@STREETRACEN4U if your experiencing lack of power from your engine and reduced flow when you put your hand over the tail pipe pipe while someone revs the motor then i would suspect a clogged converter. generally the repair for this is to replace the converter. i guess you could cut the converter out of your exhaust and rip its guts out then weld it back into your exhaust system but in some places thats illegal
@ziprock ya, its been like that for a while now i have had no power what so ever. i go super slow and its very bad, i stalled out today it was that bad. but tommoro i am getting it fixed im getting a new catalytic converter for cheap hopefully and a new exhaust pipe and somebody i know is going to put it on for cheaper then a muffler shop would put it on for. also theres no e-check over where im at so it dont matter. but thanks for your help! i cant wait tilll ths is fixed!!
hey guys, i recently got my Civic running which has a carb on it, and it will idle then speed up and slow down without pressing on the gas pedal, backfire and then it will stall. What is causing this?
@TeenIronMan sorry bro? i actually came here looking for "free mods" and i didn't know that for a start, no need to call me a chode over something like that, just chill, yeah?
Great title! Got my attention. I also love your editing and effects. I've had such fits with my editing software thinking I'm a pirate I've all but given up.
@eric i have a 98 saturn sl1(sohc) and the throttle cable looks madd tight from what i can remember. from the top of the throttle body it does not have a long extended cable like yours do. its very small. i dont hink it was never messed with since the car was made, so if i chk the tension and its tooo tight should i loosen it to give a lillte slack?
@eric. hmmm now i gotta investigate. sometimes when i gas from a light the car kinda drags during take off for the first 3-4 seconds then smooths out (foot still pressed on gas pedal unitl it smooths out), then once that happens and i let up off the gas. slowing down the car idle surges from 1-1200 then slowly comes bakk down to 0.( sometimes jerk to a stop). do u think its a vac leak, or throttle cable?
@05greendmax lets the throttle move better i guess.. idk how it works but i did that on my dakota and i got like 1 or 2 mpg better, i was surprised, its weird
My 2000 silverado has no slack on the throttle body side, but inside of the truck the pedal can be pulled forward (towards the driver) about an inch and you can see the cable stay the same length. Idk how to adjust the inside part because it has a crimp to keep the end of the cable from going through the pedal end and loosing throttle.
2:49 So does that mean I can't make the throttle response quicker by only tightening up the throttle cable, if I have an automatic? I have to do more stuff?
I am used to working on my car, since I am a DIY kind of guy, but I totally forgot about something so simple... My car is much more pleasant to drive now!
my 95 tercel has a little jerk when it goes into 2nd gear. This is an automatic and the car only has 45,000 miles all the other gears shift fine, its just the first into second that jolts you a little. Any idea what it could be?
Honestly, performance upgrade is kind of misleading. This is more like, maintenance. That wire should be replaced if it has so much slack, not re-tightened. After having to push my car 4 blocks to a safe spot to leave it at because my throttle cable snapped at night, on a Sunday... I rather be safe than sorry, I also carry a spare in my trunk.
yeah my dad adjusted my throttle cable. because when the computer slows the idle down to 750-650 rpm in park. i put the transmission in drive, as soon as the gears connect. the idle goes down to 450rpm and then stalls. so my dad adjusted the cable. idles at 999 rpm in park and idles at 750 rpm in drive. and the throttle response is great. no problem at all. CharlesDeCapua
@Geeze104 Performance doesn;t simply mean more horsepower, it can also mean how the car performs. Throttle response could certainly be considered part of a car's performance. Good job showing how little you know, Go back to your cold air intake and loud muffler.
@Geeze104 he might be a ricer cuz he drives a honda but it was useful some people may have poor idle cuz of this or your sometimes you can push your pedal all the way down and your throttle might not open all the way cuz of this
Hey dude- My Hyundai Getz has a really sensitive gas pedal- Really Jerky when going slow- so do you reckon this will work if i do it the other way so i get less of a response from the pedal? Please answer :)
@TheWormGranny You might want to check for carbon build up around the throttle body as that could cause the throttle to stick and cause that problem. See the video I did on cleaning throttle bodies for more info.
@EricTheCarGuy what could i do to increase hp in my 1999 cavalier 2.2 l v4 ? i put a glass pack on it, I'm thinking about a cold air intake and open headers, what do you suggest?
@austinbanister lol you sound like you know absolutely nothing about vehicles.. Is this true? If so you should do private research so you don't make yourself look like a jackass on public "forum-like" post such as youtube comments... (I'm not trying to be a dick but might come off that way)
Wow. I just put my CRX in storage and wish it were out to check it. This will be one of the first things I will do when taking it out. You have any vids on how to get better pedal for your breaks. Everything is fine, pads, calipers, etc. it's not a soft pedal, but you just have to go down farther then normal to get good brake.
@Falewick They want cars that are reliable, economical and relatively easy/cheap to fix. They also want the same from their loaner cars normally too. Our old mechanic had a beat-up Volvo loan car. It ran well though. Today I'd probably go with a Toyota/Honda/Mazda hatch, but some people don't like smaller cars to drive around in.
cant thank you enough dude...my throttle was about as twice as loose as the one in the vid was, now my throttle is back to normal and it feels better to drive again
I got the little turn screw on my chevy. It's really easy but still a nice option. I thought my motor was shot till i did a tune up and look at the cable pretty much dangling.
@EricTheCarGuy I was suprised in the performance difference. I don't know if you know but I'm pretty sure you do that the 5.7 350's are notorious for the intake manifold leak. That's what I'm working on right now too. I'm in no big rush. First time i did it had everything unplugged and labeled in about 25 minutes took brackets and plates out of way and got the intake off in about 45 minutes. I don't think that's bad at all for being a 1st timer at it.
@000x7 dude, thats just dumb. your exhaust will be fucked if you do that..not to mention all the harmful shit you put into the atmosphere by removing it

