap tightener bar, or one of the spacers under the lumber? Sorry for the rookie question buddy, but inquiring minds need to know. Hehe. Thanks man. You're videos are much appreciated!
I did flatbed for years, and tarping is nothing! Now I'm delivering to gas stations, 700 cubes a day, unload it on a ramp with a dolly. Try THAT for hard. I miss my skateboard!
I didn't know John Goodman gave up hollywood to become a trucker....Nice work dude, took me back to the old days of roping and sheeting with dolly knots spitting ice cold black water in your face, hmm think i'll stay a pussy on containers and wrestle with them twist locks ( boy its hard work, lol) enjoyed the vid
I used to pick up there all the time I should have filmed the load I tarped in the Ice storm of 08 right there where he is but it was pitch black and icing gotta love flatbedding, I am running US mail now I think I'll stick with it after 16 years of that, I earned it.
Tarping is easy. Unless the wind is blowing or it's raining or snowing like shit. Where is your rack? And do you use one pc tarp? Man that's too heavy. good video.
Good Job man, I pull a step deck myself. I always end up with some goofy ass shit they want tarped, it never fails. I try to avoid tarping but sometimes there isn't alot of choices. Yea, it aint real fun at 10 below or a 100 above but O'well. Try having one of those bungee cord snapping and hitting you in the face or a binder exploding and chucking a cheater pipe in your face. LOL
My step dad pulls a drop/step deck trailer for Watkins Shepard Trucking out of Montana. I am with him right now because I am on Spring Break and he has Beacon Lights on the sides of his sleeper because he pulls a lot of wide dimension loads and right now we have a combine harvester on, and we are using wide load signs, flags and the beacon lights, the whole works. When I get my license it's going to be flatbed all the way for me. Be safe driver.
Flatbetting is the shit... Because the bed is flat.. and not all bumpy and stumpy and odd sized and shit.
If you can get a job in the trucking industry, tell your recruiter that you don't want to do NOTHING but Flatbedding... Let them know you're the best, up front
It's like the MARINES.... Only the Few, The Proud, The FlatBedders..
Anybody can join the army. Not everybody can become a marine
Anybody can drive a truck. Not everybody can bea FlatBeder truck driver
@TheLiptonGroup Only in your own mind, because you couldn't handle pulling 13 or even 19 axles, because you have the simple mind like a marine. Flatbed is for the ones that only wish they could be HEAVY HAULERS, just like the marines only wished they could be ARMY RANGER OR SPECIAL FORCES. Been there done that. South East Asia.
yes i to will step in to school for my cdl and be out there, i have seen so many nice people online that drive and my father drove all his life and i want to follow in his foot steps....see ya all soon.
lol well i guess thats good. im fixing to go to truck driving school, for a company, atleast i can get my foot in the door, cause i sure the hell dont have the cash to pay for that school. but i think i would like to run flat bed in the future.
I've always hated tarping loads, but I also learned to NEVER let anyone else do it for you. I had a load of dimensional lumber that lowes tarped for me before I picked up the trailer and about 15 minutes into my run I had to pull over and re-tarp the entire trailer cuz they had so much slack in it. I should have known better to check it myself but I was runnin late and ended up later thanks to that. Great vid TTT
do not work for feed the children transportation aka ftc transportation. you will get no miles and sit for days. word has it that they are running low on money and will soon not be able to pay what little drivers they have left.
get them kids that loaded ur truck to canvass ur load old timer...u got enough to deal with that long haull...drive safe..god be with yah,....one day i will step in your shoes....looking forrward to it...
i worked for Alan Farmer in Al. 58 ft drop deck 10 ft table 48 ft bed with clam shell drive on ramps with a 5 ft metal float rear table. on the end where the ramps are and also had ramps from deck to top of table. So that I can drive on haul & drive off 4 military Hummvies from base to base or the field and NEVER need aloading ramp or dock! Average 83 total length in the US
that's stupid easy...been there done that...tiny loads..little bit of work too tie down but then what..try trowing 4 steel wrappers 3-4 times a day over an 18feet tall by 14feet wide load ..and trow chains on all 3 drives...yes 3 not 2 ... and pull 190000lbs up 30%+ grades...truste me flabeding....it aint tough at all....
