This isn't pusing the limits at all. You should be able to do anything to your dog if you are the leader. Watch me take away raw meat away from my rottweiler. Go to my channel and take a look at that.
What do you feed him I have been looking for a good food for my rotti I want him to fill out well as he is only 1yr old I sorta adopted him a month ago and the dry food I got for him dont seem to be doing the job I still want him healthy though like I said I want him to fill out but not be overweight
@tanki9 goto my blog page & look at what oz wants u 2 know- its listed w/ links on the left side.I feed him "Orijen"or "Stella & Chewys" as a base food but add either fresh fish, chicken, or beef ect along w/ organic yogurt or cottage cheese, olive oil, eggs, cottage cheese,pureed/steamed veggies of either asparagus, brocolli, tomatoes, carrots, cabbage ect. a daily liquid vitamin- Liquid health. His diet is a well rounded human grade diet.. Ask ur vet 2 refer u to a nutritionist...
@teewoods i trust dogs more than i trust humans. My dogs would never harm me... never. I have owned rottweilers my whole life and they have been the most incredible buddies.. if you have this problem with your dogs then it would be because they are reflecting YOU.. Dogs are a reflection of their owner.
@teewoods i believe if you love animals you love animals... I may not own a cat but it does not mean i hate or do not like them.. . they same can be said about cat lovers..
You know, I think there's a misconception about Rottweilers . They are only aggressive when they are raised aggressively. Yes, a lot of people think that these dogs can turn on you in an instant, but that is the same with golden retrievers also. Have you heard about the retriever that bit a boyfriend and girlfriend's face off while they were kissing? When they are raised by an owner that shows them gentleness and love, they trust them no matter what. This clearly what you've done here, good job.
That is so nice, we have a 4 month old rottweiler and he is so friendly. I give him tast of the wild and nothing else. Im scared of by-products. I did read most of the comments and i dind see it, where can i find recipe like this one.
K..So I already wrote a comment..But I don't see it..So here goes...Where did you find Oz's bowl??My Rottweiler is really tall and I always have to stick her bown on top of a box or something..I've been trying to find one of those bowl holder/raisers for the longest!!
@xxjujubeans I don't remember? But i am sure Foster & Smiths or Petsmart sells them.. However then it was believed that raised bowls decreased the chances of bloat (reason why i bought it) & now there r thoughts on this both ways. Some people insist that elevated feeding bowls decrease the risk of bloat & others think it increases the risk.
@choppergirlJune there are tons of risk factors for bloat: elevated food bowls, allowing dogs to drink ice water (shocking the stomach, so to speak), feeding dry kibble, feeding large meals, exercising after eatin
g & sure there are probably more that I'm not listing.
@choppergirlJune Oz is always such a sweet guy! I just wanted to weigh in on the bloat blog. lol. In my opinion eating too fast is far and away the leading culprit of bloat. Please don't misinterpret this because I think the VAST majority of dog owners should have their dogs spayed/neutered but it does increase their appetite, and the rate at which they consume their food. A male Dog doesn't completely develop his hormones for 18 mo. Neutering prior to that age will stunt their maturity!
Where did you find that bowl?? I have been looking for one!! My rottie is to tall and I feel horrible when she has to hol her neck down so far! I usually put it on a box!! Where did you find that set?
@choppergirlJune my late rottie was not aggressive to me (but to his brother dog, yes) when he ate but if he got disturbed he'd stop eating I don't know why
I'm planning to get a new puppy. how should I train him?
@monthly101 check out my blog and be sure you accomplish this checklist and socialization list successfully, its under feb 2009.. this must be done over and over and over and over and forever.. Training is essential for a rottweiler and must be worked with for their entire lives. A experienced owner with a firm understanding of training a working breed is what is best for raising a rottweiler.
Not sure if I can have a rottie this time. I've just moved and my new house is much smaller. But still, your tips will be useful with any breeds. please give Oz a warm hug from Japan :)
@e1g3r veggies, gluten free rice, olive oil, and meat... he has a pretty awesome diet :) I meet with a nutritionist for my rottie to get him on a natural and balanced diet
@choppergirlJune i would love to know the recipe or similar ones, even the name of the nutritionist or a link... I've looked but nothing legitimate. And this is for a doberman, not me. lol
@choppergirlJune I used to feed my dog the same thing... but I boiled the meat and put some of the water into his food. The meat was pork frozen for a few days. I didn't use olive oil, too. Was this diet I used actually fine? Oh and I also gave my dog raw pork/beef bone everyday.
