I must say those are great Queen's indeed, Isebela is my fav but they are all great and each of them have there own streagth and love for there people and country, I have to say Queens of love for country and people as a love for a child, but a kings only want one thing, POWER, they don't care for there people in a way but only care about Power and money, I mean look at King Henry the 8th he is the top man of kings that are selfish.
@WhiskerScot569 Henry's Son? righht, I think it is time well in my opinon I think it is time for us to have a woman president!!! I mean men sure have not done a hell of a job for the courntry or people, I mean if we had great Queens, of the past surly we would have a great woman president?
@Hattaru im not american but you may be right but i was talking about Edward III who commited genocide on france in the hundred years war because of the money he got from looting normandy and surrounding france your thinking of Edward VI but if you did have a woman president i'd be curious to see how it turns out
Isabella I's only flaw is the inquisition otherwise she would be a saint queen. I always felt sorry for Joanna. The queens of Aragon and Navarre werent included!
I love Spanish History...as a Dominican I consider it as much apart of me than anything else. I've walked the ruins in Santo Domingo, Seville, Cordoba, Granada and will continue to do so for the rest of my life. But I am not as some people here, who fail to recognize the not so loving and pious aspects of that Empire. Isabella was a great Queen whose love and might established a great country, but whose might also led to the exile and slaughter of muslims, christians and other undesirables...
do not get me wrong...no one is innocent in history....but only when we are able to consider the good and the bad aspects of our culture, will we be able to finally acknowledge who we are.
@cocobeanqueen the first part is from a Television of Spain's( TVES) series about the end of Kingdom of Granada. ( REQUIEM FOR GRAGNADA) and thes last scenes are from Conquest of Paradise a 1992 movie with Gerard Depardieu like Columbus and Sigourney Weaver like the Queen Isabel I
Ysabel WAS the xenith of spanish power. she alone set into motion the chain of events that gained spain a seat as the first truly global empire and intercontinental superpower. the first. she was also arguably the most pious monarch in world history. she should be a saint.
@PhxVanguard She is also one of the most intolerant Spanish leaders when it comes to dealing with non-Catholics. They persecuted the Muslims, Jews, Protestants and other non-Catholics in the Iberian Peninsula. That's the only thing I disagree with her and King Fernando - their cruel "Reconquest" plan.
@mjay22 and what were the moorish conquerors of middle ages spain if not intolerant? spain's path to power was through it's unified piety. not corporate greed like england, or wild narcissism like france. there was at that time no room for more than one religion in a unified spain. just how tolerant of catholics are saudi arabians today? just how tolerant of catholics have muslims ever been?!
You would be surprised then to learn that The Kingdom of Granada under Boabdil was perhaps the most tolerant Kingdom in the Iberian, harboring many jews and christians who fled the Spanish Inquisition. Also please remember the Alhambra Decree which exiled all Jews and later Muslims from Granada. I love Spain with all my heart, she is the mother country. But we should acknowledge her for who she was..the good and the bad.
@alexgomez83 The inquisition was only for Christians. Look forward "1066 Granada massacre" in the Kingdom of Granada, was that tolerance? the History of Spain is unkowledge out of Spain. There have had bad things, very bad. But it isn't the same massacre than expulsion. And there are a Black legend created by british and now the world speak and read english
@mjay22 in the age of Isabel the protestantims doesn`t exists and the persecution and expulsion of the Jews and Muslims was demanded by all the catholic Europe from Norway to France, from Portugal to Hungary
@mjay22 so we should just be slaughtered by the Muslims right??? I DONT THINK SO...........THOSE MUSLIMS CAME WENT INTO SPAIN WITH THE SWORD.........GIVE ME A FUCKING BREAK..........
@mjay22 During the time of Urraca, Juana and Isabella I there were no such thing as Protestants! By non-Catholics: You must be referring to Muslims and Jews. Please do not forget that all - most of North Africa was Catholic(Christian) until the Muslim invasions in which those that did not convert to Islam were persecuted, slaughtered....
@evaperonfan If Joan die without issue, the next in line of succession would be Maria of Aragon (queen of Portugal and the only isabella's daughter who was happy)
@gato123452 no. The Spanish-American War broke out between Spain and the United States in 1898, during the infancy of King Alfonso XIII, when exercised the regency of Queen Maria Cristina of Hapsburg like queen regent. sorry my delay in responding you
Finally, a video featuring the intriguing marvelous Isabel and her equally amazing predecessor Urraca of Castile. I loved this video and the music used. What is the name of the film with Urraca in it?

I know the riegn of Isabel II was bad..but you should understund the chaotic circumstances during her reign.
she was declared queen with only three years in a Civil war country, her mother leave her with Gral Espartero an leave the country.
She is proclamed soveriegn with only 13 years old.
Forced to married with a gay man at 17, who hate her...
