  • I actually love the live versions more. for my taste it's smarter, the ending awesome and they remade it afterwards into a too much straightforward song and the smartness kinda got lost a bit under those dancey beats

  • epic

  • I think I just creamed

  • This is the anthem of my life.

  • My friends favorite band.

He committed suicide yesterday... He loved you

  • @OffNinja69 cool

  • 19 people care about material things

  • skating music

  • Wheres the bass?!

  • Avey is pumped. I love it.

  • avey always goes nuts live, i love it

  • yes!!

  • I JUST WANT FOUR WALLS AND ADOBE SLATS FOR MY GURLLLZZZZ

  • did I just have sex?

  • this is amazing and not disappointing period

  • This is disappointing... I love this song but this is not a good live performance. Electronic music has always had this hurdle, where all these great sounds and ideas performed live become some dude bobbing up and down twisting knobs and barely acknowledging the audience. I admit, it's got to be difficult if they don't want to take an army of people out on tour (expensive, complicated), but I would not pay money to see this.

  • @whytelynes Then you arent feeling the music buddy...im sorry your gonna flame the shit out of me for saying that. But this has just as much if not more emotion then the song. It's so powerful. Everyones entitled to their opinion but this is beautiful

  • @whytelynes least you didn't say fuck anumal collective they r 4 teh GAYZOREZ. I guess i can respectfully disagree without starting a troll war

  • This song is beast. Their voices are epic

  • this song is awful as is everything a.c. have done since feels.i have seen at least 500 bands in the past. 18 years and a.c. were bar none one of the top three worst ive ever seen. they sounded like a muddy mess that just could not replicate the studio tricks..not to mention that avey tare threw down his bass mid song and refused to continue bc he was pissed at the sound guy. myself and two other fans of a.c. ' s earlier stuff endined up leaving before they were done.

  • the geologist has all your swag

  • because playing around with synths takes skill

  • I absolutely LOVE this. This has to be the greatest song on Earth. If not, then please tell me what is.

  • @JesikkaNicole "a day in the life" by the beatles

  • @nickfromCO have to agree with this man

  • @JesikkaNicole Though that's not my favorite, I'll admit that that is an amazing song; definiately the Beatle's best

  • im dying to see them live!

  • goooseeebumps

  • Its amazing how great the backing voices they each make are as good or even better live. The main melody/vocal lines normally don't reach that level.

  • "only wantHUH!" thats annoying...haha

  • people who say they lose an element live need to listen to a more recent live version of htis song. this version is what they played before they recorded mpp, and they changed it a lot. i personally like this version better and i heard it first. but listen to more recent performances they sound more like the album if thats what your looking for. and ive seen them live multiple times, theyre amazing.

  • Are people saying this sucks because of the performance, the song, or both? I personally think the song is quite interesting on it's own and enjoy the ethereal and synth quality to the sound.

  • This is depressingly disappointing.

  • ok.. at 3:05 avey tares eyes are glowing and it looks a little demonic.

  • ok.. at 3:07 avey tares eyes are glowing and it looks a little demonic.

  • LOL THIS IS SO FUCKING BAD ITS HILARIOUS

  • @Beeswaxlol not for you.

  • hate to say that these songs aren't quite good enough to stand alone without the massive production that accompanies them on record.

  • People say Tom Delonge is an awful singer live.. this damn hippie has got him beat ten times over.

  • .... what a lovely sound!!!

  • this is so awesome..love animal collective!!!

  • I think they lose a lot live, since they're not able to add the massive group harmonies like they do on album.

  • @OneTimer1127 And because they are terrible musicians and they sound like jackasses on stage.

  • @sluggo163 Well that's not very nice. You don't have to be a phenomenal musician to make good music. They're a testament to that. To me, how they sound on stage has a lot less to do with their musical abilities than their albums do. I mean, hell, if live performances translate into musicianship, then Weezer must be one of the most musically talented bands ever.

  • The guy singing shitty backing vocal's mic needs to be turned down. Waaaaay down. Or just off.

  • @PirateBobLadYar Uhmmm... That is Avey Tare, so you watch your effing mouth. :/

  • nuthin' better. <3

  • man I love panda bears vocals on this, and on daily routine. so amazing. puts me in a trance

  • sorry but they arent better live.

  • @r0b0bert

live music never sounds good on youtube...i heard theyre incredible live.

  • LOL Karaoke

  • Heard this song on NPR while driving through the western ass end of Colorado! Had to have more. It's great song and the boys are talented. I wonder if any of their other music is good? Thanks for posting Jangaboo

  • @FeFe3O4 yes their other music is good!!!!!!!!

