  • I cant wait for a law to be enacted keeping people from taking photographs of private property without authorization from the property owner. I'm tired of these freaks out there abusing their rights. Honestly I think everyone should ask before snapping a photograph... because all it is, is a frame that a "photographer" can attach a story too. Remember, people are stupid and will believe any story you tell them... as long as you have a picture. Ever heard the saying "seeing is believing?"

  • Great job guys standing your ground and knowing your rights! !

  • Can tourists get to the top of the tower???

  • Kudos to the second security guy, who engaged in a discussion, with resorting to the power games that the first security guy was trying.

  • why the fuck are you morons taking pictures of a bank anyway? I think you guys have nothing better to do with your worthless lives except annoy people with your cameras. Get a job. You people purposely walk around with a camera because you know it will attract un wanted attention thus giving you a reason to play the victim when confronted.

  • u are my hero..... I hate da fact dat security guards think they can do watever they want...... keep up wit da great work n ii hope 2 see more great videos =D!!!!!!!!

  • u are my hero..... I hate da fact dat security guards think they can do watever they want...... keep up wit da great work n ii hope 2 see more great videos =D!!!!!!!!

  • And you still wonder why you got beat up as a kid.

  • @clintkirkness

i was beat up as a kid?

hmm...that's the first i'm hearing about that

  • LOOK GUYS, the sad fact is that MANY security guards are not the sharpest pencils in the drawer. Couple that with some TWAT that works in building management probably telling them that they will be fired for allowing pictures to be taken. While these guys ARE misguided, they ARE just doing what they are ORDERED to do. They probably make minimum wage and dont want to lose their jobs. DONT BLAME THEM, blame the property manager!!

  • Geesh...I can't even count the number of times I've gotten in trouble for walking around with a camera. We need to unite and FIGHT THIS INJUSTICE!

  • Hi there.

    I have a legal question.

As the photographers/reporters are on the sidewalk, i..e public place, couldn't they have called the police and got the security guards arrested for harrassment or infringement of human rights, or any other laws? The security guards were in effect out of their "jurisdiction" and therefore had no power in "public space" and off private property were in fact the "public" and not security guards..

    Thank you.

  • @stapley12 AFAIK this is actually what happened. The photographers called the police and they helped to sort out this situation. Bank Tower security now hands out courtesy cards for photographers that state their policy. It is, of course, still totally legal to film from a public space.

  • AS a Maguire stockholder I am disappointed in the behavior of these guards.

  • @vasifka Stupid comment is stupid

  • robbers is the last thing i would worry about. terrorist is the thing today....

  • those guards were retarded. apperently they didnt know the laws or were full of shit. i hold my rights to photograph on city streets and if the security guards did me wrong i would go after the company.

  • that uppity nigger needs to go back to the jungle

  • he is much more better than these jerks, and YOU! and how would you feel when these jerk cameras will take your photo in your nose??? will you feel good? you dumb ass rassist

  • rassist? lol!

  • what the hell is the point of taking pictures of a building? whats that going to accomplish? ofcourse the idiot reporters want to catch the attention of management. The Security guards should of removed all of you physically onto the street.

  • looks like our high school diploma wielding security guard buddy can't stop commenting...barking away as usual just like the powerless security guards in this video

are all security guards just bark and no bite?

oh yeah that's right they are because they have zero authority to actually enforce anything!

  • Amazing how corporate elite think the own everything, just because they rule our government. The NWO, global elites want to watch us 24/7, but they don't want us to watch them. The whole terrorism thing was bu!!sh!t, to take away our freedoms. 9-11 was an inside job !

  • is their job to threaten people with an unlawful/illegal/false arrest for performing a legal activity?

we even told the guards to call the cops and they wouldn't, so we did and when LAPD was on the phone, patrick silver and his SG pals refused to talk to the real cops.

    is photography suspicious to you?

