  • GDR Had = Good Education, for all.

GDR Had = Health Care, for all.

USA Has = Adequate Education, Insanely Expensive.

USA Has = Health Care, doesn't exist in the country.

  • Good to see that Anti-Communist propaganda isn't as successfull as some people want it to be.

  • @Ixam13 Yes! Its all propaganda when they talk shit about them

  • Interesting piece of news reel

  • Watched too much sandman....lol

  • I noticed that many of the idiots who are nostalgic for East Germany in the video were toddlers when it was re-united.

  • @Mrpastry909 says 'Mrpastry' from United States. I wonder if he is ignorant? Hmmmm...

  • @Adonnus100

No, I actually read my history.

  • @Mrpastry909 did you ever live in a communist country?

  • Most of them are just poor, unhappy (maybe unemployed) peoples who think everything would be better if the GDR still would exist. And of course it was better for those who didn't say something against the goverment and didn't want to choose their own way of life.

  • I guess these nostalgic fools forget the environmental and ecological disaster that the DDR left behind. Never mind the archaic antiquated industrial /energy(or lack thereof) system that the DDR had

  • Yeah - and all those booming small businesses! Great economy, bustling streets.and freedoms and choices- and all those other parties to choose from in East Germany. i guess the STASI is just a myth? Yeah right what a bunch of selective memories - idiots!

  • @SkietPiet70

Can we say stockholm syndrome. "or something like it"

  • The present Germany is getting back to very nationalistic form, not quite as Hitler-Goebbels, but very alike in many areas. - Hidden Germans-Jewish fascism Nazism ruled by Rothschild agents. Hitler was Rothschild agent developing fake-holocaust in which only 76 thousand selected Jews died, not like they claim 6 million. It was made up for propaganda to control the world by accusing of anti-Semitism. The victims were only Polish people 12 million not like official 6 million.

  • @hladami4

Are you kidding me? You aren't able to say "i love germany" in germany without getting called a Nazi by some Idiots. There is almost NO Nationalism left in Germany and even Patriotism isn't really allowed here.

The only thing germany FINALLY does, is trying to"fight"for it's own Interessts with diplomatic methods like any other Nation in the World.US are the worst when it comes to Nationalism, better you take care about your own buisness that before you start blaming other countries.

  • I ,AS A WHITE MAN, OFTEN WONDERS WHAT IT WOULD BE LIKE LIVING IN AN ALL EUROPEAN COUNTRY? THE WHITE MAN SHOULD LEARN TO LIVE WITH EACH OTHER. WE ARE ALL WHITE COUSINS WITHIN THE WHITE RACE, THEREFORE, WE AS A PEOPLE SHOULD GET ALONG WITH OUR PEOPLE/RACE

  • @tomcat624u i agree one hundred percent

  • If the GDR was so great them why did so many people die trying to escape, remember the celebrations when the wall came down

  • @idontsignin They thought that West Germany would be their savior and that everything would be wonderful. The rest was just euphoria.

  • @LCWS81454 ------------>I've been to the GDR myself and I know the Stassi propaganda is farce. I received more police checks and racial stereotyping in BRD compared 2 GDR. I always had a good, friendly experience in Eastern Europe, GDR included.

I am saying that EVEN ASSUMING THE PROPAGANDA WAS CORRECT, US and UK police still have stronger tabs than the stassi ever did.

GDR was a pretty cool place, except for marijuana penalties :D

  • @cws81454

"actually I am getting bored with this whole thing"

If you had the good sense not to react to insults that were never directed at you, you'd have been bored enough at the start not to begin this whole thing.

  • @cws81454

Yeah that's not my real age. I was under 18 when I made this account and lied about my age. Do you want to try and twist any other petty misunderstanding into a tepid insult?

  • @cws81454

Are you even trying? I'm 21 you tit and no longer in uni. If anyone here needs to learn English, its YOU.

  • @cws81454

    Go kiss some Stassi ass.

  • @WSWarthog ------------->Why so much hate against Stassi? Granted they weren't exactly Mother Theresas.....the Stassi had detailed record of 33 percent of population stored in files. The UK police and USA police have access to 95 percent of the population w/a simple mouse click :)

  • Well, you can't have it both ways. The wall (Mauer) is long gone. It's amazing how quickly people forget the bad times. Oh well .... so ist das Leben.