@EricTheCarGuy my car didn't want to shift good, so I adjusted that cable, now my transmission makes a "thump" sound coasting to a stop; I think I ruined it
@Jx1x3 Like I said it's not an adjustment that normally is required. You might want to take it to a specialist to make sure the transmission really is the issue.
@fastodie It may not be possible as some are not adjustable but you might look in the service manual to see if there is a procedure for this you can follow. Good luck.
@rvnwingsful Oh, you fucking moron, all that slack you saw was taking up throttle response. So he'd have to move the gas around 15% JUST to increase idle. Typical youtube audience.
i got a 98 s10. when i shift it into reverse it sometimes make a weird vibration and you can hear it and it rides a little rough. but when i shift it back into park then reverse again it stoped and was fine. also it did the same in drive once. what do you think it could be.
@Jx1x3 I haven't yet as I don't own that car anymore but when I get the chance I will as that's been requested a lot as of late for some reason. BTW that adjustment should only need to be made if you are removing the transmission, otherwise don't mess with it as you could damage the transmission if you don't do it correctly.
please post the video on how to adjust the transmission cable.....my 94 tegg is shifting late and flaring up (gears 2-3 3-4)....the service manual shows you how to adjust the cable but it is very hard to make out the pictures, thanks
@deGTbaiAKAryaud It's hard for me to fill requests because I need the same car to come in needing the same thing so it's not likely that I'll be able to make that video anytime soon. The procedure is pretty much the same as what is shown here jut with the throttle cable. Good luck.
@EricTheCarGuy That's ok i understand,...i was checking it out, and followed that same cable to the transmission, and i saw another throttle leaver (the thing that looks like a quarter of a circle). It seemed alittle slack because you have to move it alittle before you hear a click. But there isn't any thing to tighten it up, the only way to tighten it up is to tighten the same cable that you are talking about in this video, and if i tighten it up to remove the slack there, then the engine revs
@akcessdenied I might check the engine mounts for that as well as the strut rods. I made a video on checking for suspension noises that you might want to check out.
@EricTheCarGuy I saw the video you did on the Acura with suspension noise which turned out to be a motor mount. The noise on my car went away. My motor mounts looked decent, I checked'em out when I was replacing the timing belt. I tightened up the nut on top of each strut and I don't hear it any more. So the timing belt is fixed, the little pop sound went away, I welded a small hole in the exhuast, and changed the oil in the tranny. Now to just wait for the next problem to come up.
So im running an older Camaro, adjusted the throttle valve cable to make it tighter, but no gains in performance. I assumed your doing the same so why do i not get results?