  • haha you rock

  • first, the bank tower or library tower is like the walk of fme ,hollywood sign, city hall, the binocular building,etc...it's a landmark!!! second, it's a really cool building! third, it's mentioned as one of the terror plans the Bush admin disrupted so yeah it might have a security issue but hey like the US capitol, whitehouse, empire state building,etc..it's just building,in plin sight on a public street so there, finl photograph it all u want, ask them how they harrassed the google van!!!!

  • its a shame

  • wow,the photographers are such wooses,if they want a pic why the fuck don,t they just run up the steps and go in.

They are just too nice, like little old ladies.

  • hahaha right like little old ladies

  • I believe your concerns are being addressed by the wrong people. Wouldn't you contact that property management staff instead of usbank. USbank most likely rents the building.

  • We did that.

  • Never heard of US Bank.... dont care either... you'll find me in the hood....

  • If this was NYC.The police would arrive and the photographers would be arrested and cited for impeading the flow of pedestrian traffic on the sidewalk, disturbing the peace, assembling without a permit, disorderly conduct. I am not kidding. Even if you are right, if you are arrested, you will spend 36 hours in central booking, have to hire an attorney... at the very least pay a fine. In London, the cops will just shoot you.

  • The guards try to intimidate the people just like the cops did Rodney King in the 90's.

  • The pigs did more than intimdating...

  • By the way,you can take pictures of anyone or anything while you are in a public area/sidewalks!

  • no, my friend you can take pics of buildings but you can´t take pictures of ladie´s asses for instance, if u do it and they are recognized in public you´d be fucked up lol

another totally diferent thing is if u are a famous person...

  • What professional photographers go out and take pictures of ladies asses?

  • actually you are wrong, you have full right to take pics of anyones ass and post it online or whereever.. candid shots of women are extremely legal and when in public theres nothing a woman can do to be safe from street photography...

  • Thousands of people visit the Empire State Building and nothing.People take pictures of Library Tower and securities pop out from every corner!

  • It's legal... right?

I posted a picture of the US Bank Tower's Lobby on the internet.

    That is perfectly legal.

  • I've seen the lobby before.

I guess they don't want us to take pictures of the ugly painting.

Pshht, if they don't want the picture to be taken, then they should MOVE the ugly painting into somewhere else, but not in FRONT of the lobby. And put something that isn't PRIVATE in FRONT of the lobby.

Why are people so rude and stupid nowadays?

  • The building is beautiful. The sign screaming US Bank is awful!

  • I hate US Bank.

    Library Tower was better.

US Bank thinks they can rule the land of Los Angeles for being the tallest, and putting the stupid sign on top of it.

    They're kind of dumb.

They don't deserve to be in LA.

Library Tower should have observations and restaurants.

  • nice jobs guys.. sadly this is all too common in America now ..

  • I must agree one security officer did do wrong on this video but the property management company should not be the blame for his actions. Just a thought.

  • The banks always have the nicest, tallest buildings in town.

  • "Those who would give up Essential Liberty, to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety" Benjamin Franklin

  • Comment removed

  • What is really pathetic are people who would have us give up our legal rights and freedoms for no good reason. Jesse James did not need cameras to case the banks he was going to rob and neither do any terrorists need cameras to case their targets. Preventing photography from public property does NOTHING to enhance security while it does EVERYTHING to interfere with our civil rights. It is unfortunate and unacceptable 9-11 has become the catch-all excuse for authorities to restrict freedom.

  • After 9-11 the government told us to return to the lives we had before 9-11. Are you saying that applies to everyone EXCEPT photographers? I take pictures of architecture and trains - I do not take pictures of children puking in living rooms and I refuse to allow my camera to become an expensive paperweight.

  • Grow up. Eight years is too long to cower under your sheets from some boogie man that ain't there. You have a better chance of being killed crossing the street than to be in a terrorist attack. You probably have a better chance of being struck by lightening.

You want to live your life in fear, that's your business.

Do yourself a favor, and be afraid of those that want to control you.

  • How does the entire security staff standing on the sidewalk talking to photographers promote security?

What does a photograph taken on the sidewalk do for terrorists that google maps and google earth and the photos on their website wouldn't do?

