Good to see people still responding to this ... keep wearing the leather and we'll make it 'fashionable' to others (we already know it's fashionable!) Still had no negative comments from people about my leather pants (which I still wear every week) since I last posted on here 12 months ago. So ... to anyone worried about what other might be thinking, remember that the chances are they're either not thinking anything at all or just wish they had the guts to wear them! @oOoDaEnGoOo no specific suggestions. but may I suggest finding leather pants that you like based on the quality of the hide, then if they need some work, take them to a shop that does custom altering, like any drycleaner, which usually have the expertise to do whatever you want, like making them form fitting

You cannot say there's no difference between denim and leather 501 pants! of course there is. Leather is more sexy. You just love the feeling of it, its brightness, even its smell. Many people do associate it to gays or bikers. They are fools. Leather is warmer, more comfortable than any other kind of material... and u can have a nice look in it, be a man or a woman. I'm straight, have no bike... and wear leather pants, even in office. The most I got was "wooow" and "all you need now is a bike".
@natan1234 The truth is, ALL men would LOVE to wear leather pants, and MOST men are just too shy to do so. Not talking about price -- leather pants are 5-10 times more expensive than denim. And they are worth the difference. Denim 501 is just "hasbeen", once you have tasted leather, and compared the look and feeling.
I basically wear leather pants all the time (except when it is really warm) and I have heard every stupid comment out there already. Leather pants may not be everyones taste, but they are far more comfortable then denim jeans. Problem is, however, that people associate leather pants on a man with gay/biker/alto/rockstar because those groups wear them on a slightly higher profile. Search youtube on 'leather pants men' and allmost all you get is gay guys showing off their buts...

At grade 9 when I started wearing a leather jacket for school, a lot of people had a problem with it. Mainly because it is a small town and everyone dresses the same, like hoods. After awhile people started to imitated my style of clothing by getting fake leather jackets. When I told them that a average leather jacket costs at least $200.00 they wanted to buy my jacked off for $40 bucks.

I am a guy who is 26 years old and i love leather. I wear a leather jacket with gloves in autumn/winter but wear with caution because a lot of people i know hate leather and thinks it looks ridiculous. No way would i wear trousers in public. I feel very comfortable in them and they feel awesome. But i wish i had the balls to go out and show people. I love dressing in head to toe in leather in the comfort at home. I wish more and more guys will wear leather trousers and show them off outside.

I suspect the people you know that hate leather, likely hate it because they are Pro-life for cows, lamb or whatever animal your jacket come from. This truly has to be the most immature reason for hating leather. Animals are not being killed for your clothing, they are first being raised for food. And in the whole process of killing the animal it only makes sense to use as much of the "product" and maximize its use.

@sportriderseattle They often challenge the fact that am i over-dressed in a warm climate in asia, actually i was quite concern before buying a pair of real leather pants as i had a pair of PU leather pants n that one is truly unbreathable and hot. But when i got my pair recently, it's actually not hot at all (the Ross episode in FRIENDS is over dramatized), it stays exactly as how my normal denim jeans does. Cant wait to flaunt it during this x'mas, it's definitely a privilege to wear them!

My girlfriend cant stand them, if she loved leather, it would be so much easier. She wears leather gloves, and a jacket once in a blue moon, but i really hope one day she will wear leather more and more. Well said... what IS the deal? You're a gentleman. I wear my leather jeans out and about all the time, and nobody really seems to take any notice. Those who do notice, it's really funny to see their eyes drop, then there is that nano second where a hundred pre-judgements and common-sense counter-arguments are flying through their brains. Because they wish that they had the guts and the individuality to wear them too, but they're scared conformists.

I like wearing leather pants. They look good, they smell good, they feel good, and they sound cool. And they last a long time. I wear them when I'm riding a motorcycle, when I'm doing yard work (they're thorn proof!), when I go to a party, we go to a concert, when I go to a bar, etc. And yes, I am gay. And proud of it.

Wow it is amazing how many people feel this way. I am straight , got a pair of Nice soft leather jeans off eBay that fit great, but at this point would not dare wear them out of the house. I love the feel of wearing them. No way I have the guts to wear them out.

Leather pants are an amazing image. I'm a male, STRAIGHT, with no issues against homosexuals. I wish the world would get their heads out of a certain place and realize that leather pants aren't just for females. Bikers wear them, rockstars in the 70s-late 80s wore them, nothing wrong. Thank you for bringing up this issue. I bought my first pair of leather pants in 1998 and I do like the look of them. It certainly is attention-getting just because of the way the material looks-- that part I am fine with. It's the stereotyping of men who wear leather pants that is annoying as you pointed out. This wasn't so bad when I started wearing them in 1998 but today I get the sense that there is more stigma attached to men wearing them. This doesn't stop me but it is annoying.
I never worry about what people think or say. I am not any particular stereo type. I love wearing leather jeans that I purchased from Ultimate Leather Co., UK. They were custom made and fit perfect. I love the feel of leather next to my skin and the look of leather. Because I do not wear underwear and leather can not be washed like other materials, I have worn them only for short periods around the house and locally.
Well, the difference between leather pants and non-leather pants is that leather pants are...leather. They're shinier and because they catch and reflect the light more, they garner more notice. That's all fine, and you look great in your leather pants. But they're just a little special, that's all.

