  • This could be a Gin Blossoms song with a different sound/arrangment, which is a compliment to both bands, imo. I listed Metallica and QR as the only two heavy bands that would emerge from the 80's with wide success and influence, and that was in about 86. I missed it slightly. I think FW and Megadeth are arguably more important on that list, although Metallica has greater comm'l success, obviously. Fates Warning, despite a few clunkers, have been consistently good to great songwriters. Love 'em

  • Just a great song from my all time favourite band! The drums, the guitars and the vocals are just fantastic! Great mixing!

  • @Rampageofthesouth Terry Brown from RUSH fame enigineered/produced this album.

  • Fates Warning > Beethoven

  • @CBFHVP Ridiculous. Two greats from different times. That's apples vs oranges. However, I do like FW better than Dream Theater.

  • The pioneers... with Queensryche! A must!

  • Best track on the disc.

As for the rest of the discussion around here: DT, FW and QR all have their strenghts and weaknesses. DT has two albums in top form and all the rest. QR is similar, although they have a vocal giant in Tate that none (except maybe Dickinson) can match. Both have additional quality songs scattered through their catalogs.

FW has more top tier songs than either scattered through more albums. Jim Matheos is brilliant but inconsistent. The OSI project reflects this.

  • @MartinAlvito ooc: which 2 dt albums are you referring to?

  • How wonderfull music these guys are producing from the beginning till now...its amazing how talented they are...!!!

  • For me the point of a band is to write great records not try to impress me technically i mean if that happens so be it. These guys are great Kings X too....much to overlooked.

  • @fleafarteasy "For me the point of a band is to write great records not try to impress me technically..." The operative phrase there is "for me". Each person is different and listens to music for different reasons. In recent years, I find technical excellence moves me more than simple hooks and power chords. To each their own.

  • Fates Warning writes songs. Dream Theater writes solos.

  • Queensryche + talent = Fates Warning

  • Fates Warning and Queensryche..both are great bands but Queensryche doesn't have epic masterpiece albums like awaken the gaurdian and no exit.

  • @CrushJehovah Excuse me???? What about Rage for Order, Operation Mindcrime and last but not least the evergratefull EP? I think you missed something here... FW is a great band with epic CD's, but QR has them to...

  • while i love fates...not so much on dream, queensryche are the gods of prog hard rock metal...who the hell can dispute the warning, rage for order and mindcrime, goeffs voice, degarmo, wilton, rockenfield and eddie j....queensryche opened the door for these bands, just like rush and pink floyd and yes opened the door for queensryche. cmon, give credit where credit is due! oh ya and major props to savatage...awesome!

  • great to name Savatage here! ;)

  • but not in a way that I had ever heard before. I was introduced to progressive rock/metal without knowing what it was, with the added bonus of a rock opera (Operation Mindcrime). So.....the point, I think, in all my ramblings is that we should move foward passed the "competing" of these bands and on with the listening, loving, rocking, jamming and the joy it gives to us all. Peace to you all

(P.S.) Don't get me started on why I think Pink Floyd blows them all out of the water. LOL

  • Each for their own relavence in my life. Skills alone, I think MOST musicians would say DT wins the race. However, Geoff Tate is 5 x's + the singer James LaBrie has been or will EVER be. Also even tho DT is more technically proficient, Fates Warning moves me emotionally. I remember noticing that when I was watching Ray sing at the concert, I was smiling ear to ear but tears were rolling down my cheeks. Then there's Queensryche overall, they were the most awesome band I had heard in the 80's....

  • Wow....passion! I love it. Now come on some of you, these guys in DT, Queensryche and Fates Warning are friends, they are ALL equally worthy of much praise reguarding their impressive display of skill and versatility. No need to have odds with each other over personal preference, nor is there a need to put down another one as less superior than the other. I am happy to see that there are such passionate people about the bands I truly love. They ALL hold their own individual space within me.

  • they are good because they use their metal skills in a manner that doesnt conform to metal, write songs that kick ass and move you, dont try to copy whats been done, its cool to learn other bands songs but its better to create your own. thats what i get from fates warning

  • love the melody on the intro

  • There are no words to explain...Fates are by far superior to all their counterparts theater,Queensryche etc...they have prooven that..and too bad they never had the attention they deserve..we love them..!!!!!

  • theyre good buddy, but saying better than queensryche is pushing it....

  • FW is awesome but c'mon dude--far superior to DT? Surely you jest.

  • Love this guitar solo!

  • This album released in "Q Sound" was simply spellbinding with headphones on!!!!

  • I studied for my final high school exams while listening to Fates Warning's music. This stuff makes me want to cry, man, because it's a like a time machine that takes me to a home far away. Brilliant.

  • @hirodash2112 Iwas in exactly the same position... your comment brought just tears in my eyes

  • @hirodash2112 same experience :)

  • @hirodash2112 awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

  • I was fortunate enough to see the Fates Warning, Queensryche and Dream Theater show. It was a dream concert for me. I thought my wife was joking when she told me. I was able to meet Geoff Tate who was an awesomely humble individual. He shook my hand firm and look me in the eyes when he talked to me. Unlike James LaBrie who looked passed us as he signed the cd cover for us. Also EdBass and Michael Milton. Also met the lead guitaris for Fates Warning and I cant remember his name right now. Bad me

  • I rarely envy anyone, but right now ...dude i wish I could have been there, sounds truly like a night to remember!

  • great band! i'm proud being on one earth with those musicians!!!

  • My thoughts exactly!

  • Great song, awesome album start to finish

  • hell yeah a great song , great album awesome band remember a few yrs back they openend for Deam Theatre an Queensryche

  • that's a dream line-up

I didn't get a chance to see it did you?

  • aw man! that must had been an awesome concert!

  • Awesome! Good to hear. Just ordered this CD for $4.99 on Amazon, as I couldn't find it in any stores. I also own the special edition of No Exit. Cool cover by Hugh Syme, who did most of the Rush covers. Terry Brown, who also produced Rush, produced this CD

  • Great to find my favourite Fates warning's song on you tube. Mark Zonder is one of the best drummers ever. His drums serve as imagery in sound. Exquisite.

  • Exactly; he's proficient- something that "heart" musicians fail to ever become, hence their derisive comments.

  • dos dos tu mama que no la entiendas es otro pedo jaaj y fates es una de las mejores bandas en su genero con algo realmente elevado en letra y musica

  • dos dos la rola
