  • This song speaks for itself

  • "♥"more i don´t want to say because that is the thing i will discribe this band and this song!

  • God I love looking at the comments and seeing people thinking the exact same things as me.

Pointing to little bits and saying more than COOL LYRICS

    6:20

    I love that

How it keeps bringing it up, I'm not sure, but it feels like it's changing keys each little time it does that. Has a REALLY nice sound to it, I love it.

  • 4:10 is one of the greatest verses of all time.

  • This is NOT a good song. This is a fucking EPIC song man.

  • I don't think there's a word in any language known to humankind or any species from this world or another that describe the perfection of this song!

  • I had orgasm at 4:11 :DDD

  • It's a travesty I've just started hearing these guys for the first time today. They're fantastic

  • wow, hating within the prog scene... i thought only VERY few childish dream theater and opeth fans do that from time to time...

cant we just enjoy all the brilliant music from all the brilliant bands, like pos, symphony x, opeth, dream theater, and countless others, without having to fight over which band is better?!

  • 4:10... Such good harmonizing holy shit..

  • Nice Song !!!

  • amazing band , and this song makes me chill :D love it

  • This is my all time favorite Progressive Metal song EVER!!! This is what you can call real music. It's perfect and unparalleled.

  • God! I love the end of this song. Its really emotional!!

  • best band in history, hands down. and this is one of their best songs.

  • swedis bands r awesome

  • What album is this from please?

  • @longhairedlarrikin The album name is The Perfect Element.

  • Awesome song :D one of my fav bands YEAH!!!

" Check out my entire prog metal album on my youtube channel"

Come on, WHY NOT!!?? LOL :P

    KEEP ON RICKIN' YEAH!!!!

  • favorite bands, Opeth, Dream Theater, Pain of Salvation, Between the Buried and Me and Symphony X. i'm such a typical prog fan.

  • @flashbackguitar you should try pink floyd. :)

they're like influence to all the bends you like. :)

  • @flashbackguitar You just missed Porcupine Tree there :P

  • any good band should often aspire to be the way they want to be. but should never stay the same if they begin to dry up. the fact that this band reinvented themselves the way they did probably means that they began to find writing good material of their old style too hard when coming up with new original stuff that sounds good to them.

  • new stuff= crap comparing to this

  • Much better than their new stuff! And prop allso much better than what the 22 people that pressed dislike listen to!

  • Who are the 22 retards that didn't like this? They must've missed the button.

Man...the chat between the child and her father is just heartbreaking... I allways end up crying with the last words "still as they burn, she will return, back to the adults of her home"... Daniel's portrait of emotions through his vocals is outwordly.

  • PoS are progressive... And Daniel is the most expressive singer I've ever heard. Source of inspiration for the italians Atomixynergy

  • For a long time I couldn't get into this band. But since Remedy Lane and BE, they are on my top list of talented prog bands (without being "proggy" in the way of Yes or Genesis)

  • I strongly believe Daniel Gildenlow to be one of the most talented singers of our times....His control is absolutely amazing, his technique is flawless and his vocal lines are sooo good !!! Love him !!!! (and that's an order :D)

  • @Karafliazoproora I agree completely, his voice is simply stunning!

  • @Karafliazoproora

I couldnt agree with you more. Daniel is amazing

  • sweden!!!!

  • This song is about a girl running away from home because her dad raped her, you're welcome

  • Amazing song and unbelievable vocals! To be able to use your voice like this!

  • Amazing song and unbelievable vocals! To be able to use your voice like this!

  • part 4:45 after the screaming is fucking epic!

  • @nethendril The bands that are hardest to come in to are usually those who are the best of bands when you've learned to like them xD. That the way of some prog, math metal bands or any genre.

  • @Harclaim You should check out maudlin of the Well

  • Comment removed

  • your opinion is shit. i wipe my ass with your opinion. your opinion is lower from the shit of a worm that lives on a turd. how you feel ? :D

  • @nethendril ...

  • ur a pain

  • @nethendril hahahaha, funny guy

  • Never thought anyone would be able to challenge Tore Ostby(Conception,Ark) as my favourite guitarist, but man, this is amazing

  • @dattish Ark and Pos are my favourite bands ever! Finally found someone with decent taste in music! :D

  • and about labrie, and wold really love to see a dream theater song played by THIS monstrous guys of pain of salvation

    they really rock

  • Amazing melody. One of the best rock songs ever for me.