With my rottie Jackson, I also started training him when I first got him at 7 weeks, to this point, I can put my hand in his food and he wont bite, or even when I take his bone or treat away he will not be aggressive. However, when I would babysit one of my friends Dachshund, when the pup got near him, Jackson didnt bit him, but he gave that "growl"...but it sounded like it was his playing growl, is that ok??
@marias32 How old is Jackson now? He is just communicating to the Dachshund to stay away! Jackson doesn't want to share his treat with him ;) I would not give him a REAL bone with another dog around... i love the nylabones since they are indestructable and dogs will not protect them as they would something that is real...
@choppergirlJune Lol...I figured it would be something like that! He is actually 16 months, I will definitely have to try these Nylabones, I've never seen them at the store though!! but thanks for the advice!! :D
Ya, well so did my rottie til u give him a pigs ear. Try somethan like that. Alls it takes is the right thing. They all have it, the guard. Its still and animal not human.
@AL0CK did you see the video of oz with his braided pizel treat? with Oz it doesn't matter with him if its a steak, pig ear, anything... i started him young with not guarding..
Mine two rottweillers do the same but I think obviusly just with me... I put also my hand inside the food to "leave" my "perfum" inside the food 'cause that is what people more expert than me told me to do when they don't want to eat... and it works really!!! And you can have also a better friendship with your dog too!!!
Amazing!!!! How did you train him to do that? My girl didn't bite us but digging our hand in her food was not an option. Id like the next one to be trained this way since I will be ready to start a family soon.
it doesn't matter what it is :) and this isn't regular food its fresh meat, rice, and veggies. But he will not guard anything.. Its all in the training.
@choppergirlJune sounds good, mine does not though, on regular food she doesnt guard the food, but with half a chicken she does. (a whole half chicken)
Wow! That dog's got a great temperment, esp. 4 a rottie! You should be lucky, most dogs, esp. rotties will give you a nasty, bloody bite! So be careful! I would NOT try this with any dog, even if some1 paid me!
wow i tried what you said in earlier post on my 3 month old ive had 4 days and i cant believe it stopped his growling when petted at food dish in one day can pet his head and all and just get a inviting lick ty so much was the only problem with this very loving smart rotti
That is great to hear!!! Just remember never to be a threat to his food. So while you are working with him give him half of his food and then while he is eating start adding more and more until the other half is gone..... therefore your hand and your girlfriends or anyone that is in contact with the dog while he is eating is not a threat... He will learn that he does not have to protect his food...
I started with him when he was just a puppy and always added something yummy to his bowl while he was eating... So my hand was always invited = positive. I never took away his bowl while he was eating = negative (common mistake many people make). I always shared his toys by holding one side helping him in holding his toys while he chew the other side... ect... my hands and presence never posed a threat but were invited.
I 've trained that with my boy's as they were pup's already. Now my 1 boy (i've got left) I can take anything of him, even food from his mouth!( luckely, cause he finds food in strange places :b) it's a mather of trust , understanding and training. Thank you June for educating people!
i trained my dog like this too but when i moved out and came back my little brother and dad fucked with him all the time and now tries to guard everything he gets
Great Job ! Every Rottie owner should trian them this way, I did the same thing when mine was a puppy and he knows the hand brings good things so theres no resource gaurding of food, no growling or stay away ..Its all in the trianing and I wish more rottie owners would just educate themselfs on this beautiful breed! Then rotties would stop getting a bad rap! Hats off to you! Great Job!
thank you :) He is my boy!! love him with all my heart!! He is silly one!! I wish I could capture so many of the other silly things he does... Just need to attached my camera to my hip i guess :P Thanks for watching!
I was given a 3 month old rotti ,didnt have the heart to see him go to humane society in a large city like that : ( . No problems but resource guarding so far only with food already broke him of his chew toy i will try this method i pray that it works this growl when his head is head is toched scares my girlfriend knowing how big he will be.
Love ur vids. We have 3 kids, ages 14, 7, & 4. Plus 2 rotti. We've train both kids & dogs this way
