  • What is the name of the man at 5:35?

  • Damn Stephen Hawkings email address is just out of view 0:18

  • science is so very important

  • It sucks that Hawking has to suffer with ALS while a monkey like W. Bush is allowed to pollute the Earth with his continued existence.

  • @BlameRepublicans Calling W. Bush a monkey is offensive. Nature deserves more respect.

  • Those sideburns of Dawkins' makes him look like Scrooge McDuck

  • i was kinda thinking this was going to be docu. of riichard dawkins

  • god ? who is god what is god what is religion really ... according to bible no one should every pray to idols and jesus wasnt a god he said himself ... yet religion tell us otherwise ... hypocrisy ? hahaha

  • sub spanish

  • It's weird to think about how people age away from us. I can't imagine Stephen Hawking and Richard Dawkins dying. They're my contemporaries, yet I will have to continue without them someday.

  • @proprodigySD yeah, so sad... the challenge, is to replace them...

  • I love that Hawking asked Dawkins why he is so obsessed with God

  • I would rather have many Einsteins, Darwins, Dawkins and Hawkings than Jerry Falwells, Benedicts, Ayatollahs, Ted Haggards, etc...

  • @bluehoneycomb Then incite curiosity and a skeptical attitude to whom you love, know, ... and the geniuses will follow.

Curiosity kills not only the cat (shame), but also the bad influence of thought fallacies, enforced beliefs and ideologies ;)

  • @bluehoneycomb Amen to that!

  • i WAS ABOUT TO CRY WHEN I HEARD "YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE THE CLEVEREST KID IN CLASS TO BE A GREAT SCIENTIST" Thanks for the motivation.

  • Science!!! Becouse science WORKS. :)

  • Let's face it: for all we know it is NOT Hawking who is speaking through his box.

  • Tears in my eyes and shivers down my spine.

  • I almost cry at the end.

  • No doubt like many other people, series like this fill me with wonder. I find them inspiring, and if I could go back to school I'd want to pursue a branch of science. Discovery and the search for truth are noble activities, and the future of humanity depends on them.

  • Dawkins & Hawkin are both as important as Newton & Einstein imo. If you just look at what an impact these men have had on the development of the understanding of live and the universe.

  • four color problem was answered by computers, but it turned out that it can be answered easier by humans. So far, it is true that computers did not change our views about the universe, but if computers become more and more powerful, there may be much bigger four color problems in the future. I would predict that in a few hundred years, science-specific ultra-computers will be making all the major scientific progress, unless we have already answered all major problems before that.

  • Would not have been able to enjoy watching these two titans, Stephen Hawking and Richard Dawkins, going head to head. I do share alphacause's concern, it was a pity that Dawkins did not press Hawking further... but oh well.

Many thanks to uploading and sharing this. Very enlightening and informative.

    Thank you.

  • Absolutely fantastic! Thank You for sharing!

  • Great presentation of science, it certainly makes me feel proud of finding my passion within this sector of reality. As a student, i observe a lot of different characters, persons, which populates our species. I just wish i could convince them all by ease to turn to science, the correct way in my opinion, but sadly evolution has made us so that we need to find emotional connections to our passions. That is exactly what science needs to offer in order to "convert" people to it.

  • Stephen hawking has been having a rough patch in his personal life for the past few weeks. Apparently, Microsoft Mary is leaving him for Microsoft Sam !!! HOO HAH !!! NOOB TOOBS !!!

  • Its touching when two scientists show that kind of mutual respect for one and oher, two geniuses meet and share their intelect with each other

  • This episode what awesome!

  • Two great men of our generation.

  • It SEEMS like they did it simpler, so non-scientists could understand it. I personally knew all of that from the start.

  • in 100 years from now, where would the religious people be wiithout scentists? the planet would be in chaos

  • @llHyRaXll You can also ask yourself the same thing about our present day. Religious "facts" would have gotten us thus far as where it was dominant, the DARK ages. Despite of dependent of it, they characterize it as a belief, which is so terribly wrong. Science is a mirror of reality from our point of view, the best reality explanation we can possibly get. Religious fundamentalist are sitting on their computer, harassing science without realizing the fact that they are sitting on it, basically.

  • @Deliwio good point.. we would not have computers or much else if we didnt have science!... i hate when religious people call scientists or atheists arrogant for not believing in god...... but they are the arrogant ones for claiming to know everything about our world!!

  • 4:00 is my favorite part. Two great minds of our time talking and sharing that moment.