What would a terrorist even do with a photograph? Throw darts at it?

  • HAHAHAH!! Best response yet!!

  • "take my damn face off this page, or when i see your on the streets, will be flying, shit happens and things will be an blurr"

Can't enforce rules, can't get the cops to back him up, can't get a real job, can't spell, can't write a sentence, and can't scare us.

  • a security guard's responsibility is to observe and report. they were not doing that here. and they had an opportunity to speak with the police but they refused to

so the supposed relationship between the guards and LAPD was non-existent that day

we are grateful, but only when guards follow the law, and do not threaten people with arrest when doing something legal

i mentioned this already, but photography was not used in 9/11, the Madrid bombings, Oklahoma City, etc

  • Janitors have more class and better pay than security guards :)

  • These guys have no power to do anything or they would have done something a long time ago. The can't grab a camera, they can't take a roll of film, and apparently they can't even get the real cops to do anything.

And if they have to posted their complaint on Youtube, they apparently can not even get a lawyer to serve notice.

  • Hey Maguire Properties. You piece of shit. We know that it is the Security Guards posting on here and not the actual owners.

  • Please remove these videos of our employees, they were on duty and were given instructions.

Kindly remove this video or action will be taken.

  • I'm sorry but we have every legal right to keep these videos posted here. Everything was shot from a public sidewalk and viewable from public property and completely legal.

  • Comment removed

  • so which guard are you?

  • That sounds like a threat. That is a crime even on the internet.

  • discarted,

I would contact police with this obvious threat.

  • MaguireProperties: Bullshit.

It was filmed from public property, they don't have to.

Good luck - the constitution is against you.

(yeah, this post I am replying to posted back in February, but still pisses me off regardless of how old it is)

  • Then put the photographers on a watch list.

I am a photographer, those jack asses are just punks!

Wait till the security guards union gets involved, you think the photographers can stage a demonstration!

  • Another photographer...awesome!

We would love to see some of your work. Please share. It sounds like you have some decent material.

As far as I know these guards don't belong to a union, but the ACLU is involved.

Look them up. They're a group that helps photographers (among other things) like ourselves, when our rights are violated while taking photos from a public sidewalk.

Bush is gone and so are the watch lists.

  • And as far as cops detaining photographers is concerned - that does happen and is the reason that the NYCLU is currently suing the NYPD and the NPPA is considering similar action against Amtrak Police. Photographers who have been detained have received cash settlements in the thousands. Bring it on - Detain me - I could use a new Nikon D700 at taxpayer expense!!!

  • The security guards union?

That must be like the deep fryer engineers union.

  • What you don't understand is that the US Bank Tower is the biggest terrorist target in the real estate industry west of the Mississippi. As far as I'm concerned, yes it's legal for the photographers to be there, but the security team has the right to question them & call the police to report suspicious activity. Then the police should make an example out of the doushebag photographers and take them into headquarters to strip search them, detain them for hours and review every picture they took!

  • How do you know this?

"What you don't understand is that the US Bank Tower is the biggest terrorist target in the real estate industry west of the Mississippi."

Also, the US Bank Tower guards refused to call the cops, so we did, and guess what, the guards REFUSED TO TALK TO THE REAL COPS while we had them on the phone -- twice!

Wanna know what the REAL COPS told us -- it's a free country do what you want.

Also, for cops to look at anything we shot they need a court order.

    Learn the law.

  • i want you to realize that Maguire Properties, the company that manages the US Bank Tower, has numerous images of the Tower on there website

So if what you said is true:

"What you don't understand is that the US Bank Tower is the biggest terrorist target in the real estate industry west of the Mississippi."

Then why post photos of the Tower on the internet where the terrorists can see them

Do you know photography was not used to help plan 911, the Madrid bombings, Oklahoma City, etc.

  • The Library Tower is also the tallest building in LA and therefore a photogenic tourist attraction. Banning photography of the site is as if New York had banned photography of the Empire State Building. The security excuse is a bunch of BULL!

