I think it may be the sun or some sort of city light at first, and then it goes out of frame. That's when they bring a match or some sort of small light on a stick/thread. You can see the stick around 1:00.

Anyone has a better explanation? It has made me curious.

I've seen something like this before when I was younger, although it's not as prominent, perhaps it was far. I thought it was just a light from a tower or something and then it started ascending in a similar fashion, and then it went on a sharp 90 degrees turn to the right and swooshed so fast it was gone in a second. I knew it was UFO, because no aircraft would behave that way.

0:55 to 0:58 you can clearly see a contrail, this is a rocket not a ufo. I do believe in ufos, I have personally seen an actual 2000 foot wide ufo (orange sphere) traveling north then banked northwest traveling approx 3500-7000mph (took about 1 minute to travel from as far as i could see from south, to as far as i could see northwest, 500mph jet takes 10+ minutes to fly that distance). I was near valley of fire state park in nevada driving home at night when i seen it.

Thats called a camera not having the ability to distinguish between intense light and dark at the same time. most low end cameras do this.

the "stick" you are seeying is just a ray of light. theres one going the other direction if you look again making it like an X...ish.

Its not lens work and its still night throughout the shoot - house lights stay on. And, you can see reflection under the clouds momentarily on its way up. So, its not a photo through a filter lens of the sun. The shaking at the end is because the object is moving further away and therefore more difficult to focus steadily. 

My conclusion ... a fat firefly ... ok, a real fat one.

I'll admit though, in the final few seconds it jerks around in a way that looks more like a hand-held camera than stop-motion. I have to also wonder though, why is there no sound? To conceal that it's a stop-motion video of the sun? Maybe. Maybe not. The object does appear to be somewhat angular as opposed to round like the sun. And when the camera moves quickly the light elongates, which wouldn't happen with stop-motion. Without more information on the video I can't draw any conclusions.

It illuminates the sky like the sun. I think it's possible that a hoaxer put a darkening filter on a camera and did a stop-motion filming then sped it up. Except that wouldn't look smooth unless the camera's position was plotted using a computer. They would have to program the zooming too.

On the skyline you can see lights flickering. People turning lights on and off in their homes would look like that in stop-motion photography. But one might also argue that they're camera flashes. Who knows..

Since it illuminated before departing the ground and the movement was quite slow and steady, What I suspect would be a bright sky lantern designed for heat from the candle(s) inside would enable it to lift off the ground. Some are in beautiful colors and could display a nighttime sky show like nothing you'll ever see. Their gorgeous and can make a spectacular aerial show.