I wear leather jeans when I go out at night, clubs, concerts, etc. I don't get much negative reaction, but I think it's because I'm hairy, have long hair & a beard, people think I'm a biker or a rocker.

Interesting and curious. I got my first pair of black leather pants in my early 20's. Fuckn' loved 'em. Did not ride a bike at the time and was not openly gay. Still, the reactions of others...'what?...LEATHER PANTS?!?'...and such made me feel like a bit of a freak when I wore them. I'm a married hetero guy in Canada and I wear my black leather pants often; today at my office in fact. Granted, living near Quebec, which is French, helps.
Do I care if anyone thinks it's wrong? No. In fact, one female manager here wears black leather pants/skirts often, but has never, until today, seen my leather pants. She saw me just as she was entering the elevator and her smile was completely positive, almost like a "hey you too!" kind of thing.

What I hate so much about this issue is the "emperors clothes" aspect, meaning that even though leather is something that most people like [jackets, shoes, couches, wallets, etc], because there is a cultural "thing" about leather pants, most people can't, or don't want to, bring themselves to see that they are just pants made of leather - nothing more.

Yes, you're probably right about high profile guys needing to wear leather jeans to help jumpstart the fashion trend. The problem is they do from time to time, but then people say, as sportriderseattle puts it in his video, that "you have to be a celebrity" to wear them. The average joe on the street who enjoys leather jeans need to wear them too to help break stereotypes.
Yesterady, I saw an African-American man in his mid-40s at the grocery store in leather pants and a matching leather sweater. He looked really sharp. It reminded me of how the black community is so much more accepting of leather fashion on men than Euro-Americans are. That's an interesting contrast given all of the average joe European men shown on TV wearing leather pants in other YouTube posts. Wish white guys in the USA could get rid of this fashion stigma.

It is so hard for me to find a good pair because i have a 32 waist and a 35 inseam. so not too common a size in leather on ebay, and not too many other places ive looked. Hey what a great common-sense video. Leather jeans are incredibly practical, they can be worn with a polo shirt or T shirt in summer, a pullover in winter, and look really smart with a dinner jacket, formal shirt and bow-tie.

I can't really steer you anywhere specific as these leathers are 2nd hand gear, which I got off ebay. So with that only recommendation would be to only bid on items on ebay if they have really good, clear and close-up photos where you can see the quality of the hide and cut...There's a lot of crap out there.
My best leather pants to date are Guccis bought from Ebay. They are so great, I even wear 'em to my gov't office.
One minor interesting thing is I could tell my coworkers were just about to give me the business for wearing them until someone mentioned "hey those are Gucci!!". In an instant, it was all OK. They must think if I bought them at a fleamarket, it's just a foolist whim, but if I spent more than an Armani suit [yep...], I must know what I'm doing. In any case, who knows? :)

You cannot say there's no difference between denim and leather 501 pants! of course there is. Leather is more sexy. You just love the feeling of it, its brightness, even its smell. I basically wear leather pants all the time (except when it is really warm) and I have heard every stupid comment out there already. Leather pants may not be everyones taste, but they are far more comfortable then denim jeans. Problem is, however, that people associate leather pants on a man with gay/biker/alto/rockstar because those groups wear them on a slightly higher profile. At grade 9 when I started wearing a leather jacket for school, a lot of people had a problem with it. Mainly because it is a small town and everyone dresses the same, like hoods. After awhile people started to imitated my style of clothing by getting fake leather jackets. I am a guy who is 26 years old and i love leather. I wear a leather jacket with gloves in autumn/winter but wear with caution because a lot of people i know hate leather and thinks it looks ridiculous. No way would i wear trousers in public. I feel very comfortable in them and they feel awesome. But i wish i had the balls to go out and show people. I love dressing in head to toe in leather in the comfort at home. I wish more and more guys will wear leather trousers and show them off outside.

This truly has to be the most immature reason for hating leather. Animals are not being killed for your clothing, they are first being raised for food. But when i got my pair recently, it's actually not hot at all (the Ross episode in FRIENDS is over dramatized), it stays exactly as how my normal denim jeans does. Thank you for bringing up this issue. I bought my first pair of leather pants in 1998 and I do like the look of them. It certainly is attention-getting just because of the way the material looks-- that part I am fine with. It's the stereotyping of men who wear leather pants that is annoying as you pointed out. This wasn't so bad when I started wearing them in 1998 but today I get the sense that there is more stigma attached to men wearing them. This doesn't stop me but it is annoying.

they are BLACK leather pants. hehe. but seriously, the ones that I am wearing are "The Original Leather Line of New York", they are probably atleast 20 years old. The other leather pants I show are from Germany and don't have a maker's label.