  • I love that Hawking can still crack a sly smile

  • David Attenborough!! omg he is one of my hero's !! was very nice to throw him in at the end <3 nature FTW

  • EPIC show! NERD all stars!<3

silly question but if a hot chick bends over in front of hawking's does his voice box shout lewd obscenities? jk

  • In dawkins' characteristic modesty, I'm sure he believes the genius of britian is richard dawkins. lol while we all know it's mick jagger

  • @xtrmsprts

No, John Lennon, Charles Chaplin or Stan Laurel!

  • @dawkinschannel lennon's cool.

  • @xtrmsprts

    Actually, it was Benny Hill.

  • @buffboynick wtf are you talking about

  • awesome!1

  • Dictator!

  • I wish dawkins would update his channel!

  • Man. I love science.

  • Thanks for uploading. It gives hope for the future of mankind.

  • HEY @dawkinschannel.

Are you actually Richard Dawkins or are you just getting Richard's material onto Youtube?

  • @TheAlaricPetz Read the about section on his channel "This channel is an ode to the British ethologist, evolutionary biologist and science author Clinton Richard Dawkins...."

  • @mikerodeman Thank you :D

  • @TheAlaricPetz You're welcome!! :D

  • @TheAlaricPetz

Yeah, the second option! But Dawkins got an own channel here too. Watch it, it's cool.

  • @dawkinschannel What's the name of Richard Dawkins' channel?

  • i'm going to build the frist FTL drive and gravational space faring ships. I don't live forever and i don't like the factb that space is so big, i can't get to were i want to go in time. We shall see!!

  • Thank-you for this.

  • Enjoyable vid. IMO Dawkins is a world class narrator.

Criticisms: Why the jingoism? What does science have to do with imaginary lines drawn on paper? Also, the assumptions of anthropomorphic global warming and overpopulation are actually quite very debatable.

  • Would you like to work with me? I would love to give you the subtitles in english and spanish for this video.

  • @LancerZEV

Hmm, i'd love to, but I don't have time unfortunately... Wish I could and had the time, but I got to make choices. Thanks for the offer, anyway! :-)

  • Will this century be the time we will finally be intelligent enough to understand the world enough to not make things up, and get rid of religion.

Oh the world would be such a peaceful place, with people not being hindered in learning and understand the world as it.

  • This is seriously making me think about going back to college and changing my career field. I love science and ever since I 1st heard Mr. Dawkins I have found myself hanging on every word.

  • @gary031183 What career might you be considering; and if you don't mind my asking, what is your age, as well as gender, life circumstances etc.?

  • @GodofCider Was just about to log off and go to bed. lol. I am a 27 yrs old male. I am currently in the Satellite Commnuications field. I have been in it for 8 years now and hold a degree from the U of Maryland.

I don't mind sharing but I would like to know why you would like to know?

    Thanks!

  • I love this program, but I dislike the nationalism in it. Science has no nationality.

  • @1RadicalOne I really don't see it as a form of nationalistic influence; after all, they 'were' British scientists.

  • So? The discoveries are the same no matter where they were discovered or by whom.

  • @1RadicalOne True.

  • My only disappointment is that Dawkins didn't press Hawking further about the God question. That was such a colossal missed opportunity. I just wished Dawkins could have asked Hawking "So did you really mean to use God figuratively in your book “Brief History of Time”, or do you believe in God as most religions envision him?" I think I know what Hawking meant, but Christians love to misquote Hawking and other physicists, so it would have been a great opportunity to clear up any confusion.

  • @alphacause

It wouldn't do any good anyway. The fundies would just say that Dawkins edited the tape or framed the question wrong or whatever. Either that, or they would just ignore it. They do a damn good job of that with Einstein, Founding Fathers, etc.

  • @AlexandraOfPella You have a point. It really doesn't matter what we say, our how patently obvious the evidence is, they will always find some way to get around the evidence in order to uphold their beliefs.

  • @alphacause Indeed. Every time I talk with a "beliefer" about the subject I can't help having the picture of a little boy/girl in front of me that sticks his fingers in his ears and sings "Lalalalalalalalalaaaa. If I can't here you it's not true.". I pretty much gave up to talk to these people reason and logic just won't work on them.

  • @p3st0lino In the words of Gregory House, if reason worked on those people, they wouldn't be religious to start with.

  • @alphacause Couldn't agree more.

