  • Phil is spot on......

  • Superb control of that car, great driver and co-driver.....

  • Great drive from Guy and Phil. Thanks for posting this video.

  • I think the brakes might be squeaking after they have mud splashed all over them. Amazing driving and great co-driving. You can hear the forces on his body in the way it changes his voice. cool vid.

  • one twentyyyyyyy

  • how does he know the road condition ahead of the time

  • I wish WRC would seriously invest in better sound capture

the sound in ALL of these videos is shit ... its muffled and you either can't hear the co-driver or can't hear the engine or both

  • watch my films:)

  • great coordination!

  • why are his brakes squeaking?

  • FUCKING SPEAKER

  • lmao this is funny to me for sum reason

  • Stellar.

  • " and 60 turn narrow right 5 round wall, and slippy *ckkk*, narrow" love it

  • Why do they speak like that?

  • @cjjesse r u serious ? well okay I´ll answer. They speak trough intercom, but there´s a lot of noise in cars like that + gear makes some noise during contact with track too. There are also loads of small jumps and cracks in the track, so you shake like a salt shaker...And you still need to be 100% understood so you won´t end up in tree ;)

  • Such a stupid question.

  • You're stupid.

  • Really cars sound different usually because of the gearbox. The gears are cut different, they're straight cut. Usually you can buy these for WRX, STI's or pretty much any manual transmission car, they're usually called dogboxes.

  • Some of the noise is due to gears, but alot of it is the turbo whine.

  • man why do rally cars sound so different. every rally vid i watch the cars just sound like electric rc car or sum

  • That's because rally cars (and so many race cars) have spur (straight cut) gears. You can hear an everyday manual transmission car make the same noise in reverse gear which is a spur gear. Street cars don't make that sound while moving forward as the forward gears are always helical. Google on gears. It is an interesting subject to learn about.

  • o thanks. i was wondering because i could barely hear the sound of the engine. all i hear is a whining sound.

  • @crx1299

One of the best comments i've read in my youtube life! thanks!

  • @crx1299 My Datsun pickup has a 4-speed with straight cut gears, now I just need SU carb setup and L20 cam in the L16 that's in it, plus a limited slip rearend. New thicker, heavy-duty tie rods and torsion bars, plus tower support bars. I like the L series for its nasty low-end torque for an 8v sohc 4 cylinder.

  • i get the part when the navigater says the turn direction but when he says something like:left 5

  • thats the "rate" of how hard the turn is

left 1 is a light left turn

left 5 is maybe something like a 45 degree turn

  • oh...okay...

  • @sothatswhathapppened

it's the opposite. lower the number the sharper/slower the turn will be.

  • @xplat you gotta watch the video.

i know WRC pros use #1-6 for their gears but this guy is going the other way.

  • @sothatswhathapppened

its an irish/english thing i believe. If my memory serves me right ive heard mcrae use the same system.

  • @dashdanw yh the number system isn't anything to do with the gears its to do with the sharpness of the corner, 1 is a very slight bend, 6 is a slow 2nd gear bend

  • your an idiot.

  • No haha, seriously your a fucking idiot, if you think guy wilks is slow, your a knob, dont bother replying back to me. Look at your -5 bud. get fucked

  • don't be such an obnoxious twat, I fucking like to see you drive faster than guy wilks!

  • hahaha.

    Ireland is our future colony.

    They study English.

  • NICE PACE NOTES COMMENTARY

  • who is this person

  • Holy hell. This is my first time watching an in car view while hearing the navigator speak. I thought it was so funny at first because it seemed like a bunch of jibberish, but it really is some complex info. Both the navigator and the driver have to be paying attention 100% of the time.

  • Slippy!! That was a good stage...

  • jesus the co-pilot was reading almost the same pace as the car lol

  • beautiful

  • great drive by Guy

  • the best rally roads are in ireland....cant beat irish rallys.........