Bless your heart Haulfomoney, only one thang, we aint got nary a video from ya to compare it to, twood be interesting to see what ya do up thare... Come on
i was just being coky..hope you din't take offence to that comment..dont have any vid but i got pictures of the trucks..ill try to scan them and make some kind of a slide show...just give a couple of days..
Next time position your straps, then tarp and strap. The straps keep the tarp on for you.I pull a lowboy...or used to...before i lost my job......lol..Drive the machine on...chain...drive off.....no tarps.
If I ever go back OTR, it'll be pulling flats. Any ass clown can drive a dry van (for reference, see SWIFT or Knight Transportation). It takes skill to do flats. That's the only part of the job I miss. Besides, it kept a fat boy like me in shape... :)
As always my hat is off to you buddy. I can't believe I haven't seen this video before. Who is a good flatbed company to learn from? Do you think Mav or TMC could teach a rookie to do it right? Be safe man, always enjoy your great videos.
I gotta admit...this job does really really suck. I drove a 48' flat bed for a company out of pittsburgh hauling steel coils. It didn't pay shit. 25% of the load which is pennies when your running just in the northeast and having to deal with constant breakdowns. I was only grossing between $300-$655 a week GROSS! I quit after 2 months. Hats off to you guys that are still out there and underpaid.
Oh wow, I kinda thought flat beds were easier then driving 53' vans, I was wrong. I figured a van you cant see like you can with a flat bed, but everything that is involved with flat bads, wow. My hat off to you guys. Great job and drive safe..
Best thing to do there bud is checkout ripoffreport website search for that on google and type in the company you want to check up on. Then from there you can read and decide, but always remember someone elses experience can be better or worst then what you might experience.
I'll say flatbed work does suck and it is hard work, but nothing compared to being a Bedbugger! I'd run flat bed and tarp loads all day over doing Household Goods Moving ever again! LoL, wanna talk about work....thats serious underpaid work there and lots of unpaid time. Could pack and load a 14,000lbs home, and then turn around and be expected to drive 700 miles and be there the next morning for another pickup or drop off. That shit was rediculous! Tip my hat to those guys all day!
really? have you ever worked flatbed? I can tell you I worked flatbed for a year & a half. it's pretty rough, I've been thrown from the trailer, cut up on steel, nealy blown off while tarping about a hundred times, & nearly wrecked my back heaving 120 lb. tarps up over my head. ran oversized loads, folded frozen tarps, folded tarp in torrential downpours, patched tarps, & broke more tarp straps then I want to think about. probably would still be at it if the company hadn't went bankrupt.
Hey Hey Hey the crazy TruckerTwoTimes what`s up man nice video . I have a new cam. Picture follow in the next 2 days good luck see you on youTube . greetings from Germany your friend Pappie24 :-))
one time the forklift dropped a bundle of steel on the flatbed, launched me 15 feet into the air, would have landed on my head if I hadn't grabbed the top of the chain link fence. my shoulder was sore for a week. LOL!
good vid, been there myself, somedays the best job on the planet .....other days there is no job that can compare to a bad day in trucking, Northerndipper i never weighed a tarp but the heavy vinyl ones at a guess would be 100 pounds +.
Haven't watched all his vids to see how many jobs he goes thru, But can't help but wonder if taking time to video all this stuff could be the reason? HUH
I hate lumber loads, they pay cheap, they load your truck as much as they can, then most of the time it's tarped, and its so freakin high. Our company do not take lumber load, they would rather let us dead head.
it didnt look like you was gon git it tight for a couple shakes back round your donkee but you pulled it together real nice at the end there driver. Fourty-2
F**k man, mounting and dismounting that looks like a real pain... I bet the only good part with flatbeds comes once you sit on your truck and stop sweating.
Have you ever herd of the song i have always been crazy by waylon jenning it fits you good. lol i like all of your vidoes make some new ones sometime.
Also clean that tractor inside you slob

