  • Bernarrd, a German guy sung Vietnamese music "Vọng cổ" with Vietnamese country men:

"Ông tây ca cải lương tại Gò Công Tiền Giang"

  • a white girl with Vietnamese folk music "vọng cổ" on Youtube:

"Vietinfo - Cô gái canada ca vọng cổ Việt Nam"

  • ...or you can search the key words "vọng cổ" or "guitar phím lõm".

  • This is a clip about South Vietnamese folk music on youtube:

Tây Thi Quảng: Văn Giỏi (guitare phím lõm) - Thanh Hải (đàn tranh)

  • People, where can I find more music like this?!? is there any artist, band or whatever who makes this kind of pure eastern blues??? I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me on this one!!

  • the sitar sound came from the guitar or any kind of effect?

  • @PanosGuitarHero It is made by KORG AX1G multi effect pedal. It includes "Drone" effect which adds sympathetic-buzzing string sound. Now, AX1G has beendiscontinued. But AX3G or AX5G has same effect and which is still on sale now.

  • Nice work friend...thanks for spreading the good name for folklore Vietnamese music... :-)

  • sounds a lil like sitar playing pretty cool

  • I listen to this song all the time. It's (no joke) on of my favorites. Thank you so much for sharing. Really. Thanks!

  • culmination of music of at least three cultures. Unbelievability sweet!

  • no paper walls? wtf?

2.-paste it in 2 different videos

3.. hold breath for 10 secs

    4.- look at your hand

  • @shotgunfreak17 Hey my dick was in my hand.. THATS INCREDIBLE!!!

  • @deicidalmaniac

LOL that totally made my day, i love your sarcasm

  • I have a scalloped neck, and I love it.

  • sounds very indian.. or thai. this is confusing.

  • Reminds me a bit of Nguyen Le. Very nice.

  • tune that guitar

  • @keo774 it is in tune fool....sit there and tell me its not

  • Wow, this is fantastically beautiful! Excellent job!

  • I adore this video. Fuck yes. One day i'm getting a guitar scalloped just for this kind of playing. Maybe even more! :)

  • wow! this is the honestly the best thing i have heard in a looooooooong loooooooooong time!! =]

    congratulations!!

  • very cool thanks for posting this.

  • haha! i love this tone! its all twangy! lmao

  • Even though the guitar is strung with really light gauge strings so he can get those bends by pressing down harder with the fingertips, the guitar is out of tune...it would sound better if it was in tune to start with. Interesting technique though!

  • @Taldaran No it isn't.

  • @Taldaran No it isn't. You do realize in his country he's like Van Halen right.

  • hey man, I am vietnamese but i dont think you kown that instrument, none of asian country sound like that man and you stole a part from the Bach compositon. Shame on you.

  • awesome dude, it sounds like a sitar and then the bass notes you play are mad country! you've made them sound good together!

  • I am seeking information on theses instruments. How deep is the scallop on these fretboards? Is there a website to buy these guitars? Does this type of guitar have a specific name? Thanks!

  • wow

  • Maybe that's "Asian Blue", but doesn't it sound in the beginning much like Kanye's "Golddigger" as well.. .lol Great playing -- nice to hear.

  • Everytime I hear this I feel like folding shirts

  • mp3 download???

  • Coooool!

  • nghe giong' nhac cai? luong : )

  • Nice dude that was good!

  • Torigoya,

Thank you for sharing your playing!

I have recorded a lot of musicians, but have never heard anything quite like that on guitar, and it makes for a happy heart.

Before you folks go destroying guitar necks you already like, why not order a replacement neck from Warmoth Parts, or Mighty Mite guitar parts and have them put Dunlop 6100 frets on the neck. These are very fat and tall to begin with and will keep you off the board. If you decide scallop any more, it won't take a lot more.

  • any tabs?

  • I feel like godzillas commin

  • @cast390 hahahaha..... racism at it's finest.... any asian music sounds the same, right? hahahahahaha.....

    cool sound to the guitar

  • wat song is this XD

  • =O I like it.

  • I'm Vietnamese, this guitar is mostly used in a kind of folk music in vietnam, it is not famous in modern times, but many middle-aged people like it a lot. The way you play the song is quite different, our music is slower and "not imaginative", it's like a round and a round ect... slower and softer, it's used as a back ground music for a singer. And their songs are much simpler than you, you are a very good guitarist

  • must have like 8's, my scallops don't sound like this!

  • What does it mean to have a "scalloped" fretboard? If it makes the sound close to this, then I want to do that.