  • Comment removed

  • Already in the old times my parents with engineering-academia backgr were significantly richer, I mean cash, immobilia, cars, not travel, than the most, without being in the Stasi which was the (known) home of shunned idiots, but in the unity socialist party. Not because they like them but to have something to order, everybody knew they were anti-communits, they had some, but not much problems about that. Many of the people in prison were honorable and intelligent but mentally underprivileged.

  • While Berlin today still is relatively poor in economy, significantly under German average including villages all over, and it will never be among the strongest regions as Hamburg, Düsseldorf or Munich, in eastern Berlin the living standard was relatively high compared to other GDR parts, so that prefered or east-premium goods were in the shops much more quickly. In Leipzig as another centre where people united from Saxony and beyond the opinion always used to be bit worse about the government.

  • In my intensified opinion serious westGerman media which dominate are just up to pathecially weak with just one exception, the FAZ newspaper. I am an east German anti-communist citizen voting for the Free Democratic Party, which might on youtube be relatively rare mixed with my every day being shocked about the poor so-called serious media such as Zeit, Spiegel, which are in the end much worse than BILD (German sun) and arguable the main reason of the nostalgia. The GDR was free in tiny limits.

  • Does anyone remember the name of that German movie about a mother who comes out of comma after like 20 years, not knowing the East German communists are gone, and his kids try to make the transition easy on her by creating an ersatz East German atmosphere for her???

  • @hotboyclarence

    Goodbye Lenin

  • @Sismiques Thank you Sismiques. Is the movie posted here on Youtube?

  • @hotboyclarence

    Yes.

  • I hate the DDR with all my heart and I am so fucking glad that state has been wiped off of the face of the earth. It's just a pity the fucking OSSIS had to remain. Anyone who has nostalgia for the DDR should kill himself.

  • @WSWarthog Yet you did not live there and these people did, who is in a better position to make such radical comments? Them.

The German Democratic Republic was an amazing opportunity for a small pocket of harmony to exist, unfortunately it was rejected by capitalist countries as opposition, and destroyed.

  • @TheBenbarton

Absolute fucking nonsense!! You mean you can't have anything to say about a country unless you lived there? So nobody can condemn Pinochet unless he lived in Chile during that time, and nobody can condemn Hitler unless he lived in Germany during that time, and nobody can condemn Apartheid if he didn't live in South Africa during that time. There are matters of principal that don't respect geographic or national borders so don't throw me a line of shit.

  • @WSWarthog

My grandfather fled to west Germany from East Germany. he knows the difference and so do millions of others who Fled the inefficient East. Then again this applied to pretty much every single USSR satellite puppet state with their puppet governments, Romania, Hungary, Poland and so on Were all worse off under the USSR. The proof is in the peoples will. They voted 90% on average against any parties that supported a USSR style system when elections were finally held.

  • @WSWarthog comparing honecker with hitler is a bit wrong, dont you think!? and comparing the gdr with the third reich too... the gdr i lived in didnt kill thousands of jews and shit.. of course things got out of hand in some subjects...i have friends that went to jail for being punks (they were the first generation of punk in gdr) but later on it got tolerated, you just had to know how to bent the rules. everyone was free when they at least pretended to play by the rules. my childhood was happy.

  • @WSWarthog What do you want condemn Pinochet for? He is a man that knew what to do with fucking commies. Of course there could be some innocent victims but "krieg ist krieg" like you germans say.

  • @TheBenbarton Is that why they had to build a wall around it to keep people from RUNNING AWAY? are you guys so dillusional that you even turn off your brains for the sake of your misguided political ideology? Use the simple logic: who fled into the Communist "paradise" countries from the "rotten" capitalist ones, and how many did the reserve? And today, we have only two of the wonderful paradises left: North Korea and Cuba. Feel free to move there and enjoy Communism in its full bloom.

