Everytime I watch this video, I have a nostallgic feeling... I flew IL-86 onboard many times & everytime I enjoy it! During one flight, when I was a little boy I´ve been in cocpit of "eightysix, seat on captains legs. It was the late 80s when it was possible to do... IL-86 is my love& favourite all time I remember.
Did you know that latest-generation Russian engines are about 8% more efficient than Western analogs? I love Russian technology. If in doubt, remember: stealth technology's theoretical underpinnings were developed by a Russian scientist who now teaches at the University of California. Technology goes where money is, but Russian brains are NOT worse than Western brains.
I love the IL86!! Its an awesome looking aircraft. Like the early A340s, its punished with underpowered engines. Take off those Kuznetsov NK-86 engines and replace'em wit somethin more power and the IL-86 will rotate and climb out faster than this. thats kinda dangerous. Imagine a flame out on take off or climb out with a full load.
I do think theat the 86 is the weakest of ilyshin's models, it was let down by its low bypass turbojet powerplant. The IL96 shows how good the basic 86 design is when coupled with reasonable powerplants for an aircraft of its class
96 is also shorter (in most configs) and less weight ...doubling it with more powerfull engines , it's looks like a winner.. but they are separated by 20 yrs or so as well :)
The Il-86 was before A340-300 for first of all and 2nd your just mad that you want Russia to be dumb monkeys but we're not were one of worlds smartest so get use to it.

Hey you guys see the way Aeroflot has their IL-96 painted with the blue underneath its belly and that silver on top? That's one of the nicest looking planes to take to the skies.
Its not a poor climb rate. Russian pilot are so different from american pilots. They were trained to take off from a slow rate and then get to the cruising alitude. Even in Cuba, they are taught the same way as the russians. Its not the problem of the plane, its the way russian piolts fly.
I have to agree with you. A few years ago I flew aboard a CSA (Czeck Republic) TU-154 (a Russian built aircraft). The takeff was very steep and powerful....quite similar to any given takeoff on a Boeing 737 or 757.
Actually, Borja, the captain I flew with two days ago, was origninally trained in Soviet Union and flew Tu134 and later Tu154. I salute this person for who he is, as a kind person and a professional. I wish we had more ex-Aeroflot captains. He said EXACTLY the same phrase You just said! A co-incidence?
Worse safety? Are you fucking kidding me? MANY more people have died on the Boeing 747 than in an Il-86 or Il-96. Sure, they may not be as comfortable, but the Il-96 has a much better safety record than the 747, faster speed, about the same range, and about %70 of the price.
It's kind of a shame that Americans are so narrow minded to understand that Communism is done with, and that it's ok to buy Russia's planes. Cause quite honestly, those are some damn good aircraft, if you ask me.
gee, i didnt say ur video was bad. the truth is that AT LEAST during the soviet days Aeroflot aircraft (IL-62, for example) were uncomfortable, and they had terrible safety standards. and i can assure you i have a life. if ur ever in Australia ask for the head of Virgin Blue flight attendant recruitment. that would be me
terrible safety standards? You kidding... can any boeing or airbus compare with say il-86 by safety? it's 20+yaers in service and no any 1 passenger died in il-86 incident... USSR safety in airplanes was very much higher than those non-russian... I reccomend You to find out any information about things you discuss BEFORE you try to joke that things...
I didn't had to fly IL-62, idiot... to old plane even though i will be 42 october, and flyed almost whole life (at least once per year)... I reccomend You to try DC-3 comfort, if You like history...
i didn't mean that THIS is a -62, im just using it as an example of crap russian planes. remember ur fantastic TU-144? oh didnt that do well. and are you still flying low-bypass engine IL-72's? probably single handedly responsible for global warming.
i don't know any il-72s even tu 144 had less failures than concord... no any boeing or airbus can achieve 20+ years in service without passenger losses... when u wanna see any crap - welcome to the mirror... end of discussian... your next comment will be last step to block such abusive user... go get a girl (or a boy - i have no idea about oz ppl)... and try to talk more friendly to ppl u don't know...
Hey man, stop leaving idiotic messages. Russian Planes are very good and durable, and efficient as well; back-off, you can go and fly your Boings with its american design. GO AWAY
I also had fly some kind of 3 engine boeing (can't remeber number - 727 maybe, 3 tail engines) back in 1990... and i can say - i was surprised that it had same level comfort that tu-154 il-86 had (it's good to compare same generation planes)... :D
i had same not enough room for my legs problem , same crappy inflight food... the only thingy i loved that it was allowed to smoke in it (Pan American)... and in that difference was ended...just maybe russian stewardesses was also much better for my taste... at least some of them...

I was gonna say the same, it looks like it wasn't gonna make 1,500 ft/min. Not to mention the takeoff roll was an eternity.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
I almost dislike Russia for their planes, this is just a complete copy of an
A340-300, they even copied Concorde, VC-10, and alot of other planes.

еThe only thing i'd reccomend You - try think and research before making any public opinions...
for example - il-86 was made when iirr airbus wasn't existed as a company.. lol..

This Aircraft is from the 1970s and the a340 is from 1991.
The Il-62 was not a copy of the VC-10

I'll prefer to fly safe plane over goodclimb rate one that is unsafe

Where were you heading too? With the rate, I agree, but seems like this bird was real heavy with the fuel. xD

Communism is back, and its creator is now being revealed, the illuminati, the communism of future is the New World Order.
Communism, facism, extremism, nazism, maoism, all of those bad influences were created by the illuminati, the highest top elite from England and USA.
The Bible makes everything clear on Apocalypse.
