  • What is the name of the song in this trailer?

  • I'm not sure "send a bullet" is the best translation for "manda bala", it's more like "let it rip".

  • Brazil... the country of the future and always will be... as the old saying goes.

Bulletproof cars, kidnappings, endemic corruption and a culture that celebrates gangsterism. No thanks.... why won't they show this in Brazil if it's so outrageous?

  • This film is a work of art..and its strangely peaceful and relaxing for a film about so much violence

    Jason is a demented

  • This has got to be THE worst piece of film, Kohn should be ashamed of calling this a documentary? Give me some cash and I swear I can make THE VERY SAME film about any country on this fucking PLANET leave my country alone you lying swine!!!

  • This has got to be THE worst piece of film, Kohn should be ashamed of calling this a documentary but then again DAMN FREEDOM OF SPEECH right? Give me some cash and I swear I can make THE VERY SAME film about any country on this fucking PLANET leave my country alone you lying swine!!!

  • Democracy of hypocrites!

  • The Jader has not yet been arrested. #@&*!

  • Does anyone have the info for the music on this? The soundtrack is fantastic!

  • @vlazzlo I know some...

"Quem Cochicha o Rabo Espicha" - Jorge Ben Jor

"Chove Chuva" - Jorge Ben Jor

    "Salvador" - Egberto Gismonti (instrumental)

"Baby" - Gal Costa & Caetano Veloso

"Canto de ossanha" - Baden Powel& Vinicius de Moraes

  • Great movie.

  • the cinematography was amazing as well as the story. It's very big for a documentary. HIghly recommended.

  • @juleswinns . One of the most mesmerizing documentaries ever! The soundtrack is extraordinary.

Each person is almost an epic character in their own right; the Lead detective, the "Frog Farmer", the Kidnap Victim, The Kidnapper, the Young Business Man, and even the Translator. And how-dare-I forget BRAZIL!

  • Let's not! It's not what this doc is about... If we are being arbitrary than let's look at how beluga whales reproduce in the Pacific as opposed to how the mate in the Atlantic. Duh!

  • people who complain about this docu are out of touch and numbed from the reality and the hunger down the street. brazil got slums like no other country in the planet.

  • This is true. I find it amazing some Brazilians are angry with the director for making this. If I were a Brazilian I would be happy! And why not! A film is being made highlighting some serious problems, the increased awareness of this can only benefit Brazil.

  • Hey Comrade . If you're so shamed to be half - American, why don't you contact your buddy '' Fidel '' ? I'm 100% sure that Castro will send you a one way ticket to Havana and would make a '' mestizo ' like you a member of his ''party''. Boa Viagem a Cuba...

  • I am Brazilian too. And i agree when you said that US isn't a Paradise. I live in SF. All my respect to you.

  • Comment removed

  • I didn't say that Brazil is a Paradise. It's just different. Our violence it's in the majority of the cases because poverty. In USA the mojority of the cases are gang related.

  • As vezes acho que a melhor solução para o brasil é infileirar os politicos num paredão e mandar bala

  • Jason Kohn do not even know Brazil. He manipulates the public with cliches special-effects. "This movie is forbidden in Brazil"? What you talking about? Afraid of what? Of being killed? ROFL. We're a free country.

I love my country, and we have problems like everyone else, but the TRUTH is that i never knew anyone that has been kidnapped, and my sons are growing like i had did: playing happy, healthy, and out of the crime. And yes, i am fucking poor.

  • @Johngu1tar You probably didn't watch the film. Poor people are not kidnapped, this is why your friends who live in poverty haven't been kidnapped. Kohn doesn't manipulate anyone, he's only showing what reality's like in your country. And because you're "fucking poor", you surely can't afford to visit other countries and see the difference.

  • Brazil is a corrupt country as are all countries, but the violence is worse there.

This corruption and violence seems to make it's way to the US..and especially my town of Framingham Mass. Illegal immigration s a big thing here.