  • @hotboyclarence Was the wall put up to stop people running away or to prevent spies or terrorists. i agree it was inhumane to separate families but both countries had to be cautious about who they let through the gates. Every east German citizen (after Stalin) was issued with a 'Reisepass'. this is the equivalent of a passport and could be stamped by any government official to allow temporary access past the wall to see family members, deliver to other parts of Berlin or on official meetings.

  • @hotboyclarence The problem was that both governments were supervised by either the US or the USSR. These massive superpowers would often stop anybody going to their part of Germany simply to irritate the other and cause social unrest within the two halves. They told boarder guards to turn down any east German reispasses and the GDR followed suite. they now had a problem. some people from west Germany were just visiting the GDR when this happened.. (-continued-)

  • @hotboyclarence and now had no way of getting back as no person was to cross the boarder. the Soviets did not recognise Germany as two countries, nor did the US. they both insisted that all Germany belonged to them so therefore considered any citizen their citizen and their presence in the GDR or the FRD was illegal. The 1989 march to remove the wall consisted of three kinds of people. 1. west Germans stranded in the GDR. refused help by both governments, family members that had (-continued-)

  • @hotboyclarence been split apart in the division of '49, capitalists that gained from the fascist government and finally the minority were rebellious and violent teenagers who were irritated with the old fashioned ways of the GDR. the rally was small but the soviets refused to intervene as the Afghan war was taking up too many of their resources. Thus the wall fell and the Americans had their biggest piece of propaganda since the moon landing. (-continued-)

  • @hotboyclarence Cuba is a poor country due to lack of resources and the travel/trade ban by the USA, not because of communism. In actual fact socialist Cuba has better healthcare/education than the US and it also has the best general living standards in all Latin America. Try watching a neutral film that isn't propaganda such as AMERICAN DIRECTED "Comandante" it explores the good and bad bits of Cuba. you get to see what am amazing place it really is. (-continued-)

  • @hotboyclarence the DPRK or N. Korea is not communist and has never been. It was once a soviet ally but relations were halted during the sino-soviet split where china declared it's Stalinist tendencies whereas Nikita Khrushchev was in the middle of a scheme entitled de-Stalinisation. In 2005 it officially declared itself as a Juche, as opposed to the old Stalinist system and announced that the military would get priority over everything, even food!

  • @TheBenbarton Actually it's called Songun, not Juche. All in all you're right, although not everything the US says about DPRK is true.

  • @WSWarthog i think you should kill yourself for being such a creature with such fascist thoughts!

  • What a socialist bullshit being put here. I disdain people who are ready to trade their freedom for a slice of bread. BETTER DEAD THAN RED - POLAND

  • @madskiIIz how can someone enjoy its freedom when you starve your ass off?! people work their asses off nowadays and what do they get? little payment, almost slavery conditions and everything gets more and more expensive. nobody can be serious calling a life a life of freedom when you have to be scared to keep your roof over your head or to be able to feed your children! a 3 room apartment with heating, warm water kitchen furniture etc 94,65 german marks back then! .........

  • @madskiIIz .....i agree to the idea back then that prices for a roof over your head should be kept down like it also should be for bread and food in general. a place to live shouldnt be expensive as everyone needs it anyway.. nobody can say "oh ok, i dont wanna pay the 900 bucks anymore because i cant afford it, so i just quit my contract, live on the streets and go from there to work every day.".... wonderful. and this is tragic and sad that they exploit the normal needs of everyone!!!!

  • Yugoslavia was a little America for East Europe!!

  • Ridicolous, communism is rubbish and starvation !!

  • @feurzauber It's the quit opposite of what you said. Communism ashure you free health care and gives you a job. For example if your a poor idiot Capitalist you wont get a job so easily in Capitalist nations because there is barely jobs. In Communist nations you can look for a job if you can't find one the state will find the best job for you based on your abilities and school grades. If you don't have school grades you can go to school for free and state will give you fee for apartment and food

  • @SMGJohn The state does all that here does it not

  • No country existing today is a democracy. No country existing today is communist. America does NOT fit the definition of a democracy, just as the USSR did NOT fit the definition of communism. East Germany is at a disadvantage only because the media is biased towards the West.

  • @buddhasknowbest Norway is the most democratic country in the world.

