The one you saw in Bali was a replica! These cars do not drive on roads. And you won't ever be able to buy one of these since there were only 7 made and are all in museums. Replicas are very nice and will cost you about 20k

@GeSchmidtt wrong, that's a straight 8. The 300sl had a slant 6. The 300slr used a straight 8 that was similar to the unit used in their f1's. The 300sl and the 300slr were two totally different cars. Having seen the engine in one of these cars at the Mercedes museum, and being able to count, i can say without any fear of contradiction that it is, in fact a straight 8 at the heart of this magnificent old beast.
