  • Nice sights - thank you.

  • The 1978 accident my teacher "Stephen Ledbetter" was one of the security guards there and he told our class everything that happened. How the one girls face got ripped off and the guy laying in a pool of blood and the girl with the pole through her. He had actually helped the one with the face ripped off. I didn`t believe it till I googled it.

  • @mikethenascarfan Well the gondolas are locked to the cable by the grips once they leave the station. The cables themselves roll over the towers on what are called shives (I think). Those cables stay rolling over the towers due to the enormous tension force being applied by the counterweights at the tension station. With that being said, there's always going to be someone that doesn't have the common sense to realize they might injure themselves and/or others by doing the stupid things they do.

  • @mikethenascarfan I did several times when I was there. I just filmed a onride video on one of few times I used the ride. Also, keep in mind those accidents were at different Six Flags parks and they were caused by riders doing stupid things like rocking their gondola from side to side

  • @woodencoasterfan true, but still ythey should be able to withstand that

  • Great America Had a bigger one XD

  • On July 26, 1978, three people died when their gondola fell from the cable!!creeeepy

  • @twilightstar302 I'm pretty shure that happened at Six Flags near St. Louis, MO.

  • @woodencoasterfan I do two, thats probably why they stopped doing the gondola rides in chic ago, or St. Louis...somewhere near that.

  • They aren't getting rid of the skyway are they?

  • @IggyZadr God I hope not..Where did you hear this rumor?

  • @vonrollskyway1

I didn't - just reading some of the posts and how everyone is saying this is the last of its kind. Makes it sound like they are beginning some vonroll ethnic cleansing. Hopefully not though.

Funny thing, I was just uploading a video of my ride on the skyway that i took last week so i was looking at different videos and found this one.

  • @IggyZadr IGGY,Look at my video channel..I love these old vonroll skyrides!! I have a working model of a Von Roll Skyride as well as some Ride on videos of the Sea World SkyRide and the San Diego Zoo Skyfari..

  • @IggyZadr I haven't heard anything about that yet. Besides, since Six Flags is in bankruptcy reorganization, I think it would be foolish for them to spend all that money dismantling a ride that is still very popular with park guests. It would also eliminate their only means of transporting guests from one end of the park to the other.

  • @woodencoasterfan you could always walk!- i was ther elast week- now i see al the fatal accidents that happened there

  • i worked this lol

  • ill allways put my trust in a vonroll type 101 skyride..anything else,nope..here in san diego we have 2 classic vonroll type 101s..the 1967 vonroll skyride at seaworld san diego and the 1969 vonroll skyfari at san diego zoo.love the old vonroll skyrides!

  • It's sad to see these rides dissapear as just about every large amusement park had one at one time or another during the 70's. Lee Roy Warner actually planned on having three or four at this park when it was in the initial planning stages. But he had to cut back due to bugetary restrictions. I read somewhere that there were only ten opperating VonRoll Type 101's opperating world wide now.

  • that would have been way cool..a vonroll skyride paradise!there is around 15 left world wide of the vonroll type 101 grip..

  • July 26,1978 Six Flags Over St. Louis, Six Flags Skyway Accident, google it, I was there that day, you could not PAY me to ride this thing to this day!!!

  • We rode the Six Flags St. Louis Sky-way a day or two before that accident. It was caused by people rocking the car causing damage to a roller battery. I had 30+ of nightmares from that accident but I will still ride these things. Sadly the Six Flags St Louis accident and the Texas State Fair accident led to many of them being closed.

  • I too was affected by the accident, just being there, we were sitting in the outdoor restaurant eating when we heard the car hit the ground, a sound I will never forget in my mind. Whatever the cause it was a horrible day and I feel so bad for the lives lost that day.

  • I was only 5 and only saw the rescue efforts on TV and it effected me. Don't bother going to the sfstl fansite they don't like people talking about the accident there. I have a website about the ride and the accident. Sky-Way was my favorite ride.

  • 30 cars on each side.

  • Since when was it 30?I thought it was 20 lol

  • HAH saw myself in the begining. "We are great, thank yo.... TYLER"

  • what is the max cars you run there tylervan??how many gondolas do you have?i know the worlds fair had 120 cars at intervals of 12 seconds..

  • "Welcome to the Skyway, where you will traverse across many acres of beautiful lands." That voice is annoying when hearing it 3600X a day.

  • Yes it is.I memorized it from working it so much.

  • I work here and this is my ride.I love coasters and working don't get me wrong, but this is by far the worst ride ever to work lol

  • who the hell is this geek talkin mallen132 geex u need to shutup

  • Alright Kevin =),you know you hate the Cables too lol.

  • well its not tht bad at times

  • Well atleast you're working a ride that was at the 1964 World's Fair in New York and that this dual Skyway is the last of it's kind. It was kinda neat to see both sides running on the last day I was there.

  • sweet video..its a bummer both sides wernt running.i just wish they had all of the original 120 cars...imagine,gondolas leaving every 12 seconds!

  • Thanks. They had the other side opperating today and at 5pm, I noticed they did have both sides running. Unfortunately, it was too late in the day to get any good footage and today was my last day there.

  • its a vonroll type 101