  • @airHaakon Norway is TOO Democracy. It's not good with to much Democracy but it's neither good with to much Dictatorship. What we need is something in the middle like East Germany

  • @SMGJohn So why do we have the lowest number of poverty and the wealthiest and richest people in the world with free health care for everyone. Did i mention that our goverment dont keep all the money for themselfes like the GDR did.

  • @airHaakon It's not "completely" free health care in Norway as in GDR, you still have to pay to go too the dentist and still people pay lot's of taxes for this "Free health care" while in GDR the state provided everything and people only paid a small amount of taxes for the apartments

  • @SMGJohn Not if your a student. They get free dental care until they go to work where they do pay taxes but since our population earns the most money in average it doesent matter and if your poor there is a wellfair settlement so that you get an apartment which is probably bigger than the ones youll get in EG and then you get about 12-15 thousand NOK a month.

  • @airHaakon Well you still have to pay and Norway is also having high jobbless people. As well it has pretty high crime level to be a rich country it also have a high suicide and depressive level

  • @SMGJohn No acctually we have the second highest employment rates in the world behind iceland and that we have high suicide rates and depressive rates is absurd.

  • @airHaakon Really? Norway has many people who are depressive and it's crime rate is increasing. Norway is just becoming another America. which means it will be a disaster

  • @buddhasknowbest You say that GDR is so great but did you know that the suicide rate in east germany was much higher then in any democratic country. In east germany the suicide rate was 1.5 times higher then it was in west merely because of the depression that their goverment provided their population during the communist reign.Norway's suicide rate is lower then the west germanys suicide rate thus doubling the suicide rate in Norway if we sucumb to the GDR regime.

  • Long live Erich Honecker and the SED!

  • German reunification????

East Germany is still occupied by hoodlum State Poland while rest Germany becomes new Turkey, we need new Dictatorship or 2050 there is no more Germany!

    East Germany = East-Prussia, West-Prussia, East-Brandenburg, Pomerania, Silesia & Memelland!

  • That guy, East Germany was a democratic state!? If you think different and say it and you get followers, they mostly loked you up.

  • Why don't you guys see CROATIA NATO member where more and more people are joining public kitchens is that NATO they wanted. IS that a union they were striving for ???

  • oh please, nostalgia my ass. What did Erich Honecker do that was soo bad? he didnt kill millions of people, he didnt kill anyone, food was good, and education was even better. Get this capitalist brainwash out of your heads people, the system that you live in is using you!

  • @kookykoala333 By the time Erich Honecker took over , like in other communist states at the time, even the Soviet Union, the people had already been pacified by the state , so there was no need for the state to kill anyone.

  • @1middlesbrough in the times of stalin, people were willing to work for the state, he killed people because he was a crazy man

  • @kookykoala333 People work better for themselves, and only work for the state , when forced , like in most communist countries

  • @1middlesbrough I disagree, you just ONLY hear about the people who absolutely hated it, who were a minority, because why would a capitalist superpower tell you anything about the good things of an enemy system

  • @kookykoala333 So how many people in the east of Germany voted Communist in the last elections there, 5% . Its the communists who were a minority

  • @1middlesbrough problem is most people dont vote because they think they cant change anything anyway... i think just a little over a half of the people did in the recent elections if i understood that right. anyway, i know what i am talking about because i am one of them. i am not voting because all of them are the same.. they do propaganda with showing different faces but in the end its the same shit theyre doing wrong like all other parties too.. just promises, promises..and what!? nothing!

  • @1middlesbrough in the times of stalin, people were willing to work for the state, he killed people because he was a paranoid man

  • @kookykoala333 Don't forget the big thing: East Germany NEVER attacked anyone, never got involved in a war. How many countries can claim that?

  • @kookykoala333 yes, and people like you who wrote on the Youtube, would end up in the STAZI's prison for a visit, oh, a couple of years or two. Communists were soooooo GOOD. That is why all Eastern Europeans kicked them out as fast as they could. You spoiled capitalist kids with childish fantasies about the "good old" commies. Well, we still have two of them around: North Korea andCuba, You can always find the same old atmosphere of bounty there. Book a flight tomorrow, eh?

