LOOK GUYS, the sad fact is that MANY security guards are not the sharpest pencils in the drawer. Couple that with some TWAT that works in building management probably telling them that they will be fired for allowing pictures to be taken. While these guys ARE misguided, they ARE just doing what they are ORDERED to do. They probably make minimum wage and dont want to lose their jobs. DONT BLAME THEM, blame the property manager!!
As the photographers/reporters are on the sidewalk, i..e public place, couldn't they have called the police and got the security guards arrested for harrassment or infringement of human rights, or any other laws? The security guards were in effect out of their "jurisdiction" and therefore had no power in "public space" and off private property were in fact the "public" and not security guards..
@stapley12 AFAIK this is actually what happened. The photographers called the police and they helped to sort out this situation. Bank Tower security now hands out courtesy cards for photographers that state their policy. It is, of course, still totally legal to film from a public space.

The security was doing their job. abd the people on this video are just being ediotic even planing this. there was a threat to the tower, so any suspeciouse thing needs to be eliminated
is their job to threaten people with an unlawful/illegal/false arrest for performing a legal activity?
we even told the guards to call the cops and they wouldn't, so we did and when LAPD was on the phone, patrick silver and his SG pals refused to talk to the real cops.

I must agree one security officer did do wrong on this video but the property management company should not be the blame for his actions. Just a thought.
What is really pathetic are people who would have us give up our legal rights and freedoms for no good reason. Jesse James did not need cameras to case the banks he was going to rob and neither do any terrorists need cameras to case their targets. Preventing photography from public property does NOTHING to enhance security while it does EVERYTHING to interfere with our civil rights. It is unfortunate and unacceptable 9-11 has become the catch-all excuse for authorities to restrict freedom.
After 9-11 the government told us to return to the lives we had before 9-11. Are you saying that applies to everyone EXCEPT photographers? I take pictures of architecture and trains - I do not take pictures of children puking in living rooms and I refuse to allow my camera to become an expensive paperweight.
Grow up. Eight years is too long to cower under your sheets from some boogie man that ain't there. You have a better chance of being killed crossing the street than to be in a terrorist attack. You probably have a better chance of being struck by lightening.
You want to live your life in fear, that's your business.

a security guard's responsibility is to observe and report. they were not doing that here. and they had an opportunity to speak with the police but they refused to
so the supposed relationship between the guards and LAPD was non-existent that day
we are grateful, but only when guards follow the law, and do not threaten people with arrest when doing something legal
i mentioned this already, but photography was not used in 9/11, the Madrid bombings, Oklahoma City, etc
These guys have no power to do anything or they would have done something a long time ago. The can't grab a camera, they can't take a roll of film, and apparently they can't even get the real cops to do anything.
And if they have to posted their complaint on Youtube, they apparently can not even get a lawyer to serve notice.

Photographers who have been detained have received cash settlements in the thousands. Bring it on - Detain me - I could use a new Nikon D700 at taxpayer expense!!!
What you don't understand is that the US Bank Tower is the biggest terrorist target in the real estate industry west of the Mississippi. As far as I'm concerned, yes it's legal for the photographers to be there, but the security team has the right to question them & call the police to report suspicious activity. Then the police should make an example out of the doushebag photographers and take them into headquarters to strip search them, detain them for hours and review every picture they took!