  • @alphacause

Hawking's new book, The Grand Design, will come out next week. Hopefully we'll get an answer for your concern. I'm not too knowledgeable about Hawking, but I doubt he seriously believes in a god and I'm certain that he finds the idea of the christian god a very, very bad and sad joke.

  • @alphacause

Hawkings is a self admitted Agnostic.

He believes in aliens but doesnt know for sure about a deity (or God)

As for Dawkins........he is a Freemason NWO fraud and an idiot.

    Michio Kaku Owns both!!!! yay

  • @buffboynick Dawkins "the selfish gene" owns Kaku, and Hawkings work on black holes owns Kaku too.

Kaku is just an attention seeker. He is always bragging about his mothers reaction to his betatron accelerator in the basement and how he was asked to build atom bombs but refused because he wants to finish Einsteins work. To me it seems that he likes making money off "predicting the future" and "blowing your mind" with books documentary's that have nothing but already known facts in them.

  • @alphacause I guess it's settled now.

  • @alphacause Christians will misquote him no matter what.

  • @alphacause

It's a show by adults, meant for adults... There's really no reason for spending time refuting religion.

  • @alphacause maybe Hawkins has been asked before and he had summed up the confusion but it was not so famous, that might be why he didn't ask. It also paints the wrong picture about his obsession with god IMO

  • @alphacause Hawking (and Mlodinow) already cleared that doubt in their new book - The Grand Design. "Grand Unified Field Theories" may all finally explain the mystery of the universe's creation without recourse to a divine creator.

  • @alphacause I don't think dawkins could ask that, because questions must be prepared before interview with Hawkins, as I know.

  • @alphacause I wish he would've asked him that too, for the same reasons you stated. But it takes Stephen many days just to answer the questions Richard put forth in this episode, so asking him questions that require him to almost defend himself would not only be mean but perhaps too time consuming. The god debate is over for anyone who wanted to listen, anyway!

  • @Nilgard Hawking has now answered the question in such a definitive manner, that no Christian can distort what he has said to make it look like he is a theist. Just look up the phrase "Stephen Hawking there is no heaven" on a Google search. The first article that appears, in the Google search, is from the Guardian, where Hawking highlights his disbelief in theism/afterlife and lookup on the YouTube search engine the phrase “Stephen Hawking on Religion: 'Science Will Win Because it Works'.

  • @alphacause To me when Dawkins said "what existed before the big bang, before time and space" one must be forced to admit that something gave rise to a chain of event that now include everything that exists. And that original thing, be it God, energy or some force, must have existed FOREVER. Never had a beginning and has ALWAYS existed. To me it is clear that is the case and it is a real mind binder for me. Is it God? If it's God, is it the God of one of the religions? Or is it something else?

  • @boblackey1 Something interesting that I like to think of to put it into perspective is the Universe being filmed from begining to present on camera. The way I think of it; we wouldn't sit down and watch a few millenia of blackness and suddenly the Big Bang would occur on screen. Rather, I think (and I could be totally wrong) that the moment we press "Play", the Big Bang occurs and the film progresses from there. If there was "nothing" before the Big Bang, then there was simply nothing to see.

  • @SeedsOfHatred Well the second part of your message is the only one that would work IF the big bang inflation theory is correct. Before the big bang, there would be no place for you, me or the play button to be located as there was NO space. To me, I agree with those such as Dr. Kaku who feel this theory leaves the door wide open for God to exist. Hawking says the universe created itself out of nothing and God does not exist. That is NUTS to me. Dr.Kaku says "Stephen goes too far".

  • @SeedsOfHatred Hawking and Dawkins are not impressive to me due to their atheism. To me, there is NO question atheism can not be confirmed just as one can not confirm God but there are things that indicate God does exist, but one can't be sure. So the agnostic is the most practical. There is also the possiblity the Big Bang never happened and the universe as existed forever without a beginning. That is a minority view held by the late Fred Hoyle, Tom Gold, Mr.&Mrs Burbdige, Herman Bondi etc.

  • @boblackey1 Agnosticism is practical, yes. But I'm not really sure how that fits in to the topic at hand. There is significant evidence to support the theory that there was in fact a Big Bang. We can find traces of the sudden energy-output, as well as the observable fact that the Universe is (very) slowly expanding outward from some central point in the cosmos.

  • @SeedsOfHatred But yet there are a few big names in science who either doubt or reject the Big Bang and find other ways to explain all of it and some of the other ways they say are better ways. As a scientist said on another video, we've now with the latest telescopes looked 13.5 billion years back in time and the universe is rather uniform even then so it may well be infinate and eternal.