Been thinking of getting a Peterbuilt, 359, 500 HP. with a 2009 REITNOUER 48 FT Flatbed .16 QUIK DRAW TARPAULIN SYSTEM It's a bank repo, the bank wants &40,000 for both. Less than 265,000 on ther truck. A good buy, ya. But trucking is a big damn hassle sometimes. ( All the time?). I recon I'll think hard about this one.
akasuitor 1 year ago
@akasuitor the only hassle I have encountered is over population or heavy traffic driven by the population

I didn't know John Goodman gave up hollywood to become a trucker....Nice work dude, took me back to the old days of roping and sheeting with dolly knots spitting ice cold black water in your face, hmm think i'll stay a pussy on containers and wrestle with them twist locks ( boy its hard work, lol) enjoyed the vid
riley01278 2 years ago
I used to pick up there all the time I should have filmed the load I tarped in the Ice storm of 08 right there where he is but it was pitch black and icing gotta love flatbedding, I am running US mail now I think I'll stick with it after 16 years of that, I earned it.
Domal88 2 years ago
Tarping is easy. Unless the wind is blowing or it's raining or snowing like shit. Where is your rack? And do you use one pc tarp? Man that's too heavy. good video.
stevesprinceofsteaks 2 years ago

Flatbedding is one of the best jobs i have ever had. drove for 3 companies. i love it.
rchavez290 2 years ago
Flatbetting is the shit... Because the bed is flat.. and not all bumpy and stumpy and odd sized and shit.
If you can get a job in the trucking industry, tell your recruiter that you don't want to do NOTHING but Flatbedding... Let them know you're the best, up front
It's like the MARINES.... Only the Few, The Proud, The FlatBedders..
Anybody can join the army. Not everybody can become a marine
Anybody can drive a truck. Not everybody can bea FlatBeder truck driver
TheLiptonGroup 2 years ago
@TheLiptonGroup Only in your own mind, because you couldn't handle pulling 13 or even 19 axles, because you have the simple mind like a marine. Flatbed is for the ones that only wish they could be HEAVY HAULERS, just like the marines only wished they could be ARMY RANGER OR SPECIAL FORCES. Been there done that. South East Asia.

some get about 20 dollars to do all that straping and tarping work, so I guess you could call it a little more lol
truckertwotimes 2 years ago
lol well i guess thats good. im fixing to go to truck driving school, for a company, atleast i can get my foot in the door, cause i sure the hell dont have the cash to pay for that school. but i think i would like to run flat bed in the future.
13svincent 2 years ago
I've always hated tarping loads, but I also learned to NEVER let anyone else do it for you. I had a load of dimensional lumber that lowes tarped for me before I picked up the trailer and about 15 minutes into my run I had to pull over and re-tarp the entire trailer cuz they had so much slack in it. I should have known better to check it myself but I was runnin late and ended up later thanks to that. Great vid TTT

do not work for feed the children transportation aka ftc transportation. you will get no miles and sit for days. word has it that they are running low on money and will soon not be able to pay what little drivers they have left.

If I ever go back OTR, it'll be pulling flats. Any ass clown can drive a dry van (for reference, see SWIFT or Knight Transportation). It takes skill to do flats. That's the only part of the job I miss. Besides, it kept a fat boy like me in shape... :)

NoiseMostBeautiful 2 years ago
I gotta admit...this job does really really suck. I drove a 48' flat bed for a company out of pittsburgh hauling steel coils. It didn't pay shit. 25% of the load which is pennies when your running just in the northeast and having to deal with constant breakdowns. I was only grossing between $300-$655 a week GROSS! I quit after 2 months. Hats off to you guys that are still out there and underpaid.
carribeankiddd 2 years ago

Tip my hat to those guys all day!

flat bed trucking is not the hardest
kansascitychiefsfan1 2 years ago
really? have you ever worked flatbed? I can tell you I worked flatbed for a year & a half. it's pretty rough, I've been thrown from the trailer, cut up on steel, nealy blown off while tarping about a hundred times, & nearly wrecked my back heaving 120 lb. tarps up over my head. ran oversized loads, folded frozen tarps, folded tarp in torrential downpours, patched tarps, & broke more tarp straps then I want to think about. probably would still be at it if the company hadn't went bankrupt.
kdraper2007 2 years ago
my brother posted tht comment. he really has no idea wut the hell he's talking about.

I hate lumber loads, they pay cheap, they load your truck as much as they can, then most of the time it's tarped, and its so freakin high. Our company do not take lumber load, they would rather let us dead head.
