Just goes to prove there is only one true route to a road worn guitar. There is no mythology here, just a well used tool and the master craftsmen who holds it
i saw a documentary about a year ago in which wilko said he wouldn't part with the guitar not even for £20,000.But then why would he with all the history and memories wrapped up in it.To him it's not just an instrument it's his whole life.I would also bet that there is collectors out there who recognise the importance of such instruments who would pay more than the £20,000 stated.
@kona6495 It is only a domestic appliance, like a washing machine or something. It will have a 6- digit serial number. the art is in the performance, NOT in a mass produced american consumer item.
@incongra how can you say a guitar is like a washing machine.... a musical instrument is not an appliance. obviously you just dont get the whole idea. a guitar of that age has alot of memories wrapped in it. so hes not about to go and let go of it is he.
@kona6495 You're right. Of course you're right. And having listened to the Feelgoods for a very long time, I fully realise the significance of this particular instrument. All I'm saying is, let's not make the paintbrush as important as the artist.
@incongra "... just like a washing machine..". incongra, you are sooo right. This is plainly a disposable appliance like any of the white goods in the kitchen. This guitar is clearly worn out. Why not throw it out and buy a new one? Seriously, Argos seem to sell guitars like this for less than £200. Why pay £849 as you suggest. Crazy?
The Best tone !!!
Amazing guitarist, saw him 3 or 4 + times in London, Cambridge and somewhere else.... Feelgood were never the same after he left! Great technique and one of the British guitar greats, along with Adrian Borland and Zal Cleminson and a few others.
The Strummer Tele is a great guitar and could easily be modified to look like Wilko's. The sound and set up would be very similar. The originals are probably of a similar vintage. Joe's famous IAO Tele was a standard sunburst '66 sprayed black with a rosewood fingerboard.
if i was wilko i wouldn't let anyone touch it - such an iconic guitar - why don't fender make a signature model, it would ne much better then the joe strummer one
amazing video proper guitar porn, what a legend builder and guitarist..... just wish was in hd :p

On the subject of artists and paintbrushes.
Dr feelgood made a career out of mythologising everything they came into contact with; Canvey Island, oil refineries, boozers, bastard suits etc.
Wilko's tele is just another part of the story.
I'd have been very disapointed if he'd been playing some sparkly new acrylic finish guitar when I saw him live.
Music is also a highly visual as well as aural experience.
This why someone like Hendrix wiped the floor leaving Eric Clapton a very sad man,

@sovereignofnebadon Agreed, there are a lot of people worshipping the paintbrush instead of the artist around here.