  • @hotboyclarence first of all there was no youtube during the time of east germany, youre just making biased assumptions which is ridiculous but expected from a capitalist. I'm not a child either, i'm a college educated person and I have made my own choice through history and me seeing what capitalism has done

  • @kookykoala333 "I'm not a child either, i'm a college educated person and I have made my own choice through history and me seeing what capitalism has done"

Which, admittedly, is not all good. But infinitely better than what communism has wrought.

  • @kookykoala333 Honecker was red Hitler, but I will you credit that democracy is sham

  • @kookykoala333 ...but he gave the order to shoot everyone who tried to cross the border -.- And they DID shoot many people!

  • @kookykoala333

I guess those people who tried to leave

this "paradise" shot themself, right ?

  • @kookykoala333 So what communism would be btter? PLEASSE lol NOT!@

  • @popper504 I think we need true free market capitalism and free market socialism (direct ownership of the means of production by workers without oversight by a state entity). We've never had true communism or true capitalism. The largest corporations and banks set their own rules through the IMF and WTO, just as the CCCP set its own rules. When communism and capitalism crossbreed w government, its always going to turn genocidal. Just look at the famines in the Ukraine in the 30's or Africa today.

  • haha democratic state..

  • Behind the Iron Curtain, GDR citizens were lured by a grand illusion of prosperity in the West. It was all a mirage. As the Soviet Union weakened financially, the western power elites began taking away those social and economic programs used to bribe the proles into believing in capitalism. When the USSR and the Warsaw Pact fell apart was when the bankers began the brutal raping of the Soviet estate AND the American people as well!

Nothing short of civil war against the bankers will save us.

  • @InfiniteMushroom The bankers are the new jews I heard from some so called neo-socialist...

  • @benutzer29915022 Banks and Jews have gone together for centuries. They are the vampires of the world. Only the chronic and legendary stupidity of American Christians protects the modern Jew.

  • @InfiniteMushroom Where is your Fuhrer? DEAD; ROTTEN...

That´s what all of you awaits!

The jews are also protected by the GG and the Verfassungsschutz and me, a proud citizen of the Bundesrebublik Deutschland and a defender of the Rechtsstaat!

  • @benutzer29915022 Suit yourself. Hitler's solution for the Jews was horrible but, his accusations of their activities were justified.

Today, the Zionists are free to operate as they truly are in the U.S. now. They flaunt their ill-gotten power and challenge the old corrupt Anglo-American power elite. The most vile enterprises are owned and operated by Jews in the U.S. "Der ewige Jude" left the ghetto, came to America, grew like a cancer, and now rules us through their banking mafias.

  • @InfiniteMushroom I love how all the die hard Communists on youtube always say things like "The capitalist brainwashed the people" or "It was an elaberate mirage to lure people" or "Capitalist conspiracy" when confronted with the fact that East Germany and the Soviet Union were dictatorships with little personal freedeom and low standards of living.

  • @historybuff5341 The only difference now between the U.S. and the Soviet Union at its most despotic is the DEGREE OF ENFORCEMENT of laws and regulations. ON PAPER, the U.S.A. is the MOST despotic and horrific tyranny in history.

The difference between what the globalists COULD DO vs. their restraint has arbitrage value on Wall Street in terms of social costs and fear premiums. That stimulates demand as people borrow and spend it to protect themselves from privatized tyranny and gov't tyranny

  • @historybuff5341 Absolutely correct...In Communism , an a person cannot express themselves and become and individual.... it was ruled by puppet dictators

  • @popper504 Sir, let me explain, socialism is a transitory stage to communism

in socialism, education, health and every common good was guaranted by the government and not necessarily it has to be dictatorial, for example, soviet constitution of 1918 was pretty good, and with some alterations it could be no dictatorial

  • @emmanuelmedeiros1991 Sir , let me explain , I do not want the government to guarantee me any of those things. I enjoy the way things are now. Soviet union was always a backwards ass country from day one

  • @popper504 you enjoy the way things are because they are ok to you, but think about serra leoa, senegal and other countries, 80% of the reason of poverty is caused by capitalism-parasitism

capitalism always cause poverty and disease

wake up yankee, the world is not your american-illusion-macdonalds-dream

your country and the european pigs causes much much much more deaths directly and indirectly than any communist revolution

capitalism-parasitism is the worst disease to the world!

