The U.S. has by far the largest economy (highest GDP) but there are a few countries with a better GDP Per Capita (small countries). Being trillions of dollars in debt is more a problem for the future of America's economy. Also, what in the world were you going for with 'learn your history"? Yeah, most of the major economies are in the same crappy state the U.S. is in. Also, unless you want to look at the E.U. as a whole then there really isn't a country that can compare to the size and strength of the U.S. economy. America is much larger than competing highly developed economies. So an economy of 300 million people is going to have more sway than say Japan, who has like 125 million, regardless of perhaps Japan having a more efficient economy.