  • isle of man , nuff said

  • wow. i can even believe how hard it is just to understand that. might as well ask my buddy hear armin shwartz. great character. good day

  • JEEZ! I couldnt keep up with the pacenotes that copilot is on fast-forward lol

  • this guy aint t just the copilot but he is a great mc u hear.he s riming like a mother....shut ur mout

  • Ireland and Whales have some dangerous looking roads. Not only are they bumpy as hell, narrow and full of gravel areas with loose rocks, stone walls a couple feet on either side of you, but every time they are racing in these locations it just rained making the roads like an ice rink in areas.

  • thanks for the video

  • No, you can hear the engine revs change as he changes gear but the whine of the straight-cut gears in the gearbox makes it sound like a single gear as he gets faster.

  • the gears are close shift but no it has a full transmission you just cant hear it over the drive gears.

  • he has pedal dhifter which are on the wheel he changes with his fingers and you can here the exhuast if u listen hard you can hear the gear changes its just the engine and stuff are louder than the exhaust. peace.

  • there is a reason why no formula 1 guy comes to wrc. they would suck at this!!!

  • it would be like dropping a mouse in a lions mouth

  • Kimi Raikkonen actually did race in WRC several weeks ago. He was in 3rd until he crashed, but being in thrid proves he doesn't suck! I'm sure Colin Mcrae has crashed once or twice.

  • He was 15th in the whole rally. He was competeing in the N4 class of which there are 10 competitors. He crashed on stage 19.

  • He only finished 15 th because he had crashed on the final stages. be4 he had crashed he was in 3rd.

  • No. He was in 15th positon after stage 18. He crashed on stage 19. It says so clearly on the WRC website when you click the results and look at the results after each stage. He was in a less powerfull S2000 car also. Your wrong, there is no way he was in 3rd overall. Maybe you mean 3rd in class?

  • Fantastic pace notes Pughy, hardest job is keeping Guy calm and on the road.

  • i agree ,, i amazing work . imagine reading inside that car..!

  • Oh, please. You wouldn't even be able to breath, let alone speak. You'd be too busy whimpering and hyperventilating with your eyes clenched shut.

  • so it's still a teribble accent lol

  • he's welsh you idiot

  • i dont fucking care if he is welsh or fucking chinnees he's got a enoying fucking vice

  • your spelling is shocking, I'd hazard a guess your dyslexic?

  • guy wilks is awsom for his class and hes a nice guy ive spoke to him quiet a few times

  • haha he have funny voice .. nice driving

  • How far ahead is the co-driver calling the course?

  • its amazing to see how they handle their car in a very narrow road ...

    very high-skilled ...

  • Very exciting and professional

  • just cool, the co driver has no much time to breathe... verry cool race!!

  • just shows how important and tough a co-drivers duties are.

  • @nokmuay1970 no space for a mistakes.

  • i like how the co driver talks =]

  • Yep well it would be pretty much pointless having the Co-driver if he Didn't talk! Oh hang do you mean his accent?

  • yea its awsome =]

  • Yeah it's welsh I think, i love when he says fiveeee-ah lol!

  • i like how he says his 20's 30's 40's and slippy

  • someone should make a proper wrc game.. like the best bits of cmr and r.burns rally and add this co driver .. i'd be topping world records wit that :D

  • I like the increase in the co-driver's intensity with the increase in speed! And of course "That's a good stage, hmm?" Love it!

  • exellenct control in such poor conditions

  • Poor conditions? lol i would love to take my audi on that course

  • 原來做觀眾係咁鬼危險, 都係搵個高位睇算數.

  • gooooooooooooooood

  • I've never heard before such a funny pronunciation!!! hahahajaja

  • just class

  • i think "care" goes without saying everywhere on that stage haha

  • slow and slippy!

    good vid

  • This is amazing. It looks a lot harder with this camara perspective. Sometimes you don't even see the road ahead of you and the road seems so small. What a thrill It's sad that you don't see this on tv a lot in Holland. Only boring formula 1 races.

  • Same thing in the US, zero rally coverage, but ghey NASCAR is shown. I can't understand why World Rally and some sort of off-road championship truck racing isn't more popular. NASCAR is like watching golf, and F1, while very technical, isn't that exciting.

  • Hello everyone,

neither we in Italy have lotsa rally on tv... glad about this channel as well! ;)

    Brandon

  • woaw, you can really see that the co-driver is basically your eyes on the road, and you have to beat the clock with the car !!

