why are people argueing over a show. Who cares if its got worse over the years every show does. When you watch it carfully, you see, that a good reason for a new Opening was not only the HD part: But also that many characters have changed in their style since Season 2. And: The CG-Parts are quite cool... they are even a little bit to good, shape lines while camera movements...
Marge is so ugly in the old intro! I like both intros. I think the new intro is to show that simpsons has been with the world for 24 years, so they have to follow the changes the world did. Everything is HD now :3
My main complaint with the new opening is how they try to force so many gags into a short opening. I mean things like the opening sky gag, the billboard gag, Barts chalkboard gag, Lisa's sax gag, the couch gag, etc.
I like how Bart skates past well known Simpson characters, and the gag with Marge/Maggie honking the horn and waking up Grandpa, but that's about it. Otherwise, the old one was better.

No. The reason I hate the new one is that the animation is unbelievably dull, and the characters are so rigid and stiff. The old animation was much more fluid and expressive, and took more advantage of the unique, goofy designs. Little flourishes like Marge's hair swooshing around as her head turns, or Homer's face scrunching as he scowls in the car----all replaced with what might as well be cardboard cutouts.
I do like how they managed to get the timings spot on, despite the extra stuff going on in it, but the new CGI feels very soulless. Hand drawn most of the way (little bits of CG? Sure. But I don't want the entire show to be CG. That's new Futurama's turf. Pretty sure old Futurama was still hand drawn (with the exception of the Galaxy Express ship models. Still, they handled some pretty impressive CG effects, so I'll provide an exception.)

Actually, no. It's still hand-drawn, but since 2002 it's been COLORED digitally. The drawings are scanned into the computer, colored, and composited with the backgrounds.
Animated shows gradually stopped using cels and switched to digital color during the 90s, but Simpsons was one of the last ones to do so (I think THE last was Ed Edd n' Eddy).
The wording matters, though. There's a big difference between "computer animation" (Shrek, Toy Story) vs. drawn animation with digital color. I point it out because for some reason there is a LOT of ignorance about animation, even on the most basic level. The #1 thing you hear is "Oh, isn't it all done by computers now?" Notice it's not "with" computers, it's "BY" computers. They actually think the computer does it itself. An astonishing number of people think this. SMH.

I think at 0:30 in the new opening, they should've retraced the old animation of Marge's reaction into the new opening, instead of her Flash-animation nodding and smiling, but they could maybe keep in the Maggie vs. Gerald bit (but animate it better)
Yeah, the first time I saw the part where Maggie shakes her fist at Gerald, I was shocked. I couldn't believe how low the standards had dropped. It's amazing that they put that scene on the air looking like that. They should have been embarassed to air something that looked like something a lazy high school student did in AfterEffects on a Saturday evening.

I still have faith that Matt is going to realize what we don't like, and end those things so simpsons can still retain its former glory. IE: overcrowded celbrity refrences (and appearances), too many mysteries that characters are discovering, Lisa slowly becoming a brat, ect.

No. The reason I hate the new one is that the animation is unbelievably dull, and the characters are so rigid and stiff. The old animation was much more fluid and expressive, and took more advantage of the unique, goofy designs. Little flourishes like Marge's hair swooshing around as her head turns, or Homer's face scrunching as he scowls in the car----all replaced with what might as well be cardboard cutouts.

I do like how they managed to get the timings spot on, despite the extra stuff going on in it, but the new CGI feels very soulless. Hand drawn most of the way (little bits of CG? Sure. But I don't want the entire show to be CG. That's new Futurama's turf. Pretty sure old Futurama was still hand drawn (with the exception of the Galaxy Express ship models. Still, they handled some pretty impressive CG effects, so I'll provide an exception.)

The original intro is so much better--the characters have more expression on their faces and Homer getting chased by Marge's car was funnier. Yes it reminds me of when I was a kid, but back then much more work and effort was put into making an episode.

Actually, no. It's still hand-drawn, but since 2002 it's been COLORED digitally. The drawings are scanned into the computer, colored, and composited with the backgrounds.
Animated shows gradually stopped using cels and switched to digital color during the 90s, but Simpsons was one of the last ones to do so (I think THE last was Ed Edd n' Eddy).

The wording matters, though. There's a big difference between "computer animation" (Shrek, Toy Story) vs. drawn animation with digital color. I point it out because for some reason there is a LOT of ignorance about animation, even on the most basic level. The #1 thing you hear is "Oh, isn't it all done by computers now?" Notice it's not "with" computers, it's "BY" computers. They actually think the computer does it itself. An astonishing number of people think this. SMH.

I think at 0:30 in the new opening, they should've retraced the old animation of Marge's reaction into the new opening, instead of her Flash-animation nodding and smiling, but they could maybe keep in the Maggie vs. Gerald bit (but animate it better)

Yeah, the first time I saw the part where Maggie shakes her fist at Gerald, I was shocked. I couldn't believe how low the standards had dropped. It's amazing that they put that scene on the air looking like that. They should have been embarassed to air something that looked like something a lazy high school student did in AfterEffects on a Saturday evening.

It also appears some scenes in the new intro were traced off the old one (like Bart running out of the classroom, and Homer reaching behind his back to pull out the rod.)

its all so funny and innocent the older ones, the newer ones are just trying too hard and are cold and empty, look at the expressions on the faces for instance ie. 0.30 marges face as someone said before.. i want the old simpsons back, did they change producers or something? i dont see why they cant just make new episodes as great as the old ones, with the old intro!!

I still have faith that Matt is going to realize what we don't like, and end those things so simpsons can still retain its former glory. IE: overcrowded celbrity refrences (and appearances), too many mysteries that characters are discovering, Lisa slowly becoming a brat, ect.