you come off as a complete moron who can't spell or write correctly.
1. this video and what we did has nothing to do with celebrities or paps. but our basic rights, and your rights for that matter. your jumbled rant is nonsensical and completely unrelated.
2. do you even live in LA? do you know that the paps and celebrities and their "people" actually work together to keep celebrities' name in the public? friends, agents, managers, and even the celebrities themselves will contact paps to let them know where they will be. stop regurgitating stories you've heard from friends or whoever you're getting your info from and formulate original thoughts. and turn off TMZ.
3. if you're on a public sidewalk and some stranger comes up to you and tells you what you can and can not do, and it's all based on bullshit, what are you gonna do? you seem like a really angry person so i'm guessing you'll simply put your tail between your legs and walk away while quietly screaming nonsense to yourself in a fit of rage.
4. why is 1, 2, or 3 shots okay but anymore is unacceptable to you? do you know that we weren't even able to take your acceptable limit of 3 shots before we were accosted by the US Bank Tower guards.
you come on here and rant nonsense, so i would really like to see you answer the above 3 questions, however, i think you won't be able to.
take some anger management classes and keep sending in those comments on my profile page. those are great.
2,428 characters for my "reply" it wouldn't let me reply, So I guess I'll have to keep my answer short. I hate National enquirer,TMZ, etc, seeing their mag covers(not reading) with rude celebrity pics n phrases, nearly everyweek at the store is the source of the "angry rant", I took too much anger out, and for that I do apologize, I live in washington state, not california, If someone orders me around thats not legal, i'd kick em in the nuts, figure a way to take pics without pissing them off.
we were on a public sidewalk doing our thing and the guards left private property to confront us on public property so...
it's hypocritical of you to say...
"If someone orders me around thats not legal, i'd kick em in the nuts"
so what would've you done to these guards if they came up to you and started harassing you while you were on a public sidewalk doing something that is completely legal?
with your foot in your mouth, you probably won't answer the question
Those security guards are usually losers that couldn't become cops, or are trying to get their permit to carry. Look at how they talk they are complete fat head's
It's understandable to protest and defend your rights, but then your protest simply degrades into reversing the harassment on the cops themselves. It's different from protesting becuase now you're just trying to prove you're right without coming to an understanding.
The security guards can't stop anyone from taking pictures, they can't confiscate cameras, and they can't get the cops to back them up -- all they can do is harass people. So the best thing to do is ignore them. Of course, that's a lot easier to do with a big group.
Mind you, you're correct, and I have no problem with confronting the "corporate powers that be" about their bullshit. But good lord, get your damn stories straight and stop asking some poor security guard to answer for his boss.
I cant wait for a law to be enacted keeping people from taking photographs of private property without authorization from the property owner. I'm tired of these freaks out there abusing their rights. 2. do you even live in LA? do you know that the paps and celebrities and their "people" actually work together to keep celebrities' name in the public? friends, agents, managers, and even the celebrities themselves will contact paps to let them know where they will be. stop regurgitating stories you've heard from friends or whoever you're getting your info from and formulate original thoughts. and turn off TMZ.

3. if you're on a public sidewalk and some stranger comes up to you and tells you what you can and can not do, and it's all based on bullshit, what are you gonna do? you seem like a really angry person so i'm guessing you'll simply put your tail between your legs and walk away while quietly screaming nonsense to yourself in a fit of rage.

4. why is 1, 2, or 3 shots okay but anymore is unacceptable to you? do you know that we weren't even able to take your acceptable limit of 3 shots before we were accosted by the US Bank Tower guards.
you come on here and rant nonsense, so i would really like to see you answer the above 3 questions, however, i think you won't be able to.
take some anger management classes and keep sending in those comments on my profile page. those are great.

BentSlightly 3 years ago
It's understandable to protest and defend your rights, but then your protest simply degrades into reversing the harassment on the cops themselves. It's different from protesting becuase now you're just trying to prove you're right without coming to an understanding.

I meant security guards, not cops.

Great job guys!! we need to stand up

The security guards can't stop anyone from taking pictures, they can't confiscate cameras, and they can't get the cops to back them up -- all they can do is harass people. So the best thing to do is ignore them. Of course, that's a lot easier to do with a big group.

You should go burn an American flag since you seem to hate the principles America was founded on.

You guys are the worst protesters in the world...
Mind you, you're correct, and I have no problem with confronting the "corporate powers that be" about their bullshit. But good lord, get your damn stories straight and stop asking some poor security guard to answer for his boss.

well, you say were' correct, but then just a few words later you tell us to get our stories straight...
what story needs straightening for you?