  • @boblackey1 There are also a few "big names" in science who remain practicing Christians as well.

The Universe may be eternal just as much as (to use Dawkins' metaphor) there may be a teapot orbiting the Sun. There could be, we don't know. However, there's a decent amount of evidence to suggest that the Big Bang did occur. 13.5 Billion years proves nothing. Anything is possible. But there's evidence for option 1, which is not the case for option 2.

  • @SeedsOfHatred Well why not type in "the big bang never happened part 1". It is many parts, about 6 and I haven't watched them all as like you, I think it is more likely the big bang happened but I'm not sure just as I'm not sure life origniated here on earth but came from outerspace..well the first person you see is Geffory Burbdige, Phd who rejects the Big Bang as does his wife who is also works in physics. When we look at the universe with the best telescopes 13.5 billion years what ya see?

  • @boblackey1 *Sigh* You're assuming, blindly, that because we can see that it's been here for at least 13.5 Billion years, then it simply must have always been. As I said, 13.5 Billion years proves nothing other than the fact that it's been here for AT LEAST 13.5 Billion years. Who's to say the big bang didn't occur 14.5 Billion years ago, hmm?

A small minority rejecting the big bang theory doesn't impress me. The greater majority ACCEPTING the theory, based on evidence, does.

  • @SeedsOfHatred You keep saying those who support the big bang have evidence and imply those who do NOT have NO evidence. Clearly you have not watched "The Big Bang Never Happened Part 1" here on YouTube. Maybe you don't want to know what the evidence IS that supports NO big bang. Stephen Hawking now says the Universe created itself, without God, out of nothing(BS) in the big bang. Hawking now is showing his ignorance and the fact he, like the rest of us, doesn't now how the universe began.

  • @boblackey1 you seem to have gotten some easy facts wrong, Atheism is nothing to prove, or not to prove, atheist is the name for a person who dont believe in any of the thousands of gods man kind has.

and Stephen Hawking explains that gravity is the reason BIG BANG theory is a strong theory. you should also check out on wikipedia or some other fact site about what science theories are. but yes, no one knows for sure how it all started.

  • @oaaserud Dawkins doesn't know the answer to any of the big questions I want to answer. I've watched several videos with Dawkins and one is very telling. Dawkins interview by Ben Stein. Dawkins says he doesn't know how life began on earth. What happened to cause non-living material to become LIVING! Dawkins even admitted that the panspermia theory (life came from space) could be right. Dawkins also admits he doesn't know the answer as to how the universe came to be, what existed b4 the big bang

  • @boblackey1 your comment has nothing to do with mine? as i said, no one knows for sure how it all started. and the only people that says they do are religious

  • @oaaserud Well to me there is no doubt at all that you have that right. No one knows how it all started. Dawkins tells Stein (who wanted Dawkins to tell him how the universe and life began) that NOBOY knows the answers to those questions. Did God do it? That is possible and some scientists have found any lucky accidents that indicate an intelligence at work (see Fred Hoyle's Wikipedia page). And there is that minority which INCLUDED Fred Hoyle the holds the universe is eternal. (more)

  • @oaaserud So it seems to me that Dawkins and other atheists are guilty of a "rush to judgment" and are allowing their emotions and blind faith motivate them to claim to be atheists. Just as a believer in one of the world's great religions is operating on faith. In the New Testament Jesus is quoted as saying that one can't know God without faith that he exists. If one is not able to exercise that kind of faith and the foundational questions can not be answered by science, why not be an agnostic?

  • @boblackey1 you got Atheism wrong. The bible also says the world is flat and is standing on poles. if a book is full of lies and says it is perfect and flawless it makes me wonder. there may be someone or something that created the Big bang, but Christians, Jews, Muslims have been proven wrong, if they believe in a perfect being that says our planet is flat and 6.000 years old, their god is completely retarded, or they are for thinking its right when we know our planet are over 4 billion years

  • @oaaserud My definition of atheism is "one who rejects the primise that God exists". Your definition must be "one who rejects the God of any religions". With MY definition Dawkins is not an atheist even though he thinks he is. He admitted to Ben Stein that on a scale of 1 to 7 his atheism is a 6. Well for Dawkins to be a REAL atheist, it MUST be a 7. He is actually an agnostic who is close to being an atheist.