  • @wildmantis1 a scalloped neck has the fretboard carved out in between the frets so that your fingers do not make contact with the fretboard. They take a lot of practice as the amount of pressure you apply to the strings can not only produce a note, they can bend it as well. The goal in scalloping is to be able to bend notes and produce vibratos that you normally wouldn't be able to on a guitar because of the friction against the fretboard. Hope that helps, they are hard as hell to play.

  • funny Asian man XD

  • I like it!

  • to me thats what a scalloped neck should sound like...outstanding

  • It sounds like some sort of Asian zither, like a GuZheng or a Koto.

  • almost sounds like house of the rising sun,,,,very cool

  • sounds like a sitar : )

  • pretty good man,

    sounds really trippie

sounds better with a hit of some Hashish

  • i fucking love it. im ganna scallop my old warlock

  • cool.

i realize the scalloped fretboard gives it an interesting sound, but is it tuned differently?

  • omg, i shit myself...Im nothing

  • very cool

  • this is very nice...rat cam on!!

  • nice job!!!

  • amazing video(s)

    i must know:

    how is the droning achieved?

  • It is made by KORG AX1G multi effect pedal. It includes "Drone" effect which adds sympathetic-buzzing string sound.

  • Now AX1G has been discontinued. But AX3G or AX5G has same effect and which is still on sale now.

  • Yes. It seems both Indian and Vietnamese music can be expressed well with a scalloped guitar.

    Nice job sir. Lovely playing.

  • @OneBigRetard only south indian music can be expressed with a scalloped guitar. south indian music can use chromatic placement of frets, north indian cannot

  • do dien guii tar ma choi moi bai buon ngu chet di dc

  • it was actually the Vietnamese that invented the scalloped neck, there were actually real big legends at the time, although there was never any recording, its now a lost art, thank god this guy is bringing it back.

  • Hi Mr.RR5GUITAR. Thanks for your comment. But your recognition is not true. In Vietnam, there are a lot of musicians who play this kind of guitar now. And Mr.Kim Sinh(the originator of Vietnamese Guitar) is still active now. He has recorded some albums, too. On youtube, we can find some videos which are taken Vietnamese people who play this kind of guitar. Please check my "Vietnamese guitar" playlist on my youtube channel. view_play_list?p=4D68581B92E7F18B Thanks.
  • @RR5GUITARyngwie malmsteen is well known for using one....for quite a while

  • wow... cool

  • Do you have tabs for it? I would loved to try it! =)

  • bravo!

  • to me it has a centeral asian flavour

  • Yup this type of music Cai Loung originated from vietnam so its more of south east type of asian music.

  • wow! that's wicked! I've had a go at the oriental scale but couldn't get it to work. Really really good.. The bass notes realy make it work.

  • awsome

  • Why are asians ALWAYS good at guitar!

  • they like to practice at things they like maybe .... ?

  • the same reason that foreign movies are always amazing; you don't get to see the crap cause no one bothers to import it/show people overseas

  • good question..

  • Some people just have to accept that they are good at everything...

  • @xheartshapebox

    What about Herman Li?

  • You are so cool.

  • This is Great!

  • THAT is fucking metal. Not really but idk i just felt like describing it as such.

  • Its like the eastern blues....F YEAH!!!

  • That's fantastic man! Traditional AND progressive. Keep posting and ignore the negative remarks. Bad guitar players are a hateful bunch. Great work.

  • riteofstrings, what a GREAT screen name! :)

  • That was good! Exotic sounding. Yet not to difficult for the western ear to listen too.

  • I'd have a select few of the frets scalloped. Preferably the higher frets :D.

  • It's people like Kingdom777866 who make me ashamed to be British.

  • wow. this is great!

  • Comment removed

  • I'm sorry. Did you have an accident in your pants?

The control over your playing is amazing, Torigoya.

  • Utta Shite!!!

  • Oh poor Mr.kingdon777866,i bet u got a dick's size problem or somethin that's why u r a dickhead, this gentelman is awesome with his guitar skill,do u even play guitar at all?I bet u not or as just little as your dick! Hah??If he's crap and u are his crap then! Sorry for others who read this post, this guy got me nut!

