  • a fair catch is 2 waves, he only waved once.

  • @555doss

    LOL no

  • stupid game

  • Agreed with UdReks, UConn was had in 2 calls I remember, 2 fumbles if I remember correctly. One was on the punt where the ball was clearly 110% touched and UConn fell on it on the 1 yard line (essentially a TD) and then there was another fumble if I remember correctly where the player was ruled down. The refs really failed in this game.

  • cheater

  • It actually was ILLEGAL. So much so that the back judge was disciplined for not stopping it and not flagging it. What he did is considered an "invalid fair catch signal". Such a signal has the same effect as a valid signal, i.e. ball is dead when possessed but the returner does not get fair catch protection.

  • sorry but that was completely legal he didnt signal for a fair catch he just put his arm up he even talked to the official before the play and asked if that was ok

  • I'm sorry, but you are wrong. Yes, he talked to the ref before the play and the ref said he had to put his hand all the way up high to signal a fair catch, but the ref was wrong. Taylor knew he was bending the rules to trick the defenders and it was wrong of him. The actual rule is that any hand gesture, any hand gesture at all, even if it is not a valid fair catch signal results in the ball being dead where it is touched. The only difference is that he can be tackled if he botches the signal.

  • Uconn sucks balls

  • Big East refs still owe Louisville a make up call for that one.

Despite what U-Con fans claim, the correct call was made on the so-called "muffed punt". Never touched our player.

  • This was just a bad crew all together... blind leading the blind. Atleast the one offical doesn't work for the BEast anymore!

  • And your coach waa wrong...A player can be flagged for a late hit even if there was no whistle, i.e. runner goes out of bounds and official forgets to blow whistle. Hitting the out of bounds player is a foul.

  • clearly this woman is retarted, dont you all remember when your coach use to tell you play till you hear a whistle, regardless if it was fair catch or not you play the game until you here a whistle

  • yeah that was a fair catch. The player even paused then started to run.

  • THATS NOT FAIR

  • That was bullshit. 1 more win and Louisville would have had a bowl bid.

  • Well, this catch had nothing to do with that. The refs stripped UConn of 10 points later in the game. They had a fumble recovery at the 1 inch line that was overruled, and a FG was also taken away.

  • I hate Louisville but that was an awful call. I was watching that live when it happened. That gave UConn an extra win that they didn't deserve.

  • Wrong. It did not. UConn recovered a fumble for a TD and that call was blown. if you're going to give Louisville 7 points then you have to give UConn 7 points for blown calls as well. If you actually watched the game, you know what I am talking about.

  • i almost had a heart-attack when this happened. i was so mad

  • The fair catch signal, as defined in NCAA Football, requires the player to wave one or two hands above his head, and across his body more than once. The player in this clip waved his hand, but did not go across his entire body more than once. Therefore, the two options available to the officials are: invalid fair catch signal, or no call. The officials chose the no call, and the ball was live. An invalid fair catch signal would have deadened the ball.

  • you can't wave two hands. It's invalid.

  • "No Call" is not an option. Any more than not calling an offsides or a personal foul is an option.

Because the player did not wave his hand across his body more than once, it is an invalid fair catch signal penalty. There is no other option.

And because he ran the ball despite the penalty, it is also a delay-of-game.

And this scumbag tried it again later in the season, too.

  • who cares that is a retarded rule that no one knew until that day

  • Dude I dont care what you say or any RULE! That was a FAIR CATCH, but I guess you were born BLIND! Are you could be a ref defending another ref! Its not the first time a obvious bad call was made against LOUISVILLE that changed the game. Watch the 2005 West Virginia game against LOUISVILLE on the onside kick INTERFERANCE that was called but then overturned. But the FIRST call was right. Is it me or do the refs not want LOUISVILLE doing well, is somebody paying them to make these calls?

  • In this very game, there were huge bad calls that were made in Louisville's favor, like the blown UConn fumble recovery at the one inch line.

  • ha that was funny

  • Disregard my last statement.

  • "UCONN FAIR CATCH"

    Fair??? You are clearly incorrect.

  • wtf!!! I wish I had been watching that game!!

  • I'm amazed Uconn is in the top 25. I simply can't believe that uconn did this. And in reality, they lost to Temple too. simply amazing

  • see that monkey laughing afterwards? No wonder everyone hates them

  • Christmas came early for UConn.

  • Imagine that, an NCAA football referee blowing a call; I thought it was just NFL refs that were incompetent but I guess not

  • why can't that be reviewed?

  • it would have been a penaltie (illegal fair catch signal) making it non- reveable

  • No penalty for invalid fair catch signal anhd no such thing as illegal fair catch signal. It was an invalid signal and ball should have been dead when caught

  • As a neutral fan of an ACC team, I hope every BE team that U-CON plays lays this kid out....that's just unfair to talk to "play mind-games" with the defenders so that your pathetic team can score a TD...If it's legal, then why doesn't every other big school do it?

  • If that guy isn't a senior. If I was a Louisville player, I would lay a cheap shot on his ass next year in the game. Hopefully he is returning punts next year and signals a fair catch. I would knock his ass out of the game.