  • @boblackey1 your definition of atheism is wrong. "Atheism is, in a broad sense, the rejection of belief in the existence of deities." being an atheist, means you reject there being some super incredible, invisible, perfect creature in any way. when Dawkins talks about there might being a chance of a god, he says yes. well there is a chance, but its the same chance of there being a te-pot flying around the sun. keep your head to the facts. i would like to thank you for not pointing out my bad eng

  • @oaaserud Hey relax. You are speaking with a friend. I enjoy knocking around ideas and it is never personal with me. I've had some to really cuss me out and call me an "idiot" "a f***** fool" etc etc. But that is stupid and child like. Every subject should be and can be discussed with friendliness and civility:-)

  • @oaaserud I've visited a few conservative Christian sites and there I find that they absolutely hold that evolution is a lie, Darwin was a disciple of the devil and the earth is ONLY 6,000 years old. They also trash Christians as fake Christians who accept evolution and hold the earth is 4.6 billion. The Roman Catholic Church now offically holds the earth is 4.6 and evolution happened. Also what we call the Big Bang theory was originated by a Roman Catholic Priest who also was an astronomer.

  • @oaaserud The Roman Catholic Church and many more liberal Christians like the big bang. They see it as God's work. And there is a Christian website run by a Christian astronomer, Huge Ross, Phd, called "Reasons to Believe" which persents much scientific evidence they think proves God's existence. But it is trashed by the conservative protestants because it holds the earth is 4.6. Christians like this don't interperate Genesis literally. The six days of creation could be millions of years long.

  • @boblackey1 religions say one thing, and when they find out its been proven to be wrong, they just change their belief to fit again.. and continue to do this. christians murdered people for proving the world was flat, which was the same as saying their god was a retard. i dont give a shit if your agnostic and like it.. our planet is atleast 4 billion years old, our univers atleast 14.5 and there is no evidence of there ever being a god. these are FACTS.

  • @boblackey1 another thing to say is that the Bible is wrong..

all religions ive seen so far are pretty much wrong and built of lies. but i wont judge you for thinking that something/someone might have started the BIG BANG =)

  • @oaaserud Well Genesis 1 could be right. "In the beginning God said 'let there be light'"...The Big Bang!! That is IF the big bang really happened. Two creation stories in Gen. Several of the so-called experts such as the late Fred Hoyle (he named the theory the big bang even though he never believed it) who hold/held a static universe model, posit that the universe never had a beginning or a moment of creation, has always existed. That is what is said of God. God is eternal without a beginning.

  • @alphacause saw a program on discovery not so long ago about Hawking, and he made it clear that he dont believe in god =) but he was optimistic in there being alien life somewhere in the vast area we call space

  • Wow, when I saw Richard Dawkins and Stephen Hawking exchange questions, I got goose bumps. This is truely a meeting of two of the biggest intellectual titans of our age.

  • OK, in the spirit of the video, I'll ask a couple of important questions:

1/ Why are Richard Dawkins's side burns so fluffy?

2/ In the 'accomplishments of science' montage, why was there no mention of the digital watch?

  • Britannia!

  • thank goodness for all scientists through the ages(the fact that some of my fellow-countrymen were among the greatest also, makes me proud as hell :) ).

also thank you for uploading this film, and giving me the opportunity to see hawking and dawkins talk, and the fabulous attenborough.

  • Thank you for uploading the videos.

  • 69 views how sad it should be 69000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 views

  • @martin2132004

It's just one hour online, man...

  • @dawkinschannel lol. I thought the same thing. He just didn't notice. Good point though.

  • @dawkinschannel You're on Reddit! Expect view boost.

  • @martin2132004 give it time man! 301 now, and it was uploaded yesterday!

  • @martin2132004 That's about six trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion times the number of humans that have ever lived.

  • @martin2132004 it seems it is growing exponentially, I am optimistic.

  • @martin2132004 That would be nice, but every man, woman, and child on earth would have to watch this about 100 quintillion times. They would have to been watching it from the time of the big bang until now times about 7.5 million. ;-)

  • I love these videos - the geniuses of science amaze me every time...

  • I know this is kind of fucked up, but I wonder if they re added Stephen Hawking's voice back in to that it would sound better.

  • @sulthus he had the chance, but turned it down. because that weird, robot sounding voice is his now. it's easily recognizable, so he didn't want to change it :)

  • @happylinnetful its very cool too.like when you use auto speak on windows to say "boom shaklacka booom!" :)