How can I do this to a 1998 dodge ram 1500 5.2. It has 3 cables and I can't find any place I could tighten it up
fastodie 4 months ago
@fastodie It may not be possible as some are not adjustable but you might look in the service manual to see if there is a procedure for this you can follow. Good luck.

@EricTheCarGuy throttle response is performance u beligerant asshole!
smokeymasterjedi 4 months ago
@rvnwingsful Oh, you fucking moron, all that slack you saw was taking up throttle response. So he'd have to move the gas around 15% JUST to increase idle. Typical youtube audience.

i got a 98 s10. when i shift it into reverse it sometimes make a weird vibration and you can hear it and it rides a little rough. but when i shift it back into park then reverse again it stoped and was fine. also it did the same in drive once. what do you think it could be.

did you ever make a vid of the transmission cable?? I want to adjust mine since my transmission is starting to clunk. 96 teg
Jx1x3 4 months ago
@Jx1x3 I haven't yet as I don't own that car anymore but when I get the chance I will as that's been requested a lot as of late for some reason. BTW that adjustment should only need to be made if you are removing the transmission, otherwise don't mess with it as you could damage the transmission if you don't do it correctly.

Dude...
1. This is not an upgrade, it's called maintenance...
2. Wish you would try to keep your engine as clean as your hands...

please post the video on how to adjust the transmission cable.....my 94 tegg is shifting late and flaring up (gears 2-3 3-4)....the service manual shows you how to adjust the cable but it is very hard to make out the pictures, thanks
deGTbaiAKAryaud 4 months ago
@deGTbaiAKAryaud It's hard for me to fill requests because I need the same car to come in needing the same thing so it's not likely that I'll be able to make that video anytime soon. The procedure is pretty much the same as what is shown here jut with the throttle cable. Good luck.
EricTheCarGuy 4 months ago
@EricTheCarGuy That's ok i understand,...i was checking it out, and followed that same cable to the transmission, and i saw another throttle leaver (the thing that looks like a quarter of a circle). It seemed alittle slack because you have to move it alittle before you hear a click. But there isn't any thing to tighten it up, the only way to tighten it up is to tighten the same cable that you are talking about in this video, and if i tighten it up to remove the slack there, then the engine revs

Cable throttle , how primitive. Lol

This isn't a modification, its a repair.

I also have a 20 year old Integra... Other than the timing belt that snapped a few days ago it makes a little pop sound when stop.
akcessdenied 5 months ago
@akcessdenied I might check the engine mounts for that as well as the strut rods. I made a video on checking for suspension noises that you might want to check out.
EricTheCarGuy 5 months ago
@EricTheCarGuy I saw the video you did on the Acura with suspension noise which turned out to be a motor mount. The noise on my car went away. My motor mounts looked decent, I checked'em out when I was replacing the timing belt. I tightened up the nut on top of each strut and I don't hear it any more. So the timing belt is fixed, the little pop sound went away, I welded a small hole in the exhuast, and changed the oil in the tranny. Now to just wait for the next problem to come up.

@akcessdenied Sounds like your on top of it though. Thanks for the comments.

EricTheCarGuy 6 months ago
@DJLayLow408 do you have a v6 camaro?
DIENAMICProductions 5 months ago
So im running an older Camaro, adjusted the throttle valve cable to make it tighter, but no gains in performance. I assumed your doing the same so why do i not get results?
Dabesiv 6 months ago
@Dabesiv This involves throttle response, if your throttle cable was already close to being tight then you won't see any gain.