  • @emmanuelmedeiros1991 your loss not mine

  • @emmanuelmedeiros1991 i could careless what goes on in those countries..How I live and where iu Live is great and that's all that matters to me and my family.. if you don't like capitalism , then i dunno what to tell ya.. lets everyone share the wealth...Hell no ....kiss my ass

  • @popper504 from day one? really? Seing the rates of unemployment, illiteracy and homelessness plumet, that's what happened in the begginings of the Soviet Union- I wouldn't call that backwards. That would be very progressive. The USSR may have had its downfalls in its time, but when it was first founded it was one of the best things that had happened to its people in a very long time

  • Thousands of people tried to escape from DDR because it was a corrupt intolerant evil country! So how the hell can people tell me that they miss the "Good old DDR?"

  • @jacob2800 you must be referring to dissidents and traitors of the revolution who never agreed with the practise of equality for all...so how the hell can you tell that our beloved DDR was evil and the traitors werent? FUCK THE FALL BRING BACK THE WALL!!!...GLORY TO THE PROLETARIAN!!!

  • @dpapaioannow

ONCE AGAIN 90% OF THE POPULATION HATED IT. ALSO THEY NEVER VOTED FOR THE GOVERNMENT. ITS BEEN PROVEN IT WAS SET UP BY THE SOVIETS.

Also look at all of the East European countries that were soviet satellite states, all the ruling parties had a swing on average of 90% of the total vote against them.

  • @jacob2800 also judging by your channel comments you must be some nazi racist ;)

  • I still don't see how the fact of what did happen could be ignored. People were killed and toutured. Perhaps this was not a majority of the population but the fact it happened at all is ill thinking.

I've been to the prisons, museums, don't tell me that they would go back to that to get an old bloodly car!

  • How can they lie so bluntly and say East Germany was democratic?

  • @Steely1919 may be they not lie? May be you are poorly educated moron?

  • I miss the good old days of pre-1990 West Germany.

  • At least in the East Germany the weren't any 3rd world immigration like in the West Germany. Do you wanna live in a islamofascistic country or in a national bolshevic one? Which do you think offers more freedom? True communism is about one party state(even if North Korea has requested an coperation with nationalistic parties or a brown-red front), 5 year plan(even though Lenin compromised some) and national anthem! Marx thought about coperation with equally advanced nations/peoples.

  • The Germanies should not have unified. East Germany should have found its own way without Kohl's Anschluss.

  • How quickly the East Germans forget those who were shot as they tried to scale The Wall.

  • While the DDR was nowhere as democratic as the BRD, the latter one is nowhere as democratic as Switzerland is.

  • DDR was a social state. It was better that BDR from many points of view. But nowaday Germany is a social state, too. As long as the schooling is free and the unemployment is small, it is a better state than USA or UK

  • I have to agree with most of the interviewees on the video. The DDR at one time was a stable, secure country. The most prosperous in the Warsaw Pakt. Yes, we had the Stasi and the old hard-line Stalinists in the SED...but we learned to appreciate one another and not be pawns to capitalists who are now ravaging our land. I do miss certain things like going to Pionierpark when I was in FDJ. As we say in JP ( Pioniere Ernst Thalmann): "SEID BEREIT" mein Genossen!

  • @4everRomanovs Maybe you can answer his, been trying to find out all day. If life was not all bad in East Germany, why was it neccesary to build a wall to keep people from leaving and why would so many still risk trying to get beyond that wall? I just watched Night Crossing in hopes of finding out, and other than the Stossi, cramped apartments, and a piece of fruit appearing in short supply, life didn't seem too bad even from a pessimistic movie.

  • @scrappmutt2 it was necessary to build the Wall in 1961 because the DDR was losing its major workforce to the West. If it went unchecked, then the DDR would have totally collapsed and the Soviets once again occupy. Because of the Wall we became isolated from Western decadence and corruption. We had very little crime, no drug problem, free medical care, free child care, plenty of jobs and solidarity. A lot of people became disolusioned by it all because of influences from the West.

