WELL DONE for joining up. In the UK I had no problem in basic training. I just went straight for the potatoes and veg section (saved time anyway).
RatPacks/ MRE's in the US (as in the UK) are supplied by Sodexho AND are (should) be available in veg varieties; that said TAKE ALL REASONABLE STEPS to ensure you get "yours".
When asked why you're vegetarian response is "it's not animals I have a problem with (Sir)."
@BritB17 no, you do not have to eat meat. You'll go down a line and tell them what you want to eat. I know you would rather not add meat, I didn't want to either, but you're gonna need a LOT of protien. So be sure to make good choices so you're not passing out. Remember too, you'll be working out a lot, and to make the most of it and gain muscle, you may want to eat meat just for a while, then stop ocne you are out of MBT and can do things like protien shakes and stuff. Thats what I did :)
How was your experience with this? Are you forced to eat meat? Im asking because I have a friend going in who thinks she can get thro her basic training without eating meat. Is it a choice? Or will she have to start eating meat now so her bodies not in shock when she gets to basic.
Id love to give you some meat. Id be in you for an Hr too! women in the military are a joke!!!!!! yall are nothing but eye candy to keep the males sane.
@jesse77565 do really comment on every one of her videos like a douche!??? that's pathetic!! What you just sit there trying to write the most insulting, degrading thing you can find in your little sexist dick handbook!??
I would suggest learning to eat meat before you go, you get about 5 minutes (1-2 for my flight except for 8th week) to eat what ever you can cram down your throat, the more protein and carbs you can get the better, don't be picky just eat. The french toast and syrup (I hope thats what it is) was pretty good. Don't worry bout the runs, your won't be able to crap till 4-5th week anyways.
peanut butter!!! lots and lots of peanut butter! i was a vegetarian before i joined the AF. lets just say by the 2nd week i was wolfin down the meatloaf. ur gonna need ever last ounce of energy u can get. but if u really want to stay away from the meat go with peanut butter and bananas. and if u start to loss too much weight they will put u on an eating waiver. good luck!
i just took my asvab and looking forward to going to meps sometime in November. im also a vegetarian and asked this guy i know who just got back from basic if i would be fine. He told me that there are alot of selections other than meat at basic. so i hope it wouldnt be a problem..
They ask you if you have any special diet requirements, and Vegetarianism counts! They WILL work with you with it. Also, at BMT, you actually have a choice with what you get in the chow line :) Like, you can get mashed potatoes instead of a baked one, chicken instead of steak :P That kind of thing. When you go for food, you tell them what you want :D
@PixieDollable that's so mean lol, my recruiter tell's me it's gonna be fine just as long as i tell them they'll accommodate me... atleast I hope so (oh I'm joining the Army)
hmmm well I dont think theyll make u eat meat but ive seen videos on here showing mti hovering over the trainees so u never know. my best advise to u would become reacquainted with meat at least for bmt because u workout at least i think 6 days a week and ull need protein somehow to help ur muscles recover or ull be hurtin badly lol id try nibbling on beef jerky or eat fish 3-4 times or mix it up. but anyways good luck to u start running and i might see u there ill be there jan 25 2011
