good review. I just picked one up myself, not a bad system, I just use it with the AC though, no reason to take it with me. Great to have around when you want some old school games.
Even with the Game Gear's superior playability and backlit screen with 16-bit graphics, the Game Boy's monochrome, 8-bit playability still had fans cheering. That's because the Game Boy's 4-battery life is 35 hrs. while the Game Gear's 6-battery life had only 9-12 hrs. And the Game Gear was ridiculously big for a handheld. But hey, Sony made that issue work for them.
Actually game gear has only 8 bits. Sega has just always had a superior handling of resources. They are one of the worst when it comes to consumer relations though. Like the Master System had the same specs as the NES, but Sega made better use of it. Not to knock Early Nintendo though, they had some nice games too. But the ones that used the graphics capability of the system in a way similar to what Sega did didn't come till later in NES's life. The "portable" 16 bit one Sega made was Nomad.
