suprabuddha, the UN resolutions were intended to allow palestinians to solve their own problems by creating a viable palestinian state that would not have to struggle for independence. the US vetoed the resolutions and US/israel continue in their rejection of peace.

The specific resoulutions to which you refer and I am no expert on this call for a return to the 1967 borders given the emotional ties both sides have to the city of jerusalem this is not likely but in the oslo accords the palestinians were ceded everything but the city and the right of return yet this offer was rejected out of hand by the then leader of the palestinian authority yassir arafat WHY?????

I can only assume that although a democratically elected government they still have no control over airspace, coastlines, and economy. The Israeli's continued attempt to collectively punish them probably creates a lot of anger and angry people sometimes do things that are not in their self interest.

there are UN resolutions calling for return to pre-67 borders and declaring the occupation illegal (UN 242); there are others making the right of return a legal right of the palestinians and making settlement expansion illegal. the acceptance of international law by US/israel would go a long way to peace and would undercut any rational support for attacking israel. this would also end israel's conquest, which US/israel will not accept.

You missed the fact that after 31 years, political and international relationship have changed. Israel is now the sole superpower in the Middle East. Where did you stand on borders, ethnic, religion, and Jerusaluem issues? If you stand on one side, can you make stronger arguements than using the same excuses for years(god, history, international laws, etc.)? Everyone want peace, but only and only if it is in their favor terms. War continues.

US/israel have been systematically preventing the palestinians from obtaining a diplomatic solution, they then increase their atrocities until violence happens again. just because you choose to not remember the history of the conflict does not mean that the world does not see the crimes. i think the main problem is that US/israel see this as a public relations problem that they can gloss over with information control while they use military might to conquer.

youve got the situation completely out of context and seem to be missing information. the withdraw of the few settlements from gaza was accompanied by increased settlements and expansion in the west bank, increased attacks, and the strangulation of gaza through blockades; making gaza a non-viable entity.

after hamas was elected, they enacted a unilateral ceasefire for a year and a half while calling for israel to accept a ceasefire and negotiate towards a two-state solution. although some rockets were fired by sub-groups out of hamas control, there were virtually no attacks on israel. at this time, hezbollah, iran, turkey, and the arabs states all agreed to support a palestinian two-state solution.

US/israel responded by refusing to recognize hamas, increasing their terrorism, assassinations(of elected figures), massacres, aggression, conquest expansion, and continued kidnappings. US/israel did the same thing they did in 1980 when they were threatened by peace coming from the PLO, they increased aggression.

this kept going with silence and complicity in the western media, until the kidnapping of a palestinian doctor eventually caused the retaliation that led to the border raids that captured israeli soldiers. US/israel went to war with lebanese civilians. while they lost a strategic and political battle with hezbollah, they were committing UN documented war crimes, like bombing civilians infrastructure and using US made cluster bombs in civilian areas.

desptie the global outcry to stop the war, the US again refused to allow the UN to work and blocked peace for weeks unilaterally. this was the most recent chance for a real peace, with all sides ready to make an equitable deal, but US/israel showing their clear policy of rejectionism and escalation again and again, until they can provoke violence to make a diplomatic solution impossible. this is nothing new and has been going on for decades.