Not a day we don't see some Brazilian being arrested for drugs, domestics disputes, drugs, and just plain violence.

  • @Johngu1tar of course.

  • @Johngu1tar Sou brasileiro também cara, e o filme foi censurado sim, não está disponível aqui no Brasil.

  • I lived in Sao paulo and can say for a fact that what the movie shows is the reality over there...the sad thing is the Brazilian people are too busy watching some dumb soccer game or some other stupid show on T.V do do anything about it.....I also understand that this film has been forbidden to enter Brazil by the authorities ....Why is that ? Whatever happened to the freedom of press in Brazil ???? Come on meus amigos brasileiros, wake up and smell the coffee.....

  • Buu Shit. This is a leftist propaganda, which oreaches war classes ad advocates communist revolutions.

  • What's bull shit ? who's propaganda ? I don't think you know what you're talking about ''meu amigo' . I phoned a few friends in Brazil and They all have said to me They couldn't find that movie anywhere for rent or sale.perhaps it can be found at the ' black-market ' somewhere.Have you even heard about the American - Boy named '' Sean Golman '' that has been kiddnaped by his brazilian mother and that, not a single Brazilian paper or media were allowed to published his story in Brazil ? Google up

  • How in the hell can you compare N.Y. city with a 3rd world city like S.Paulo, Mexico City or even Bogota ? You must be a "' MORON '' for not doing your home work and not even checking with the world news agency about S.Paulo before making a stupid comment like that. Oh yeah, and let me tell you about an old saying they once had there ' Brazil , ame-o ou deixe-o , quem sair por ultimo apaga a luz, I guess that's why You're living here now....

  • @rebelchopperbiker

In the 70s 80s new york was pretty bad.

  • Regardless of your opinion of the content in this doco' it's important to highlight the suppression of the media in Brazil. Billions of dollars were stolen from the Sudam projects, which has helped condemn Millions of Brazilians to poverty and it's by products, and we are completely unaware of it. Is this not Genocide? We should take his f*cking head. As for the people that are annoyed with this doco' for only showing the ugly side of Brazil, Stand up tall. You have a culture like no other!

  • I don't hate Brazil or its people..I hated the government and its political B.S. towards the people. I've sent you an e-mail. check your in-box and let me know...

  • All these movies talk about violence but in a intelligent way.Not showing other people cut year!NEXT TIME GO AND DO a movie about your fucking country, NOT MINE!!! U need to get MUCH MUCH better to talk about BRAZIL!

  • We make thousands of movies about our country every year. It gets pretty dull, seeing yourself all the time. And the worse thing is, everywhere you go in the world, American movies! I've been everywhere, man, and it's all the same. Even the Taliban watch Rambo. Please, tell me a movie about Brazil that's good. All I know about your country is that it's full of football players, gangsters, homosexuals, and jungles on fire. Seriously, that's it. It's a problem.

  • BUT Brazil is not only this! Sao Paulo is one of the most interesting cities in the world! We have a great night life, high gastronomy restaurants, theater, music, and so onAnd then, A STUPIT ARGENTINIAN comes here and decides to sell the world only our sheet? Why? Talk about YOUR SHEET!Do u want to understand Brazil? Go and watch, TROPA DE ELITE, CIDADE DE DEUS and do on.

  • Violence and human misery are always a big hit! People like sensationalism. Death and blood gets all the attention. I hated this movie and i think this is a weak analysis about who we are! Yes, it is true that we have a lot of corruption and violence.

  • Nada de novo nem revelador.

  • 20 million people in Sao Paulo ? 1 kidnapping a day?

    20.000.000=100%

    1= .00005%

So are you saying that 99.99995% of the population is not going to be kidnapped?

    Lolll

  • One of the best documentaries I've seen in years, meaby the best

  • So do something for those guys (like in the film) who is helping the community through his money he earns with the criminal activities.

Help those guys and give the communities another opportunity instead of depending on the crimes!!!!

