As a Californian who lives just about in the middle of the state, I'd have to say that most outsiders don't really understand the nature of the relationship between north and south.

If labels help at all, it's pretty much the northern hippie-yuppies versus the southern snobby-yuppies. The majority of Californians who actually have to worry about paying the mortgage don't really give a damn. Personally I think both sides are equally annoying, liberal-minded or not.

This song is really funny. I went out to Southern California for the first time a year or so ago. I was working with a 97 yo lady at the time and when I told her I was going she said, Why would you want to go THERE? It wasnt that bad.