Those leather pants are 20 years old! I would have thought they were brand new. They look that way. That's one more advantage of leather pants over levis. They last forever, levi jeans don't.

well said,it seems that everything is gay now,you want to wear leather pants ?? oh my god you'r gay...you want to wear a short denim jacket ?? or something a bit bright in color ?? you must also be gay...truth be told,to be a guy is not fun and we don't have much choices, it all depends how you wear it (i think),i'am a straight guy,wear leather jeans occasionaly and i totaly agree with you.

I'm also a straight guy who's enjoyed wearing leather jeans for a number of years. I think they look cool and wish they'd become more of a mainstream fashion again like they were in Europe a couple of years back. I get those looks and comments like the rest of you do. Now I know why. Youtube is full of gay leather fetish videos that make it look like wearing leather jeans must be a gay thing. Wish more straight guys would post leather jean videos to combat the stereotype.

thanks for your reply Leatherpastor,sadly it's all about fashion,it probably would help if some high profile guys(celebrity,sports)would wear leather jeans in a normal fashion way....i guess it would help a lot,anyway happy to know that i'am not the only one....

Yes, you're probably right about high profile guys needing to wear leather jeans to help jumpstart the fashion trend. The problem is they do from time to time, but then people say, as sportriderseattle puts it in his video, that "you have to be a celebrity" to wear them. The average joe on the street who enjoys leather jeans need to wear them too to help break stereotypes.

Yesterady, I saw an African-American man in his mid-40s at the grocery store in leather pants and a matching leather sweater. He looked really sharp. It reminded me of how the black community is so much more accepting of leather fashion on men than Euro-Americans are. That's an interesting contrast given all of the average joe European men shown on TV wearing leather pants in other YouTube posts. Wish white guys in the USA could get rid of this fashion stigma.

Leather pants are very stylish and look great on men; more should wear them. It's just such a shame that most people don't have any style at all!!

I blame Freddy Mercury. Seriously, i mean he was pretty gay and he not only wore leather pants but he wore them pretty poorly. I mean i'm not a expert on mens leather pants, but i don't think having agrandpa waistline has ever worked to anybodies advantages, couple that with the fact leather pants were already questionable, and BAM!!

I agree! I am a biker and I only wear leather pants when I ride my motorcycle along with a leather jacket. I STILL get strange looks walking into a restaurant or at the gas station. I am carrying my helmet and gloves and obviously rode a motorcycle. But people look at me like I have two heads or something. The attention is unusual.

lederhosens were the ORIGINAL jeans. blue jeans were a cheap substitute after the cowboy days. Afterwards the media earmarked leather pants into the pit of BDSM, the Nazi Regime, and probably most infamously homosexuality. Maybe we need badass slogan for Leather Pants: FOR REAL MEN

Thank you Thank you Thank you. Makes perfect sense to me, but like you said so many other people have a hang up with it. It is so hard for me to find a good pair because i have a 32 waist and a 35 inseam. so not too common a size in leather on ebay, and not too many other places ive looked. But thanks for the inspiration and breaking through those social barriers that are put in place for no reason at all!

Hey what a great common-sense video. Leather jeans are incredibly practical, they can be worn with a polo shirt or T shirt in summer, a pullover in winter, and look really smart with a dinner jacket, formal shirt and bow-tie.

I can't really steer you anywhere specific as these leathers are 2nd hand gear, which I got off ebay. So with that only recommendation would be to only bid on items on ebay if they have really good, clear and close-up photos where you can see the quality of the hide and cut...There's a lot of crap out there.

My best leather pants to date are Guccis bought from Ebay. They are so great, I even wear 'em to my gov't office.
One minor interesting thing is I could tell my coworkers were just about to give me the business for wearing them until someone mentioned "hey those are Gucci!!". In an instant, it was all OK. They must think if I bought them at a fleamarket, it's just a foolist whim, but if I spent more than an Armani suit [yep...], I must know what I'm doing. In any case, who knows? :)

I wear leather pants for several reasons. First-I love leather and number two-to piss off those who have a problem with guys in leather pants. The more they hate it, the more I weat it.

A great commentary. I've been trying to understand for ever what society's hang up is with leather pants and I still don't get it. There is no logic to be had - only stupid stereotypes. Aren't we supposed to be past that?
It's like every scenario of someone wearing leather pants is judged on a different scale:
-A woman: mostly OK
-A black woman: definitely OK
-An older woman: risky
-A white male: forget it - unacceptable
-A black male: risky
-Any rockstar: ideal
-Any biker: ideal

you are absolutely right! i have a pair of leather pants and find them comfortable and a practical material that is durable and to be honest, damn sexy!
though i do not yet have the confidence to wear them out which is such a shame.
like minded people such as yourself are doing a great job of breaking the stigmas connected to wearing leather pants. be it gay or rock star.
i want to wear what the hell i like!

I don't understand why some people think guys who wear leather pants are gay. I have seen celebrities like Justin Timberlake, Chris Cagle and Will Smith wear leather pants. All three men aren't gay.
