My second favorite film (after the seminal "Chinatown") This film also contains the most breathtaking performance of it's kind. I refer, of course to the REAL star of Welles masterpiece, Agnes Moorehead :)
Ambersons is a light hearted tragedy. There's no rising action, only falling action, like Macbeth. Despite the happy ending, it was always intended to be the downward spiral of history albeit a family history. Welles had a way of making comic characters, like Falstaff, tragic. But, instead of one character, here he makes a whole film that way. It's too bad he never tackled James Joyce.
Does anyone know the name of the waltz that plays about 2:18 as George and Lucy are walking and Lucy is smelling her flowers? I bought the CD soundtrack but Its not on it.
One has a strong desire to slap Georgie around the chops and say "Wake up, you insufferable prig. Snap out of your snobbish stupor and smell the coffee."
@Jagdtoq Not one single dress in the entire movie is styled 1930s. This production was thoroughly researched and close meticulous attention paid to every detail. You're quite wrong and you need to do research before you make idiotic comments.
@skylur44 Quite right, they couldn't even get that right, and why do they keep saying horseless carriage? the date aimed at is clearly 1905 and by then the term motor or automobile was in common use
@Jagdtoq What difference does it make? Why must you nitpick a true classic? If you can't enjoy the movie, watch something else and let us who appreciate it, enjoy it.
3:05 - 3:16 LOL - " Well ! " - total Jack Benny impression. And: "queer looking duck" - Cotton did wave in a queer sort of way, imo. Good scene. Georgie is such a knob. "(i'm gonna be) a yachtsman" Baxter looks great. She could do better... I love D's dress!
When will part 1 be up?

No gtfopaedophile, this is Part 2. Part 1 was blocked because stankavideo needs to mute the song and then reupload it, with that muted.

Dolores Costello was so gorgeous. And Tim Holt had quite a range; to play this part and Treasure of the Sierra Madre, amazing.

Less than 20 minutes into the film and the son is already one of the most empty characters in all of cinema

For some reason I'm always drawn to the dance sequence at 7:00, love the way Morgan and Isabelle foxtrot to that music that sounds like Copeland.
