i got a cinnamon white face cockatiel for my birthday he died on good friday he was only 3 monthes old we think he died with a illness he was born with because when i first got him he didn't look like a normal cinnamon white face cockatiel....I miss you Rivers :( .:<3R.I.P Rivers<3:. 23-2-2011 13-4-2011
I thought cockatiels only lived 20 years max.. this is amazing.. Mine is 6 right now and he's my best friend.. :) Im excited to see how long he lives for!
@SANDbify It seems rather extraordinary until you consider the fact that that the Global average life expectancy is around 70 years, Yet people have lived to 122 years of age. So if the average is as you say 20, an extraordinary cockatiel could live to 35.
my cocatial went through three different families abusing it and we revieved it in the third grade at about three. it dies at nine and i thought the normal span of a cocatial was about 9. i now have a cinimon green cheek conure (hand raised) and it was great to get her at such a young age. how long would a cocatial lived without abuse? mine was the same color
Sweet little 'Tiel. I hope 'Sukay' is doing all right and his colors are still *bright*. Cockies do get a bit fragile when they get old! But they're still amazing birdies.
That is one special little bird. Did he pick those whistles up from someone in the family? I'm guessing (along with other commenters below) that his legs have gone from old age. How do you look after a geriatric bird?
awwwwwww....I'm gonna show this to my whiteface and see if he catches on. (he's only 4 months) :) beautiful bird. 24 yrs? wow, good job with its care.
I want one so bad......but I don't know how my parakeet will react....the parakeet is like my baby.....I have no children.....but if I did....it would be this parakeet.....I don't want to upset her by fawning on the cockatiel......at the same time....I'm enthralled by the cockatiels.......they're like big parakeets with musical ability......
24 years! I've only had Charlie since...July! I'm only guessing when I say I think he's gonna be a year old in December. But gosh- 24 years. He must have had an amazing diet, and company. :]
Kudos to you for keeping and loving Sukay all these years. My oldest was a female who was 18 when she got a cancerous tumor. Give Sukay a kiss from me.
aww i have a girl cockatiel named baby she is very sweet she looks just like urs but she is less thanj a year old and she is hand raised and hand fed
Thank You .... i came and visit your singing banana..... my past last year she was 3 dat from turning 18 and i miss my BIEJITA ...her name ....i cry when i see yours i have her on my favorites. thank you . shikaluna.....
awwww poor baby! my budgie has arthritis and hes 16 yrs old he sits like that too. Its sad when they get old and get slow it makes you really feel for them~
@leacox2 My old tiel Romio sits like this, he had a bad fall in his cage one day, and his poor old hips just went out, but he's a happy boy, he used his wings and his jacked up looking tail to get around, and he's out lived several other birds that we've had...they are wonderful pets though...and yours has a wonderful little voice...you should be so proud of him, he's beautiful...
Does someone in the house play violin or something? He's clearly doing triadic arpeggios, vibrati, glissandi, even making a little melody on a set of IV-bIII chords at 3:01. There are many moments of very clear Western musical sounds in his singing, even though they're mixed with that cockatiel rhythm as usual. I've never, ever heard a cockatiel sing anything like this. I find this kinda cute but thought provoking--it must be his age, as if he's had lots of years to practice.
im 15 years old and i have 5 years old kockatiel, your bird is so cool, im trying to learn my bird to sing, if i dont let her listen to this video, she bit my nose xD
What a beautiful little cockatiel, and an equally beautiful song. You're very lucky to have such a nice cockatiel (but seriously, is there any such thing as a bad cockatiel) =D
we had a cockatiel , it died about a month or two aqo but we now we have a sun conjure or somethng like that , her name is raindrop cause shes soo colorful && she loves to play in the water :)
@reflex0r =*( I am sooooo sorry for the loss of your beloved one....It's never easy, especially after 22 years. My red lored amazon female Lola passed away 4 years ago, she was 23. I'm still heartbroken as is her mate who faithfully calls her every morning.
mine is about 5 years and ive made sure that every thing that goes in his mouth is not bad for him, lol i always check the internet. oh and my bird LOVES noodles :3
it is awesome that your cockatiel has reached such an age. you sound like a great bird owner from the comments ive read here. lucky birds! I believe variety of food is important, and i have several videos on cockatiel/budgie food if you are interested.
