I have identified 4 criteria that can be used in evaluating stimulus options. I think it is a good starting point for establishing a dialog between citizens and government officials. You can view the criteria on a video on my channel called: $17 Billion to producenothing.
The video compares auto bailout to a general stimulus, but the criteria would be valid for any stimulus effort.
As for these bailouts, I personally believe they have been grossly exaggerated in order to open a door to more control and more government intervention. You want to fix the problem, get the government out of it, end the bailouts, and give back the states the power and authority they should have to find their own solutions to the problems. Only then will we see an end to this nightmare of a mess that our elected officials created and enabled!

The unfair competition you describe would ultimately be a monopoly situation where government has most likely interfered with competition. Businesses can only get better when they are allowed to fully compete with their opposition (this is a good, "FAIR" playing field). Ultimately, the top business would have the best quality product at a "fair" price.
When you compare fairness and justice you are moving out of the conversation of competition between businesses. There you are injecting the consumer into the equation. Reduce capital gains taxes? Dude..there are no capital gains in case you haven' t seen the news in the past 8 months. The stock market is down 35 percent and the housing market hasn't seen a house sold for profit in 2 years.
Also, the Republicans ran up an 11 trillion dollar debt. You can't keep printing money without putting the fiat currency at great peril.
Taxes will eventually have to be raised to reduce the debt. Simple economics.

The video compares auto bailout to a general stimulus, but the criteria would be valid for any stimulus effort.

As for these bailouts, I personally believe they have been grossly exaggerated in order to open a door to more control and more government intervention. You want to fix the problem, get the government out of it, end the bailouts, and give back the states the power and authority they should have to find their own solutions to the problems. The unfair competition you describe would ultimately be a monopoly situation where government has most likely interfered with competition. Businesses can only get better when they are allowed to fully compete with their opposition (this is a good, "FAIR" playing field). Ultimately, the top business would have the best quality product at a "fair" price.

There are two things government can do to help the economy:
1) Cut government spending. Cut it drastically. Defeat all "stimulus packages" and bailouts. Balance the budget.
2) Eliminate the Federal Reserve, or failing that, pass a law requiring the Fed to allow interest rates to float at their free market value.

Our economic problem is part the natural outcome of american companies going overseas and other greedy choices.

One suggestion... bring in Peter Schiff and actually listen to his advice. He was one of the few economists who saw this coming, wrote a book about it and now who are you going to talk to? All the same economists who thought everything was wonderful before the bubble burst. Republicans need to go back to their roots of limited government and belief in capitalism and free markets. Government debt and intervention is what got us in this mess in the first place.

Give Hussien and his people everything they want. In fact, bid them up. Obstruct *nothing*. Hand them some extra rope. Help them dig the hole even deeper.
Republicans should simply fold up their tents and go home for at least a decade.
Give them no one to blame. No cover. No excuse.
Until the voters understand socialism they will want it. Give the voters a big fat mouthful of Scoialism and *then* things will change.

A Democracy should be a partnership between government and the people. We all need to do something to help like during WWII. We all need to save more than we spend to help generate capital for investment. Plant a victory garden, learn to compost your organic wastes, convert your car to electricity, the big automakers won't give us affordable electric vehicles. Change the laws to allow golf carts on the street in urban areas. The solutions are there in front of us. Don't despair.

the free market doesn't fix everything. It is not "one simple way" to fix anything. Look at history, did the free market fix ghetto's, racism, sexism, corrupt business etc etc.
What will contribute to social health and the economy is: consequences for bad business practices, rewards for good, planning ahead and the right social programs. I enjoy the benefits of a free market, but if it is totally free, it won't be free for everyone, and will leave a lot of people and things shorthanded.

It is not the government's role to stimulate the economy. The current economic problems are a direct result of irresponsible government interference in the free market, and further interference only serves to extend and perpetuate these problems. To correct these problems, the government should not ask, What more can it do? but How much less can it do? Government interference in the free market created our current economic problems, and further government interference is not the solution.