  • The problem is that this GRINGOS like to come here and tell us what to do, This is one of the worst documentaries i 've seen.

They are just exploring human misery. THEY DO NOT WANT TO HELP!!!

  • They have got to feed their up to 15 kids. So they gonna do what? Its not possible for everyone integrate into the society. especially not in Sao Paulo. So everybody WHO REALLY want to change something within this circumstances, go out and talk to the poor people. The problem is that there is a lot of fear and intollerance inbetween rich and poor people. And while buying a helicopter or a bullet-safe car you wont succeed any better relation to the criminals. You make them even more angry...

  • Its not only "amazing".

There is a lot of trith in this film yes. But what do you expact from a 20 million city population with the biggest gap between rich and poor. Of course there are crimes that happen, and on the other side there are security problems. But the film shows that you never can resolve the problems of violance answering with violance or security. Go forward and help those people that are kidnapping you. do you think they do it for fun? No man, they suffer man.

  • ABSOLUTELY AMAZING

  • This is my Brazil!

  • If extortion and kidnap is such a great concern, let's investigate GE Finance, EXXon, General Motors, The IMF, The FED (where printing money is a mandate for war).

  • Have you even been to countries like these? I'm not saying corruption doesn't exist in the US. But in these countries the politicians walk out with half or more of the city budget among other things.Politicians in the US will steal campaign funds and the pork barrel spending. But politicians in these other countries will have you killed and walk away with most of the budget.

  • Why don't you go to USA and shoot some footage of the armed rednecks and people raping girls after the Katrina Hurricane. Those fucking americans don't like to show themselves but they love to dirty other people'cultures. [2]

  • Why don't you go to USA and shoot some footage of the armed rednecks and people raping girls after the Katrina Hurricane. Those fucking americans don't like to show themselves but they love to dirty other people'cultures.

  • filme fantastico!!

  • Dear Director. PLEASE GO TO ARGENTINA and shoot your next movie there. I am from Brazil actually from Sao Paulo. And I can tell you that this is a superficial and week analyses of what we are. PLEASE DONT TRY TO DO SOMETHING THAT YOU DONT KNOW. Your Movie is the worst documentary I have ever seen. GROW UP!

  • The images and stories aren't made up. What's misleading or "superficial" about the film? Did Jáder Barbalho not steal public funds? Is kidnapping not endemic in Sao Paulo? You're just in denial, and your refusal to even think about what the movie is about is ignorant. Grow up.

  • What about the States? don't you have people killing each other or guys going to school to kill students? It's very easy to look outside, do some filming of less educated and laugh of other countries and use prejudice to feel better and forget a bit how shite is your country. What about Jader Barbalho? The States President's the most dummy'n the world. Grow up you.

  • fuck yourself.

  • stupid canadian

  • Yes moron, and there are a billion documents made about that, you don't see too many people in denial here though. This is not a mockery of our country, this a TRUE report on a factual daily occurrence. Yes, Bush was awful, heard of Fahrenheit 911? I can't cite 10 others if you want.

  • Comment removed

  • First of all, who went to Brazil to mess up what? As far as I'm aware Brazil has been messed up for quite a while. If by that you meant, "Why are they coming here to expose our shit to the world?" Well, my answer to that is - why not? It's for our benefit. I'm sorry, I've been living in the States for 8 years, and I don't sympathize when you say "we" have to pay for what is being reported by other people. I'm ready to take up anyone who has a misconception about Brazil. Continue...

  • Comment removed

  • Continuing... " the ones to be waken up about this reality are the brazilians, nobody else can do a thing." If you have to wake up to go to work tomorrow do you care if the alarm clock was made in China instead of Manaus (not that they produce anything anymore)? Who cares who made the documentary? Which by the way happens to be a guy whose parents are from Brazil. Continue...

  • Finally, to answer your question - Yes , if this documentary reached enough people to make a dent in the status quo, I'd say that "something"has been done. Now, you're exhibiting the same patriotic nonsense I hate so much about some of the people here in the states but at least here they have something to be patriotic about. If you really love your country you should be open to internal and external criticism, the only thing you should be concerned about is the pursuit of truth and justice.