  • @4everRomanovs Simple clean answer, sort of failed logic only a government would come up with (force people to stay instead of making it worth their while to stay or incentivising them to stay), but thanks.

  • @scrappmutt2 But it worked! We eventually became the most prosperous and productive country in Warsaw Pakt. When the Wall fall in 1989, I was there. The people were told that they could return to DDR anytime or they could stay in WEst with no criminal charges to them or family. 8 out of 10 people came back because they wanted to. The others were malcontents and they stay in West.

  • @scrappmutt2 If you don't mind, how did everything work? was there competition and buisness, or everything state managed? Did people own their own shops, decide on their own what to do, how much to charge, who to deal with, etc? were people able to choose where to live or what kind of house to build, or were they all forced into apt.? Was everyone paid the same wage, and what of those who didn't want to work? Were you able to start your own buis? I know it's loaded ?, but id like to know

  • @TranshumanCyborg I disagree. Capitalism is entering its slash and burn phase. There are nothing left to securitize and leverage into infinite levels of debt. The fictitious and derived claims against the original equities are beyond calculation. Even the passage of laws was securitized and leveraged because law-making created liabilities which created cash flows, albeit destructive and parasitic. Our freedoms have long ago been sold and the bankers are demanding our labors or our deaths.

  • Ugh. I miss the DDR and the rest of the Cold War as well, but for very different reasons. In just twenty years' time, we have now begun to forget the very things our parents and grandparents had spent 40 long years fighting against, undoing all the hard work and sacrifice they did to secure our freedoms and liberties. If it had gone on for at least another decade, perhaps we would better appreciate the meaning of freedom.

  • The problem is that in the capitalist world, democracy is taken to mean capitalism, and freedom refers to the privileges of the capitalists to exploit everyone else.East Germany was free, but free for the workers, oppressive for the capitalist exploiters.

  • @SEFARAD2K4 Was more homogenous society too. Very few Foreigners then.

  • @SEFARAD2K4 and free for party cronies instead, hahaha

  • @SEFARAD2K4 Workers were not free, they were owned by the state, Lenins words not mine

  • @SEFARAD2K4 Sure, as capitalist exploiters were the millions of russian and ucranian farmer murdered by famine in the "land of socialism", surely I WILL THINK that you are right and you shitty comment is nothing related with red propaganda, is funny see how you, the marxist, twist is own history trying to overlap and hide is atrocities commited agains that "working people" that supposedly you protected!!!!

  • In My opinion, we are all enslaved by the same rulers. They change dress, simply. DDR was an evident dictatorship with the advantage that they got you food, school, and medic assistance, in exchange for your freedom. Capitalism is also enslaving us to the law of the profit. we are all reduced to the value of numbers and banknotes. That is always the same (D)Evil

  • im sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo glad im not in germany

  • Totally agree with MrHistoryman. History is written by the victors, and also, by those who control the media i.e those that are most threatened by socialism. The GDR had many positive features which should not be overlooked

  • I'd rather worry about finding something to eat than have to look over my shoulder all the time.

  • East Germany a Democratic state?,,, yeah my ASS, why did they had to put a big ass wall with electric fences and armed guards watching and killing those who wanted to leave that great "utopia".

    Don't make me laught.

  • @hubergeek Just because your Democratic doesn't mean your free, there are some pretty fucked up Democracies to

  • So why want people get out when the wall falls ???

  • The thing that you hear from some Germans that there is still is an invisible wall dates back from 1989 to 1990. Why? Well, when you have grown up with ideals and traditions and suddenly all that changes within a year its all too quick to fast. IN the GDR they had to sacrfice a lot of socialist services they provided for years for the free market system. In West Germany, you had to share the prosperous economy with the GDR.It was a lot of give and take, sacrifice, and the fear of the unknown.

  • We should not forget who created the partition of germany and the so called GDR. The soviet union or nowadays the Russians. Against russian colonization!

