  • wow

  • Dr.J looks like denzel washington

  • @blackandyellow178 yup we he WAS IN HE GOT GAME.

  • 2:56

defenders first thought " i can take him "

second thought " OH HELL NO"

  • Nothing but class from the dr.

  • I may be wrong, but that has to be traveling at 2:53.

  • @pipesmoker67 Nope, it just seems that way because you didn't notice how early he lifted off from the ground. The doctor always took a step and a half (long stride followed by a short one) before lifting into the air.

  • no dr j was 6,7 mj was 6,6

  • hey, i just noticed my jumpshot form is like dr. j's. ugly lol. maybe ill b the next dr j!!!

  • Damn even as a kid he had the moves. Look at 0:48

  • It looks like that white player at 3:06 wants a high five from Dr J after his slam lol

  • A few random thoughts -- we will likely never see video of many other great moves, since he played in a league that didn't get much TV coverage. I shudder to think about what we have missed. ... He and Jordan are different animalsl; MJ was win at all cost, Erving was a gentleman who enjoyed displaying creativity and grace....Dr. J represented class and professionalism, and I wish current players would emulate more than his dunks.

  • @temptsfan2 Well said, I wish current players would emulate his integrity..the league would be gaining viewers instead of losing them

  • man, he is great and their pants r short!

  • Like this if dr j is better than mj

  • 2:25 poster 6'8" Lonnie Shelton head at the rim. We're talking 35 years ago folks.

  • Nice video. Music a little sappy for a basketball vid. great job tho

  • @sgardner33 that was a video by the nba. called nba superstars. the guy who uploaded it didn't pick that song.

  • @bphatboyjohn123 You are right. I saw this video clip about 20 years ago on TV one evening. Respect to Dr J

  • Amazing video, my father used to live in the States and ever since he came back to England he never stopped talking about Dr J, wait I have to say it again AMAZING VIDEO!!!!!!!!

  • my favorite player hands down

  • he could jump high :O

  • The Doctor, nothing more need be said!

  • dr.j is so great he is one of the top 12 nba players ever

  • @tooreal84

    top 10

  • @MrTronvas erving was top 12

  • Uno de los tantos grandes jugadores olvidados por la mayoría de los aficionados al no haber tenido en su época el marketing que si tuvieron otros.

  • dang, 0:29 was sick. bet the other kid was stunned

  • hes got them mickey mouse hands

  • had mad hops, AND could work with his hands..... amazing.

  • 2:55 houston we have lift off lol

  • What is the name of the song?

  • OMG!! 0:47.

  • God Bless this GENIUS!!!

  • Dr. J is the best basketball player that ever lived.

  • @woody558 He is super and awesome but:

    4. Dr. J

    3. Larry Bird

    2. Magic Johnson

    1. Michael JORDAN

  • What is the name of this song...?

  • "Greatest Love of All" is an inspirational song written by Michael Masser and Linda Creed, originally recorded by George Benson for the 1977 Muhammad Ali film The Greatest. The original record was a minor hit for Benson. The song was the fourth and final single released from Whitney Houston's self-titled 13x platinum (U.S.) first studio album, Whitney Houston, released in April 1986, and reaching #1 on the U.S. Hot 100 chart.

  • Dr. J dominated physically more than Jordan did. Erving was the same height and build as Michael but he dominated in the paint like he was a seven footer.

  • that was very good

  • fuckin gay ass music!!

  • Julius "Dr. J'' will always be remebered as the greatest basketball player of all time

  • One of the greatest, but not THE greatest.;)

  • 3:29 To dunk it?...No, I'll just put that in net. Lol! :D

  • Doc's finger rolls that's what's up,It's all about the finger roll.

  • its yinka dare mix

  • so nice

  • 2:25 is one of the most amazing bball photos ever. Guarding Julius was #8, Lonnie Shelton. He was 6'8 or 6'9. Erving's feet were at about Shelton's waist, and his head at about rim level. Check it out.

  • Jordan was the next Dr. J.

  • @reno93535 while they share a few traits (mid air control, big hands, insane leaping ability) Jordan was a far more complete player. He was Dr. J with a jumpshot, a midrange/post game and defense. That's a serious upgrade. Having said that, Dr J was groundbreaking in ways that Jordan was not. He did thinks no one before ever tried or imagined before.

  • @omnivorous65 Agreed. But it was a different era. 50 years from now players will be stronger, faster, etc. You can't really compare eras. During his time there was nobody like Erving. During Jordan's time there was nobody like him. Kobe is a better outside shooter then either. That doesn't mean he's better. But over time players improve overall. They evolve. NBA players are more athletic today then during Erving's or Jordan's time. But teams back then played better overall team ball imo.