  • and i quote "Utta Shite"....."fock off"........clearly you cant "write properly" either

  • aln, don't waste your valuable time with that dimwit kingdump. Simple fact is you're better than he is; he knows it, and it eats him up inside to face his inferiority. And it's easy to prove: you speak another language AND english - he can't. Peace. :)

  • Thank you,it's nice that you remind me this,i actually realized that's going no where to keep this on,in fect it makes me feel bad too to be mad at him.Alright man now i'm done with this and be happy.Peace ;)

  • oi penis breath

i dont see you playing a sitarcaster or making anything that is even close to how good this is.

take your head out of your arse dipstick

  • I miss my country when listening to your song. Nice job.

  • Not everyone on Youtube lives in Britain...

Just because he's not in Vietnam doesn't mean he's in Britain.

  • sitarcaster

  • DUDE that is the truth

  • @binladensassassin sorta like a shamisen too.

  • woot, vietpride even in a guitar

  • yuichi onoue is so beast <3

  • sounds like a sitar to me.. thats pretty cool

  • It ain't about the speed, man.

  • Where can I hear more of this style?

  • He has a song called Autumn which is similar in style.

  • This is probably the only guy on youtube were you could listen to this type of traditional vietnamese folk playing like this. While the real playing you might get bored of.But if you wanted to try to find sum go on youtube and type Cai Luong guitar playing or sumthin like that just remember to put cai loung or voung co.

  • dude... i made this song up first!!!! ill even post it to prove it!! haha.. kidding kidding.. at first it sounded out of tune.. ut the more i listen to it.. the more unique it sounds.. i love the sound of the guitar!! nicely done.

  • hellz yeah viet music pride!

  • AWESOME!!!

  • That was absolutely beautiful.

  • sitarcaster

  • classic!!!

  • :D it was great!!!!

  • Add a Big Muff and you got it!

  • sounds like sitar

  • extreme scalloped? it doesnt matter if you play an neck with deep scallops. If you have one with only 4mm deep cuts, its enough. if your fingers dont touch the fretboard its all the same. but I think he just wanted it to sound like a sitar, and I believe the real indian sitars are deeper scalloped.

  • sitars arent even scalloped, the frets are just brass dowel that are curved over the neck and essentially float. there are loads of sympathetic strings behind them so you wouldnt touch the fret board (not that there is a fret board)

  • sounds like one of those indian guitar things

  • u mean a sitar?

  • haha can u give me any awesome Vietnamese guitarists to look up?

  • i love this song so much reminds me of the time i recorded a koto session with a tape recorder off of pbs; i would walk around in highschool playing it until the tape got fxxrd.

    -hero

  • thats really cool man, what a strange sound for a guitar...

  • makes me want to break out the ol' dremil tool and get to work on a guitar!

  • Impressive. Much enjoyed that tune. Would be nice if this kind of sound could be accomplished through a guitar synth, possibly one of the roland models. Keep up the good work.

  • it can be attained with the boss gt-10 :) its got a patch called sitar or vio-guitar or something like that

  • wooo prettty sickkk. hey you should show us a close up of the fretboard. i doubt i'll be seeing one of those in real life lol

  • You can see it on the video of my another vietnamese guitar tune called "Autumn' Noppara". Search "Autumn' Noppara".

Then , you can see the enlarged photos of this guitar on middle of that video.

  • woah it sounds so indian or egypt-ish

  • Asian sounding guitar riffs sound really cool!

did really sound like a foreign instrument.. really cool!!

  • this is awesome!

  • it sounds like sitar!

  • the style played is somewhat like the chinese instrument which is kinda like a guitar but it sits up...

  • That was amazing.

  • This guy's bending is the coolest I've ever heard. It makes Clapton sound like he's playing a leafblower!

  • WOW amazing sound!

  • Buzzing frets rock! Also, you get one of those

guitars by filing down the fingerboard between the fret wires for the first 12 frets

  • Nice. Great fingerstyle playing.

  • Where can i get one of those guitars?!!?!?!

  • you have to go to vietnam to get this.

  • that was great!

  • no man. dat shit was COOOOOLLLLLL!!!!

  • in Vietnamese style music the strings are usually kept pretty loose so they can get that old Vietnamese folk sound(which incorporates buzzing frets to a certain degree)

  • ma nn si kiamano vietnamiti gli abitanti del vietnam?

  • WHere CAN I DOWNLOAD THIS!?!?!

  • Wow Thats Really Scalloped i can hear it

  • i never get boring of this piece!!!

  • Apparently you are one musically retard vietnamese. It is a major instrument in the whole south of vietnam for traditonal music. Looks like you are one poor beggar in music.

  • Yes it't traditional music, kinda like folk song :)

But this song is not really pretty, I've listened to some same kind but much better song than this
