@ffiinnrroodd You have to hold the chalk very lightly near the back of the piece, and have a flat edge pressed against the board. You need to supply just enough pressure that the piece of chalk bounces, but not so much that it draws a line. Try doing vertical lines and eventually you'll get the feel for how to do it. Also, I think it might be easier with thick sidewalk chalk than it is with blackboard chalk, so try that too.

I've been practicing at school and I SUCCEEDED! So what works for me is hold it pretty perpendicular to the board slightly in the angle of movement and hold it at the back. This means the length has to be decent. It takes 1 or 2 lines to adjust to new pieces of chalk but then its easy.