  • @reno93535 correct

  • imagne and slam dunk contest between MJ & DR.J

  • who has a alltime top 3 DOCTOR J favorite SHOT,DUNK and or MOVE.....ABA or NBA

  • I still got this on tape from half time of his last all star game. I watched this thing over and over and over. Errrrving! ha, love that part. Thanks for posting. It brings back lots of memories.

  • Quite simply the best - grace and class at its finest. Dr. J exemplified what basketball should be about and set the example for generations to come.

  • my god what a genius just give the man a ball, gear and a pare of converce and belive me he whount dissapoint you. he simpely rewrote the law of gravity with his famous "baseline move" and magnificant air time hey trully is and always will be with michael jordan the best of all time. between the two you just cant find the greatest so they both are NO 1 !!!!!!!

  • that guy looks just like julius erving

  • he is julius erving Dr. j is his nickname

  • youre both wrong, its bob cousy.

  • WRONG.... Elgin Baylor invented flight school and Vince Carter perfected it.

  • Dumb

  • Vince Carter? Please! When Dr. J played for my Nets he showed up every night with his game. I couldn't care less if the Nets traded Vince. Get us somebody we can count on every night.

  • Born and raised in Philly the only time I cried for an athlete retiring was when Doc played his last game against the Bucks in the Playoffs.

  • I did too skeet ... he is my all time favorite. I named my first son after him and michael jordan.

  • I`m from Boston and i watch alot of Celtic Phillie games.I loved bird but this guy was a class act.Where did they all go.

  • Dr. J invented flight school, mike perfected it.

  • dr.j invented it to his perfection as minchael did to his own perfection i hope you mea cause dr.j did it better then any player with alot of carisma and grace there will never be another dr.j :O)

  • True. But don't forget Connie Hawkins.

  • he is awsome. also he has amazing moves.

  • My first exposure to Dr. J was as a young kid in Indiana watching Dr. J in the ABA. He was the smoothest, most graceful Artist in Basketball history. 3 to 4 times per game he would make a move that I had never seen before. He would fly like a Eagle soaring over a canyon. In Indiana, Basketball was king, but we never saw anything like Dr. J before. He was simply amazing!

  • Wow! I was never able to see Dr. J during his ABA years. I heard that he was absolutely phenomenal and kept that league alive. I did see Dr. J during the 70s with the 76ers, and even at an older age, he had the most incredible moves that NO ONE could replicate! Even after his prime, I saw Dr. J dunk on just about every NBA center around! Kareem, Walton, Gilmore, Eaton! He is the greatest!

  • Hey gopsu1992,

I wish everyone could of seen the Doctor in the ABA. He was surreal with his imagination. 30 years later I will lay down to go to sleep and the DR J highlight reel flows through my memory. It was that awe inspiring. His imagination on the court was genius. He would say back then "Dare to be Great". It was unlike anything I have ever seen on a basketball court. I read his Streetball at THE RUCKER was even better. He had people hanging from lamp-posts to watch him play.

  • Hey Mike,

I have seen a pic of Doc at the Rucker! Not only are people hanging from lamp-posts, they are standing on the rooftops of buildings watching him play!!

  • greeeeat video

  • ya gotta remember this video was made by the nba for Docwhen he was close to retiring - '86 or '87 and Whitney was flying high at the time. So this was a sendoff for Doctor J.

  • the finger-roll baby

  • DR.J is the man Michael watched him when he was a kid watchin nba and aba

  • da video is hot da fucking music killed it

The video is Good, but the music is Awful

  • good video. TERRIBLE music.

  • and Dr.J shook the whole damn team, with moves that came right out of a dream...

  • 2:52-3:01 is one of the best dunks ever. It makes any highlight reel worth watching.

  • just like Dr. J was before Jordan, Elgin Baylor was before Dr. J...he could float, fly, finger roll anyway you needed it

  • what ever queer made this love tribute, is a loser to the 4th exponential of the tenth quadrupal. now you need to search "wauchula" and watch the intergender match. its awesome

  • No way he was 6'10 ... he was the same height as MJ !!!

  • MJ is 6'6 homie

  • Dr. J was 6-7

  • ahahaaha mj wernt 6'10

  • a superb ball player and a gentleman

  • My all time favourite ball player. I remember as a teen watching him perform his magic on the court. Dr J. you were the best!!!!

  • When MJ started doin his thing they compared him to DR J, The greatest EVER.

  • Simply the most graceful player to have ever played the game. Not just a stylish dunker.

  • that was before MJ...

  • he floats!

  • although i luv MJ above everyone makes me feel sad i wasnt born in the 70's to see the Doc play.. a great athlete and humble too i like that

  • There are some sweet finger rolls around 3:30, wow.
