Dude, sorry to say it... But Jeeps suck balls. Last good Jeep was made in the late 70's. The only Jeeps worth a crap now-a-days is a Rubicon. And still they blow U-joints, differentials, and transfercases like it's going out of style.
Have had my Grand Cherokee since 05 and not one single problem with it and i take it off roading quite a bit and done some stuff i should never have thought of doin with a stocker and not one problem with it at all. I'm basing my OPINION off of the (on average) 2-3 Jeeps we get per month at the shop I manage... All with similar problems. I'm not saying they are garbage, I respect them and what they have done for the 4x4 industry, I'm just saying that there are much better platforms to start with other than a Jeep. In my OPINION I think the best thing they have going for them is the 4.0L HO straight-6. Great engine, too bad it's in a Chrysler.

All those things could be put into any offroader. When you go into the big leagues it doesn't matter what it did stock, hell you're going to end off building a tube frame crawler anyway if you really want to compete. As for my FJ comment, I was talking about the FJ40... Which is why I compared it to the CJs... I see what you're saying. If I was interested in getting something stock for offroading it would be a Land cruiser from the looks of it. The I6 is reliable but I just don't like them, down to their sound even. I don't care too much where a car is made just as long as I like it for whatever reason, whether it be reliabilty or something unique like the 911's RR platform. As for off-roaders, I haven't been in that scene since my cj5, but I might jump into an older land cruiser come spring.
Land cruisers don't have lockers either (atleast not the 78 or 80 as far as I know).
And anyway, who wants the annoyance of lockers in anything but a purpose built offroader and then you might as well go with a full spool. Also, if you want either it doesn't matter what car you want, they don't cost more then $600 and a monkey could install them.
ALL Land Cruisers have optional lockers, even my 2007 100 series has lockers and I bought it in America, the Land Cruiser is designed to take on the world so it has the best traction solution availible(few would argue),ive taken Cruisers all over the world and I own 13 of them, they are truly the best vehicle ever produced. While they dont go fast or look pretty they WORK and they never let you down.

You must realize that the US makes up 3%of Toyotas priority so you can amagine how little the US means to their buisness, you are correct in that the 200 series cruiser doesnt have lockers from factory, other countries it does but not in the US. However if you wanted to you could easily get lockers for a 200 series in the US, you have to know who to talk to. Navara 2.5 TD is the most powerful diesel ute (over 400nm) sold in our country (australia, we are big on utes) and for consecutive years D40 has won 4x4 ute of the year 2006 2007 and i have not checked who won 2008, but odds are good for winning again. Hilux has a mere 2.25 tonne towing capacity and a gutless 340nm 3.0 turbo diesel with a 5 speed manual. Sorry but the navara is just the superior package, as long as u can live with airbags that deploy too slowly. my bad hilux has lockin diff also

When you go into the big leagues it doesn't matter what it did stock, hell you're going to end off building a tube frame crawler anyway if you really want to compete. As for my FJ comment, I was talking about the FJ40... Which is why I compared it to the CJs... I don't even acknowledge the new FJCruiser, I did have my eye on a 1974 fj40 though but I don't like the 3.9 I6s in them, which is mostly borrowed tech from a chevy engine btw ;)

yes but the fact that a stock cruiser can keep up with a buggy and still retain its on road amenitees is quite an incredible thing.
and for the I6s...I own 6 FJ40s with them in it and they are slow and loud and...slow BUT they dont die, they just keep going and going something other I6s dont do. The way I see it is ill buy an American car when they make them as well as a Jap car, if I must rely on a car for my survival it will be a Toyota Land Cruiser

I see what you're saying. If I was interested in getting something stock for offroading it would be a Land cruiser from the looks of it. The I6 is reliable but I just don't like them, down to their sound even. I don't care too much where a car is made just as long as I like it for whatever reason, whether it be reliabilty or something unique like the 911's RR platform. As for off-roaders, I haven't been in that scene since my cj5, but I might jump into an older land cruiser come spring.

Land cruisers don't have lockers either (atleast not the 78 or 80 as far as I know).
And anyway, who wants the annoyance of lockers in anything but a purpose built offroader and then you might as well go with a full spool. Also, if you want either it doesn't matter what car you want, they don't cost more then $600 and a monkey could install them.

ALL Land Cruisers have optional lockers, even my 2007 100 series has lockers and I bought it in America, the Land Cruiser is designed to take on the world so it has the best traction solution availible(few would argue),ive taken Cruisers all over the world and I own 13 of them, they are truly the best vehicle ever produced. While they dont go fast or look pretty they WORK and they never let you down.

i when to the us toyota website there is no optional front or even a rear locker avilible,just a locker in the center(2009) so i wouldn't really be bragging about that!

RR06sc hadnt heard from you in a while how ya been? You must realize that the US makes up 3%of Toyotas priority so you can amagine how little the US means to their buisness, you are correct in that the 200 series cruiser doesnt have lockers from factory, other countries it does but not in the US. However if you wanted to you could easily get lockers for a 200 series in the US, you have to know who to talk to. Im in the process of ordering a 2009 78 series cruiser from Oz,PTO,lockers,snork and AC

Can see you have never been on a 4X4 course, we were on a similar track a couple of weeks ago and we tried to walk up the slope to check it out before driving up, couldn't do it, kept sliding down! The camera angle makes it look way flatter than it really is

Navara 2.5 TD is the most powerful diesel ute (over 400nm) sold in our country (australia, we are big on utes) and for consecutive years D40 has won 4x4 ute of the year 2006 2007 and i have not checked who won 2008, but odds are good for winning again. Hilux has a mere 2.25 tonne towing capacity and a gutless 340nm 3.0 turbo diesel with a 5 speed manual. Sorry but the navara is just the superior package, as long as u can live with airbags that deploy too slowly. my bad hilux has lockin diff also