This isn't my bird, but I have a 13 year old Bourke's parakeet. I give him lots of attention, he always has a mate (he outlived the first one), I let him fly around every day, I feed him a mixture of pellets and seed plus some vegies, and I try to keep a constant temperature. That means a space heater in the winter.
Cockatiels are bigger and somewhat less fragile than my Bourke's, though.
Every species and individual is different. Io likes broccoli and other green vegetables, carrots, and that's about it. But other birds I know eat a whole variety of veggies and fruits. Io doesn't like fruit. Avocados are poisonous to Australian parakeets (including Cockatiels, as far as I know). Also, don't cook with teflon. That gives off a plastic gas that gets into the bird's lungs and kills them.
Well, thank you very much for all the information. I think cockatiels are a great pet, because you could tell how happy they are with human companionship. Mine is under 10 years old and hope it sticks around for many more. Take care :)
@leacox2 Hi Leacox2.. I am planning to buy a cockatiel but some says that male cockatiel has a more probability to talk than a female. and please advise what is more likely. to buy a pair or a male only.
I have a white cockatiel named Jasper that is 29 years old, he's blind from age, but other than that, still going strong. He says, "Jasper's a pretty boy", wolf whistles at the ladies, mimics coughing, motorcycles, kisses, bows his head, bobs his head to music, knocks on the door, chatters his "false" teeth, and balances on a ball...I've had him since I was in 3rd grade and I'm now 33 years old.
My Cockatiel is 26 she can walk....but slowly. I have her on padded bottom of cage, covered with paper towels.....she was having problems with her perch and would fall...so this helped. Yours must be a boy....sings beautifully...mine just chirps : ) Enjoy!!
cos i had a 16 human years old one and and it sadly passed away yesterday
do you know anythign about cockatiels being pregnant by itself? many times before my bird had eggs but she was never near any other birds, they werent fertillised or anything just an egg
Yes I mean 24 years in human years. Sorry yours passed away. 16 years is still a long life. Female birds can lay eggs without a mate, but the eggs are infertile, so won't hatch. If the female lays a lot of eggs, she can get calcium-deprived.
Sometimes the females get "egg-binding" -- the egg gets stuck--there are things you can do to help-- and sometimes the egg breaks, causing bleeding. There are other causes of bleeding, so the egg is just one possibility. hope you get a new bird. better yet, 2 birds--they like companions.
i haven't had an eclectus, but i've heard they are noisy. if you can't stand the noise, you should perhaps think about finding someone to adopt him who can tolerate his noise.
Hey, Man. Wow. I am in shock, such an aged bird but the heart of a baby. =`) Really cute, I hope he lives another good healthy 24 years =) ( i know their life span i have a 3 and 7 year old)
What a happy bird! I'm so glad he's being cared for in his later stages of life! Such a beautiful bird. I had a lutino female when I was younger, she was an amazing companion. This video woke up and excited my 2 rescue-cockatiels!
Hi shapeepster, i'm not the owner, but at the time i took the video, Sukay could could balance, but not really stand very well. That is great that you have a 14 y old cockatiel. i have a 14 y old bourke parakeet.
Can u send me some pieces of music i can paly over and over to my cockatiel so it will sing aswell? :D Would be really awesome. Just send to my youtube channel. I check it every day
I'm not sure what you are asking...you can record a song and repeat it yourself--best to use your voice--the bird will recognize your voice and respond to it better.
Sukay belongs to a friend, but I've taught bourkes parakeets to whistle and budgies to talk. Repeating some short musical phrase, over and over, is a start. Not all parakeets are interested in imitating humans.
is your bird a girl?? cus they say girls dont sing as much but also you just have to ALWAYS sing or leave a radio or ipod playing so they get the tunes and ideas ya know?
If you want your bird to sing a song, the best thing to do is teach them when they are very young, but since your bird is 4 years old, try repeating the song as often as you can every day. Eventually the bird will begin to imitate what he hears. Good luck and hope this helps
Sukay lives!! and as soon as i can get a video camera (mine was stolen last year) I'll take an updated video!!

I think Sukay is male -- he belongs to a friend.

Just whistle a song...Repeatedly.

If you want your bird to sing a song, the best thing to do is teach them when they are very young, but since your bird is 4 years old, try repeating the song as often as you can every day. Eventually the bird will begin to imitate what he hears. Good luck and hope this helps

Very cute but why is laying on his stomach? Is there something wrong with his legs?

This bird was, at the time of the video, blind in 1 eye and lame, but still full of energy and song. He is now 27. I am not his keeper.