    Amazing !

  • the co-driver may be a good rapper

  • i dont understand a shit what the co-driver is saying only Left and Right etc

  • In this case, it seems the number is the severity of the corner. Like a slight bend =1 and a hairpin =5. Usually the number is the suggested gear to be in.

  • ok cool =D

  • Yea and I heard a 7 in there too. Thats the tightest ones.

Sometimes its opposite, where 6 and 7 are the fastest corners

  • Thank god for this channel, this is so exciting I just don't get why it's not on tv here in the US : (

  • God I miss the WRC..... Please merciful lord let it come back to the US....

  • SERIOUSLY. I am very upset they decided to remove it from the SPEED channel. I mean yeah it had low ratings because most of us americanas just like going left or straight, u throw in dirt roads and nice right hand turns, watch the nascar guy spin for hours.

  • i agree i dont see the skill involved in nascar espicailly not in drag racing.........

  • Nascar is more endurance, Drag Racing is car power and driver reaction. Rally is better regardless. :]

  • u got nascar :) buuuu huuuuu huuuu

  • lol it sounds like the co-pilot was having an orgasm the whole time. Then it ended with the race . musta bin a blast X^P .

  • hair on my neck stood up

  • wasnt guy wilks rode on mitsu lance evo in raly GB 2008 as group N???

  • Yes,he was

  • Good request!

  • Thanks mate !

  • It was my favourite stage of the whole event,a proper irish stage unlike some of stages we did

  • beautiful landscape

  • The back roads where I live are similar to the Irish roads, so that familiarity gives a real idea of just how fast that is - i.e. VERY. And as the codriver said at the end, that *was* a good stage!

    Ireland 2009 should be brilliant.

  • Brilliant, I had this at full volume with my heart in my throat!

  • The audio on this is amazing, thanks for this

  • OMG that was an awesome stage \\{'.')//

  • only 2 more months and the new season kicking off in Ireland...cant wait WRC Ireland 2009 is gonna be class...serious tough stages

  • Jes! :D Tack!

  • I agree with heinzzharald about the camera ange, is it possible to get a few other shots, maybe some of the drivers behind the wheel at some points?

  • good video but I don't like a lot this camera angle !

I prefer to see the driver's work, especially on asphalt.

also I agree with fangio fan about 90s !

  • Very fast! I like the co-driver, he has so funny accent. I would love to see some more older incars, preferably even from pre-2000s! Some Rally Finland incars from the 1990s would be really rare to see and very fast also.

  • Thats a Welsh accent :)

not so funny when you hear it every day :P

  • Agreed!

  • Hey wrc could you get any onboard footage of the ireland lough gill stage? SS4 and SS7. Dani Sordo was fastest on that stage i think...would be great if i could see some onboard footage of it. This video is awesome I was at this stage last year i was standing in on the left at 5:11 before the square right..jawdropping speeds!Keep up the good work!

  • nice video, what car is it? Impreza?

  • Yeah mate. Impreza WRC05.

  • beatiful video

  • isn't "erri" a scandinavian word?

and it never ceases to amaze me the variety that drivers use in their notes. "deceptive" and "good grip on exit", never heard those before.

  • Yes, "eri" is a Finnish pace note word for "medium". :)

  • Have you heard James O´Brien, codriver to Andrew Nesbitt? He uses what noone other does :-)

  • i've seen sidewalks wider than that

  • Thanks!! hope wilks gets a works car for '09

  • Great video. Although Ireland is a good adition to wrc calendar, the same calendar is butchered by some beaurocratic FIA wankers. I mean, a yaear which doesn't start with Monte Carlo?!!! sucks

  • Thanks ! Nice vid !

  • Oh man those Ireland stages are demanding!

It looks soooo slippy that I can't believe how they can push so hard. Just amazing!

  • hey man ya i am from ireland and if finland have some of the best gravel roads,we have the best tarmac ones.cant wait for rally ireland in january.

  • Yeah I agree! I loved Rally Ireland 2007, it was a great rally, lot's of action and very difficult conditions. Can't wait for the 2009 edition!

  • hopefully he gets a wrc drive for 09

  • He definitely deserves it.
