Poland is a great country with wonderful tradition and culture. They've had a history of invasions and as a result Poles have contributed a lot in other countries namely the US. I never heard of Tadeusz Kościuszko, it's interesting. I'm not very familiar with polish history. I know Poland-Lithuania was a large territory, and little by little, Russia Prussia & Austria took pieces until they took the whole country.

So, there's a dichotomy where Americans are seen as imperialistic and interested in you and your affairs while in actuality, Americans on the whole couldn't care less about Poland. Now, I do know some pretty well versed people when it comes to current affairs, people who would scratch their heads in disbelief at what I'm talking about, but on a whole, compared to the Britain I grew up in, where half of the news was always about other countries and where the people I knew were always offering their not-so-qualified opinions about USA and other European countries, we just don't care about what goes on outside of our borders.

Having been brought up in Scotland and England, living there for 25 years, and then living in USA for 12 years, I probably have somewhat of a unique perspective. As early as 1607, Polish immigrants came to the United States and rescued the Jamestown settlement. Unlike the English settlers in Jamestown, the Poles knew how to farm and construct buildings. More than anything, Poles have earned a reputation for being hard workers. This is pretty much the highest compliment in American English.

This film is ridiculous. I am Polish, I live in Warsaw. Where did they find those guys???? It is obvoius that the owners of the big buildings are predominantly international corporations. Nothing wrong with that - happens everywhere in the world. The visa situation is somewhat ugly - well, we gonna withdraw from Iraq pretty soon anyway. :)

it's all about the race, THE ONLY Slavic country that is in visa waiver program is Slovenia (and they are not typical Slavic country as well) strangely every Germanic and Hispanic country in the Europe is in the Waiver program. USA is afraid of Slavs, they see them as barbarians and its due to superstition and plain ignorance (something that USA is famous for). For USA there is no EU, there is Slavic Europe (Eastern) and Germanic (Western).

I am happy to see that at least life is improving for the Poles. I always remember "Solidarity!" and Lech Wałęsa, and how he inspired many folks around the world.

Poles still come here in droves and we welcome them. I can see them wanting to be closer to home, but people will go where they want to go. Other places are more atractive than Poland right now and that is why so many are leaving for higher wages and more opportunity. Good luck with your future, since you are going to need it. Most Brits I know think of Poles as we think about many of our Mexicans.

Why would Poles emigrate so far to US if they got plenty of work in western EU. It's stupid thinking. They want to visit their families in US. What's more, situation in Poland is much better now, and people are starting to come back from western EU becouse they earned the money they wanted. They'll invest in Poland and earn bigger money here.

Yalta did not give Stalin control of the Eastern European countries. He was already there and to go against reality would have been another hot war that would have killed and destroyed even more of Poland and Eastern Euuope. There was no good choice and we trusted Stalin to do the right thing, and he didn't.