  • This is the best version of 'House' there is. Studio 'My Girls included. Absolutely stunning from start to finish.

  • Why do they never use all the percussion in the recorded version when they perform live? Without it the the song sounds so flat. It's just way to repetitive and doesn't progress enough without the beat.

  • i feel you, this song needs that heavy bass to it, it feels more powerful with it.

  • amazing. music has progressed so much and it fucking rocks my world.

  • Panda Bear and his wife live in Portugal!

    Fuckin awesome.

I hope they play there soon.

  • Nobody seems to care about Geologist haha.

  • @harrytheblurfan I LOVE GEOLIGIST! :)

  • @MonsieurRondu GEOLOGIST **

  • i actually like this better than listening to their recordings.

  • i love this version, and avey tare is in no way taking the spotlight thats so dumb, sure panda wrote it, but the recording is both of them singing

  • the human voice isnt perfect, im glad they dont sound like american idols. sounds more like me singing in the shower on mushrooms.

  • It isn't about "wanting the spotlight." Yes, this song is particularly personal for Panda Bear, who is the lead singer on this song. However, Avey Tare and Panda Bear have shared singing duties for Animal Collective since the band started (with just the two of them might I add.) If Avey Tare cared about the spotlight he would never perform Derek or Comfy in Nautica live (both of which are Panda Bear solo songs.)

  • that's exactly what i've been saying ^

  • This versions better because the guy in the background keeps screaming because he wants the spotlight and drown out the voice of the other guy

  • @killabeezJO Avey Tare isn't a back-up singer... not even for this song

  • Animal Collective are amazing, no doubt about that. But they are not very good live, it seems. Too bad.

  • Comment removed

  • their live shows seem more like, personal you kno what i mean

  • theyre still the best band ive seen live. but i still love them though.

  • 2:35 ...did I just hear Panda speak french?

  • Comment removed

  • watch my mix of this song

  • watch my mix of this song

  • I love this band. This version sounds like The Proclaimers on acid (in a good way)

  • i wish that all the people who were complaining about the coachella version could see this! almost as perfect as humans get!

  • i want to see them live more than anything in the world.

  • I really appreciate these guys they're awesome. . .

  • What is it that Avey is hitting every now and then for the sub floor tomish sound? Looks like a big conga, but probably something different?

  • does any1 kno more bands like thiz

  • check out Panda Bear - Person Pitch

Panda bear is a member of Animal Collective and that album has similarities to a few songs on Merryweather

thats closest i could think of, maybe Air France but I don't know

  • blind man's colour, sufjan stevens

  • thanks for blind man's colour, just checked em out for first time and they sound great

only weird thing is they sound almost exactly like Animal Collective in some songs ...like i could swear this is Animal Collective

  • @Jangaboo parenthetical girls

  • check out panda bear's solo stuff like comfy in nautica or take pills.

  • try el guincho

  • no way!! nothing to do in my opinion (sorta tropical feeling here, all right, but the soul of the music...)

  • @rioamericanosucks maybe yeasayer, but theyre more 'poppy'/dancey and less psychedelic in my opinion

  • @rioamericanosucks check out a band called Twyzerrs, very like AC except way more experimental, radical yet melodic

  • @rioamericanosucks Grails they are harder though, Wolf Eyes they are pretty messed up though with their sounds, and Lustmord. As far as atmospheric goes these are the top bands I have, Wolf eyes is pretty out there so be ready for it.

  • @rioamericanosucks The Mint Chicks - Screens

  • @nzwwefan definitley.

  • @rioamericanosucks if you like this kinda stuff, you might like this one band called battles. they are amazing

  • @rioamericanosucks There's a british band called Manyo House of Art, they do stuff quite similar to this, haven't heard anything from them in ages. Look them up.

  • @rioamericanosucks Just makin sure, but alot of Animal Collective fans joined on with Merriweather which is fine, but definitely check out thier other stuff if you have not already. Their EP Fall Be Kind is basically almost an extension of Merriweather. Another band called Ducktails is somewhat like them except a little more beachy. Theres also a band called Black Dice that's really similair.

  • @rioamericanosucks I've always thought The Dodos sounded similar.

  • @rioamericanosucks check out MillionYoung - Chlorophyl

  • this is amazing, its one of the best things i've ever heard

  • It isn't perfectly pitched...but they are attempting harmonies that are a bit more left-field than most...plus its nice to see an electronic group playing stuff from scratch...other than samples it all looks like its being done live...kinda rare with ALOT of groups these days.

  • The song, to me, isn't about perfect pitch, and that's a rarity for me, usually it's just about the lyrics and vocals...but this song, with it's beauty...it's so much more. The lyrics, the synth, it's just gorgeous...