  • Shay2n10 is a Dumb Shit

  • O M F G... OK.. so photography.. to take pictures,.... NOT TO FKNG TAKE 7534 PICTURES OF ONE FKNG SUBJECT, HARASSING THE CELEBRITIES, COMPANIES, SERIOUSLY... Get an life, take 1,2 or maybe 3 pictures and then get thE FK OUT OF THEIR WAY, i PLEDGE to start an legal protest against the stupidity of photographers... hey, i got an idea! lets SWARM an photographer eating his lunch...YEAH! that sounds fun!, lets FLASH HUNDREDS OF LIGHTS at an photographer and his child playing in the park!

  • you come off as a complete moron who can't spell or write correctly.

    1. this video and what we did has nothing to do with celebrities or paps. but our basic rights, and your rights for that matter. your jumbled rant is nonsensical and completely unrelated.

  • 2. do you even live in LA? do you know that the paps and celebrities and their "people" actually work together to keep celebrities' name in the public? friends, agents, managers, and even the celebrities themselves will contact paps to let them know where they will be. stop regurgitating stories you've heard from friends or whoever you're getting your info from and formulate original thoughts. and turn off TMZ.

  • 3. if you're on a public sidewalk and some stranger comes up to you and tells you what you can and can not do, and it's all based on bullshit, what are you gonna do? you seem like a really angry person so i'm guessing you'll simply put your tail between your legs and walk away while quietly screaming nonsense to yourself in a fit of rage.

  • 4. why is 1, 2, or 3 shots okay but anymore is unacceptable to you? do you know that we weren't even able to take your acceptable limit of 3 shots before we were accosted by the US Bank Tower guards.

you come on here and rant nonsense, so i would really like to see you answer the above 3 questions, however, i think you won't be able to.

take some anger management classes and keep sending in those comments on my profile page. those are great.

  • 2,428 characters for my "reply" it wouldn't let me reply, So I guess I'll have to keep my answer short. I hate National enquirer,TMZ, etc, seeing their mag covers(not reading) with rude celebrity pics n phrases, nearly everyweek at the store is the source of the "angry rant", I took too much anger out, and for that I do apologize, I live in washington state, not california, If someone orders me around thats not legal, i'd kick em in the nuts, figure a way to take pics without pissing them off.

  • we were on a public sidewalk doing our thing and the guards left private property to confront us on public property so...

it's hypocritical of you to say...

"If someone orders me around thats not legal, i'd kick em in the nuts"

so what would've you done to these guards if they came up to you and started harassing you while you were on a public sidewalk doing something that is completely legal?

with your foot in your mouth, you probably won't answer the question

  • good job, guys

  • Those security guards are usually losers that couldn't become cops, or are trying to get their permit to carry. Look at how they talk they are complete fat head's

  • It's understandable to protest and defend your rights, but then your protest simply degrades into reversing the harassment on the cops themselves. It's different from protesting becuase now you're just trying to prove you're right without coming to an understanding.

  • I meant security guards, not cops.

  • Great job guys!! we need to stand up

  • The security guards can't stop anyone from taking pictures, they can't confiscate cameras, and they can't get the cops to back them up -- all they can do is harass people. So the best thing to do is ignore them. Of course, that's a lot easier to do with a big group.

  • Those photographers have a right to pitch tents and live on that sidewalk....the courts have ruled so.

  • SWEET, that is an understatement...

  • spigaspiga01

signing up on January 24th, 2009 just so you can't leave a comment here, and watch only this video out of the millions on youtube...

do you work for US Bank Tower? Maguire Properties? United Protective Services?

  • You should go burn an American flag since you seem to hate the principles America was founded on.

  • Good job, and good video. Just got a new subscriber ;)

  • You guys are the worst protesters in the world...

Mind you, you're correct, and I have no problem with confronting the "corporate powers that be" about their bullshit. But good lord, get your damn stories straight and stop asking some poor security guard to answer for his boss.

  • well, you say were' correct, but then just a few words later you tell us to get our stories straight...

what story needs straightening for you?