  • I'm not a fan of either team, but there has to be an asterisk next to this win. All you UConn homies trying to defend it are just in denial. Your team isn't that good. You haven't beaten anybody good... You have to apologize for wins over both Temple and Louisville, two bad teams, and you lost to a mediocre Virginia team. Don't even talk about BCS, you don't deserve it.

  • to all who are bashing uconn, maybe you should pick up a rule book...look it up for yourself, in college football you must wave your hand back and forth to signal a fair catch. if you look closely, larry only waves his hand once, therefore it should not have been a fair catch anyway, thanks.

  • and you should read all of the rules because uconn is still wrong. it says a valid or invalid fair catch signal kills the ball if caught. it also says the only valid signal is the back and forth wave more than once over the head, whatever. so in other words the only way to advance the ball is to give no signal whatsoever before catching. since you're agreeing that he did indeed give a signal that was not valid, the ball should've been dead.

  • Well you still can't advance the ball if you give an invalid fair catch signal. You guys should stick to basketball of you're not going to learn the football rules. The fair catch is there to protect punt returners, but if UCONN wants to piss on the fair catch rule, fine. Their opponents will just level their punt returners on fair catches from now on.

  • Your stupid remarks would just be stupid except for the fact now someone may get injured because of your cheating players!!!

  • i'm with alot of people on this one, i honestly hope this kid gets his head taken off the next time he drops back for a punt return, no 2nd guessing it

  • jk lol

  • no, he was waving a a fan and he said hello. it wasnt a fair cach singnal.

  • wow. i wouldn't be surprised if he gets railed every time from here on out on punt returns, fair catch signal or not.

  • Anone else notice the web address for this video ends in "fag"? Hmmmmmm, coincidence?

  • Check out with this guy said, a quote from Louisville Courier-Journal...

"Regardless, it gets worse. After the game, Taylor told The Hartford Courant, 'I talked to the official right before the play ... and he said I had to get my hand high up in the air so he could see it. ... I didn't really put my hand up. I was just playing a mind game with the defender.' "

  • I hope Uconn's next opponent lays this guy out on a "fair catch" punt, step up USF.

  • If the Louisville players tackled him, they would have received a 15 yard penalty. They literally were placed into a no win position. This type of nonsense is going to get someone hurt if defenders ignore the fair catch sign and start leveling people because the refs let them get away with it. Hopefully, Taylor will be the first and most frequent kick returner to get that treatment.

Tell the kicker, "high and short, high and short". Then crush him.

  • the kid should not have run when he called a fair catch but the officials are the nimrods here. What the heck where they thinkin?

  • Wow, from the camera angle I originally saw I wasn't sure if his hand was above his head but in this clip it definitely shows it was.

    Cheap and wrong.

  • I don't have any affiliation with either of these teams, but it amazes me that this guy seems so proud of himself. He's just really embarrassed his school on a national level and makes them all look like undisciplined cheaters.

  • I know I was embarrassed when my team won Friday night. Downright ashamed.

It doesn't make it the right call, but it also doesn't make it UConn's fault. Blame the officials.

  • actually johnman88, it wasnt uconn's fault.. until ur lil fucker larry taylor started cheesin on the sideline like the lil bitch he is!

  • Horrible horrible error on the officials, and unbelievable lack of sportsmanship on the part of the uconn return man. Stick with basketball, uconn. This is a good example why football isn't your game.

  • That's what PUSSYS do. That is one of the most COWARDLY things I've seen on a football field and UConn fans sit around and wonder why they're not ranked at 6-1. They wonder why nobody respects their PUSSY team.

  • you can't review it because there was nothing called. and if you look up the definition of a fair catch in the rule books as the announcers did during the game it is defined as raising an arm above the head and waiving back and forth which the return man didn't do. but it did look like he intentionally tried to mislead the defense into thinking it was a fair catch especially when he's on the sidelines laughing about it.

  • And if Louisville would have laid him out after he caught that ball, I guarantee you there would have been multiple flags thrown.

  • NCAA rules state that even if a player makes an invalid signal, he still cannot advance the ball once he catches it.

  • To all UConn fans. I hope you are sickened by the lack of sportsmanship and the flat out cheating that your thug return man resorted to on Friday night. BTW, yes, the UL punt team should have clocked this thug as soon as he took off running, but that has nothing to do with the fact that he flat out cheated and told the refs he was going to do so, and they didn't know the rules enough to penalize the play!!! Classy UConn. Classy.

  • It wasn't cheating. I'm not a UConn fan, but they got away with one. It's like a high school team calling the "Wrong Ball" play or a basketball team doing the play where a kid gets down on all fours and barks like a dog to distract the other team. It's not necessarily clean and sportsmanlike, but it's not much worse than any trick play.

  • but retepadam, can a "down on all fours and bark like a dog" really hurt somebody?

  • Wonder why that is not reviewable.

  • Those officials should be fired. This call ( no-call rather ) is the worst I have ever seen.

  • Not only was this a terrible, terrible call, but it sure sets a bad precedent. Should a coach tell his players to take the fifteen yards rather than allow a touchdown if they're not sure? It's rediculous. Terrible call.

  • only comic book guy can describe this with enough justice: worst. call. ever!