  • maybe its about... PERSON PITCH

  • @oddmanout1792 I'm pretty sure it's about his daughter and wife.

  • i can attest to this song sound absolutely terrible live. The problem is that their album is so perfectly produced its extremely hard to match it live. I saw them at ATP 2009 and it was terrible, saw them at bonnaroo and it was terrible. They are not a good live band.

  • @thepoomz i agree.. i was so stoked to see them live and it was a huge disappointment. they lose a lot of their energy and everything ends up sounding muddled. just doesn't live up to the studio version, and not just because they change things up, but because they lose the energy.

  • man i love animal collective.. but he is really off pitch from the album version

  • love it when avey yelps. sends shivers thru my body

  • well i thought it was freakin beautiful. it almost brought me to tears..

  • such beauty and harmony... or is it beauty and illharmony? happiness is the real goal!

  • I'm reminded of a friend of mine when I was little who used to draw people's skin in turquoise or pink, or some other outrageous colour. I used to make fun of her, but now I think there are so many people with normal colours of skin. Why not invent turquoise and pink people too? Makes life a shade more interesting, pardon the pun.

  • am i the only one who thinks their voices sound good

  • oh shut up, you blasted idiot.

  • Panda Bear is my hero. However they have to add some fucking bass to get the crowd going. I would still go crazy seeing this live (which I will in 2 weeks) but my craziness would increase tenfold with some bass.

  • And maybe this is just me but I'd really like it to drop in a pounding bass drum at some point during the song. It's not dancey enough!

  • You're all over complicating this. It's just the effing levels. The vocals need to blend in with the rest of the instruments. It's probably down to the sound guy to be honest. You'll notice as soon as the vocals come in they bring down the volume of everything else. And they shouldn't. Reverb and less volume on the vox are an easy solution!

  • mau pa

  • his voices ?

  • Yeah I agree

  • not at all

  • This song is so funky...

    makes me wanna move.

  • One of the better performances of this song, but i can see what Ronan2 means about the lack of energy, it does plog along a bit.

  • few songs make me feel like this one does... you can truly feel it.

  • the album is so produced.. you just can't do that live

  • that's their fault.

    don't over-produce.

  • Just a perfect song, from a perfect group of people!

  • This was a better perfomance than the one at Coachella.

  • hell yes

  • Ah, Panda Bear. So dreamy. So moody.

  • Way better than the Coachella video but

Avey still needs to shut up!All his little adding

to vocals is super annoying! This makes me not

want to see them live.Stick to the template people!

  • I dunno, I think Panda is the genius behind the band

  • Instrumentally yes, but not vocally. But i would venture to say that Avey is instrumentally aswell.. seeing as Spirit was his solo album essentially

  • who do you think was playing drums in that album? :P

    leave it as equal.

  • The drums were probably the most unique thing about, yet only a small contributing factor considering all the other instrumental parts.. done by Avey

  • They are nothing without each other.

  • Um, I guess you've never heard Panda Bear

  • lol

  • this compared to the "cochella" live-- wow what a vocal difference

they must of been on the end of the tour on that cochella is because their voices r on point on this version

  • To Bass or not to Bass.

  • this song is awesome live, especially without the bass!

  • drums? no? okay...

  • Bass? What the fuck, if you need bass, why don't you just listen to something unoriginal.

  • When did bass = not worth listening to?

I missed the memo that all bands wanting to do something new had to have a lack of bass.

  • WTF? I think maybe you have put words into my mouth. That is not what I mean. There are alot of bands that use bass that are original and worth listening to. I'm just saying if you need a cookie cutter format for making music then go listen to some fucking Pop.

  • My bad, I misunderstood you :)

  • agree

  • well, i think the person meant that the album version has bass torwards the end, so they just noticed this doesnt. I personally like the bass in the album version, but this doesnt bother me, it makes it more ambient and hypnotic. And please no fighting. This is animal collective...they wouldn't want us to argue, especially nota bout their music :P

  • i think this is their best song

  • whats with people and wanting everything to be dance music

  • Drop some bass!!!!! Still love them though.

  • Love this version!

  • I agree with whoisbiIg - remixed with a fatter beat/bass, this song would cause a riot.

  • Where is that snare clap? I love that part.

  • this song would DESTROY a crowd if it had a dancier beat the the end with some bass. The place would erupt.

  • Great video, tear and bear's voices blend so nicely. Also i like how they switch up roles (panda up front, tear on the percussion).

  • I HATE HOW:

they done have any fxcking bass on the song whenever they perform it.

  • :) love.love.love. :)

  • I totally agree