  • You're either a big fat liar or extremely dumb because if you were born and raised here, you'd be able to write basic English, which you have demonstrated you can not. Whether or not Brazilians or Americans have a better reason to feel happier about their respective countries is subjective. I can tell you one thing, I don't see a herd of Americans flocking to Brazil anytime soon, meanhwhile ... well, you know!

  • hahaha Vinicius you're funny, I am faaar from being fat.

I write very very fast and that's why I do mistakes, but I can speak and write english far better than you.

also I have what I bet you're killing for.

AN AMERICAN PASSPORT AND CITIZENSHIP!! cause I was born in AMERICA!

I don't care if you belive me or not that won't take away my citizenship.

and let's stop this stupid thing which won't change any of our points of view.

I respect your points. have a great day!

  • Brazil, the country, isn't defined by your friends, parties and beaches and carnaval; it's government, infrastructure, laws and how they are applied; good conditions for self-development and aspects related to how a country provides for its people. If you take these into consideration, not even you can deny that the U.S. is a million miles ahead of Brazil - acknowledging that will at least give you a starting point to begin to evolve into what you think you are as a nation.

  • oh and I am faaaar from being dumb also ;)

I speak 6 languages and have a prestigious profession plus other things that I won't mention here.

    have a nice day.

don't take things personal my dear, I am not calling you names...

and congratulations, your country will host a world cup and the olympic games! be proud!!

  • @vinicius, The problem is that Truth and Justice would only destroy our way of life at this point.

Everything is connected and the Criminal presence is an integral part of society in today's times, whether or not we like it.

Without wrong there can be no right, and I believe this more now than ever before, because human's don't change they just become more grandiose.

If we enter space, it will only to be dominate it.

p.s. sorry, saw Avatar Monday. ;p

  • I'm from Sao Paulo too and I can tell you that if you watched the documentary, you didn't understand it. One because this is not suppose to be an analyses of the country. It is a factual report on crime, both political and in the streets, focused on a couple of specific characters such as Jader Barbalho. Grow the fuck up and stop being so defensive about your country.

  • i don't know why but this trailer looks like fiction with the music and edition

  • meu primo esta neste vidio

  • Qual dos favelados eh ele?

  • Anyone knows which is the title of the trailer song?

  • As a Brazilian, this is one of the greatest documentaries made about our problems. It's all true, but it's just one part of the tragedy, sadly. As long as Jader Barbalho, Renan Calheiros, José Sarney, Paulo Maluf and Walfrido dos Mares Guia live, the vicious circle will go on.

  • It's funny no matter what country, it's the same story..

  • nice try, but there's no slum like in brazil in other countries because there's check and balances.

  • Ok, I agree with "there's no slum like in Brazil"; well, except in a handful of African nations, Mexico, etc. What do you mean by "because there's check and balances." ? This couldn't be any more general an arbitrary. Anyway, this a great documentary.

  • @MikeCANN really... what countries is it the same in???

  • @Klens75 Not in exactly the same way but pretty much them all, are dealing with these sorts of issues, there's a war on drugs going on. It's not the drugs we are afraid of but the illegal trade it fuels. End the war on drugs.

  • WOW!!, when can I see that in Spain??

  • pqp, aprende a escrever, analfabeto.

& além do mais, pirataria é crime.

  • I live in Brazil. This is all true. Brazil´s judiciary system is too lenient on the criminals (much like the American JS in the 80´s).

There´s not enough prisons so almost every criminal that gets caught is soon "miraculously" out on the streets again.

The Brazilian authorities act like the Brazilian security problem doesn´t exist, and the population is more and more supporting the actions of violent cops - those that kill the bad guys instead of arresting them.

    Not easy.

  • I just watched this at Oslo Int Film Festival and I can honestly say this is the best docco made ever! Cool trailer too!