  • @rgthsk Fuck you, propagandist peace of shit. The USA planned to turn Germany into an agricultural nation, but it was too important economically and politically so they attacked East Germany instead. Soap was put into powdered milk destined for schools and explosives were placed on the railway bridge between Moscow and Berlin, but they were discovered in time. And one group was arrested with poison to make poisoned cigarettes for East German leaders. After countless of such incidents like this

  • @HelenaXVI well thats your opinion , i have a different one. Please don't insult people if you do not like their opinion. that should not be a reason.

  • @rgthsk Well, I'm sorry I called you names, I should unlearn that. But you don't have to spread hate and say stupid things like "Against Russian colonization". That won't get us anywhere.

  • @HelenaXVI well i was a bit harsh with that comment. however, my purpose was never to spread hate. anyhow all that is history and we should look forward, from that point i agree with you, greetings

  • @rgthsk The USSR and GDR complained to the UN and the GDR was forced to tighten access restrictions from the West.

Americans also engaged in a campaign to drain professionals and skilled workers to weaken the GDR. This caused an economic crisis which eventually led to the building of the Berlin Wall.

So learn some historical facts before you parrot your stupid US propaganda, fool.

  • I don't know what they asked in that study with the children (tiny indications in the wording can largely influence a result), but I disagree with the suggested tenor that a majority of us East Germans consider the GDR as a better state than today's Germany. Transfiguration of history isn't a mass phenomenon. When from people talk about something in the past that has been good or more often about problems in the present, it doesn't mean that they'd actually prefer things to be like before 1989.

  • What I always sorta fancied to think about and still do was how the west always tried to portray BERLIN as the worst "eastern" part in East Germany while East Berling today has the highest turnout for the old communist party (Die Linke) in the whole of Germany. Kinda funny how propaganda and truth can be so far apart. Also funny how despite being the same people the two sides of the city still vote so differenty. Clearly the soviet propaganda wasn't that bad neither.

  • if nazi simbols were banned in Germany comunism simbols should be baned to !!!

  • @mrpsp91 I totally agree with you. Communism symbol should be banned too. What surprises me is that nowaday nazism is completely tabu and definetely regarded as a horrific ideology, which i totaly support. However, communism even 20 years after the end of the communism regimes in europe is still seen mainly western european countries as an ideology to adopt or accept. communism has killed 100 million people in the last century, how can even one person still talk about communism?

  • @rgthsk Capitalism had killed hundreds of millions throughout the centuries, let's ban the US flag then.

  • @mrpsp91 one reason why maybe in western europe, communism is still accepted and we still have even some communism parties in the government as for example France which has even communist deputies in the government, is that the KGB at the time of the soviet union made a lot of propaganda here in western europe. We should not forget that the french communist and also british ones were working closely with moscow.Im sure that the russians influenced those countries through their educational system.

  • @rgthsk the russians had kgb agents everywhere ... and they also had many politicians in East Europe that worked for them .

And the soviets after the end of ww2 had used some concentration camps themselvs !

So communism is evil to .... but you know many comunist politicians wich were in charge 20 years ago today they are still in politics .

  • East German was a Stalinist dictatorship. There was no socialist democracy and all political parties were slaves to the ''National Front of Democratic Germany''.

But there were good things about the GDR. Free healthcare and no fear of losing your lob. Stalinism with all its totalitarian bureaucratic limitations was the reason why the state failed in 1989.

I understand why some Germans want the GDR back. But that will not bring them socialism. Socialism needs democracy, otherwise it fails.

  • They are reeducating the population to accept a new international socialism. Just as they are doing here in USA.

  • It is not surprising to hear that many (if not most people) in Eastern Germany think that the GDR had many benefits: no unemployment and much more social justice. People feel betrayed after having heard so many empty promises from all the capitalist politicians. I hope that with the growing support of leftist parties in the East, people could reintroduce some of the social laws people used to have in the good old GDR!

  • @espero09 or maybe even steadily establish a united GDR, i mean that could really work!!

  • @espero09 oh yes. We liked thier eugenics laws and the ghettos and antigun laws that made it easy to round up Jewish people.

  • In 1999 my parents rented an apartment. There was no TV, no entertainment. The only thing that was - a cupboard. In the cupboard were things the previous owners. Among these things - a letters from the GDR (the daughter previos owners corresponded with a German girl). Thus began my love for Germany and the nostalgia for the GDR.
