Professional investment analysts don’t trade the investments they report on in order to remain objective. Could Simmons say the same about the companies involved in the Gulf spill? He held short positions on these companies and stood to profit from the devaluation of their stock. Given the platform he commanded as a make-believe financial journalist, this was HIGHLY UNETHICAL of him.
Just the reply one would expect from someone who believed the nonsense that Simmons spewed for so many years. The guy got every major claim dead wrong. What happened to the "imminent collapse" of Ghawar he predicted 5 years ago? What happened to $200 oil in 2010? What happened to the claim no new 1MM bbl fields would come on line? What happened to the claim no new Super Major oil discoveries would be made? All laughably wrong...
You can't touch me. I've got my garlic voodoo necklace on...
it's actually much better than the leak continuing. it's a small nuclear device he is proposing that has actually been done multiple times. the radioactivity is negligible. also the explosion will be so deep it won't even register on the surface.
1.03 boom FAIL, oil trapped on the land side of the boom leaking out to sea.....if BP cant even use a boom properly then I am reluctant to hand them a nuke and say 'good luck boys'.
Fission-fusion-fission hydrogen bombs are no more powerful today than they were in the 60's. The USSR detonated the highest-yield bomb ever, 50 megatons, in 1961. As for how hot a thermonuclear device gets, think the sun: millions of degrees Fahrenheit. The fusion reaction in these bombs is after all the same reaction that takes place inside stars. But the Russians only ever used nukes to seal natural gas wells on land, never oil wells under the kilometres under the sea floor.
A nuke can turn sand into glass. It is not the pressure,so much as the intense heat.
Not sure how hot a nuke gets, but it can vaporize a aircraft carrier in a nano second, and that was in 1950. Today's nukes are a million times more powerful.
@cuprocarbon - Not sure what you mean. The US government exploded many nukes under the mountains of Utah in he 1950's. Those explosions took place at 5000 feet below the surface. Residents never heard or felt anything. If MATT is right, the first thing BP needs to dois admit the riser leak, relatively small at that is not the real leak. That little leak, 50% gas, is not capable of covering 1/10 of the gulf with thick gooy tar in 60 days. BP is beyond dishonest.
The well could contain anywhere from 100 million barrels to 15 billion. I doubt anyone knows for sure. If MATT is right, and so far he has been 100% correct,
then the gulf is truly ruined. I have made a great deal shorting BP stock since MATT first mentioned the truth of this disaster on May 27th, 2010. My opinion is the authorities are playing the American public for time, pretending these actions of relief wells will work. If they dont, I think there could be a stock market crash.
More or less 3.6 billion years ago Life started within rocks and alike by means of anaerobic rock-eating organisms. So the terrestrial crust was the fundamental and first biosphere of Earth, millions of years before the existence of atmospheric and oceanic free oxygen which later allowed the developing of advanced lifeforms. So once the oil now is destroying life at the surface of the terrestrial crust, everything above it would be destroyed. God save us.

Ever consider what a nuclear explosion would do to methane gas? I hear there is a lot of that coming up along with all that oil.
Maybe an oily gulf is better than an oily and radioactive gulf.

@holocaustexpert Not really, nuclear bombs these days are of lower yield than those "show piece" bombs of the cold war.