Guitar and voices interaction are just AWESOME!

  • this is by far the best melody that was discovered by any human being

i asume thats the best melody of the entire universe

  • @BierGier yes i have thought that for many years my friend... many years

  • @In2Infinity

wow... now i´m interested what has topped this ? please tell me :)

  • @BierGier Anything and everything. Go turn on the radio, anything will do. Aha ha ha ha ha.

  • @BierGier I like the term "discovered"

  • @BierGier I really hope you are kidding me. Fruit cake.

  • @BierGier too much :)

  • @yaSso0oR14

ok you´re right. maybe the best in our galaxy ;)

  • @BierGier Only if symphony x made the song (candlelight fantasia) outside of galaxy ;]

  • @BierGier perhaps the only band u know and listen to is pain of salvation xD

  • @yaSso0oR14

    for sure .... -.-

  • @BierGier sorry for bothering u :P

  • @BierGier Just about every other Opeth song has a better melody

  • @danthebackerman1

    opeth cries when gildenlöw sings

  • @danthebackerman1 Come on now, you can't even compare Opeth and Pain of Salvation. They are two equally brilliant forces of musical genius.

  • To me its how Daniel uses his range of voice that puts him ahead of singers like Labrie, but thats more Labrie's bands fault for not recognizing his talent and allowing him space to use it.

  • well, Labrie is an amazing singer. To keep up with DT's monster musicians is not an easy job. And he also gets to collaborate with Ayreon! =D

  • best song

  • I agree. I love Pain of Salvation,Opeth and Dream Theater. They are all some of my favourite bands.

  • oops, was my fault :)

  • WHAT THE FUCK???? NO AUDIO??

  • turn on speaker :)

  • hahahahhahah

  • What's with all the hate? Can't we just agree that both Opeth and DT are talented and influential bands. Personally I'm big fans of both.

As for Gojira I've heard them and there's no doubt they are very talented. Not really my cup of of tea but still, respect.

  • awesome. just awesome

  • good love this album

  • Why argue on whos better? Someday you are going to die. Seems like a waste of time.

  • coming from the person spending their oh-so-precious days commenting on video text comments...

  • today i just discovered like 8 new progressive metal bands. my fav one is still opeth tho. but this is amazing!. i dont know why everyone is saying DT is better. they are one of my fav bands but i mean, come on. respect all the music. sure their are some bands i prefer than other, but one has influenced the other.

  • cos ppl always wants to have the last word of wisdom. I prefer to enjoy every (enjoyable and respectable) band on its own, instead of comparing them

  • Opeth fucking rocks, and yeah..you can't compare them with DT.They are just totally different

  • Should have uploaded in HQ.

  • on of the besttttt

  • Which song is the best one? :O

  • Johan has short hair and doesn't look like a cave-man ^^ :)

  • You could say Pain of Salvation its an acquired(sp?) taste. And I'm so glad I acquired it. Once you get into them, they're just awesome.

  • There is no such thing as "unnecessary long" with PoS :D

  • How do you figure? This is how progressive rock goes.

  • I agree and disagree. I don't like this band but I don't like symphony X or protest the hero. they should play with andromeda.

  • i like this band. i can understand not liking them though. symphany X is amazing! have all their albums. Have you listened to Gojira?

  • You are ignorant, buddy.

  • baban boring!

  • I would call it anything but

  • POS for ever...

  • And with ALL this hussle and bussle on these two prog bands... i have to add.. THEY ARE ON THE PROGRESSIVE TOUR TOGETHER THIS YEAR YAHHHH

  • rabble rabble, can't i go to videos from other prog bands without DT banter? come on, it makes it impossible to find any input from fans.

(don't misunderstand DTs my favorite band)

  • LaBrie is an awesome singer, no doubt 'bout that..

But I gotta say that Gildenlow controls his voice much better and his feeling is almost unhuman..

I love both Dream Theater and PoS but I preffer PoS

That's MY opinion no need to argue 'bout it

  • fking great song, epic.

stop arguing bout pos and dt, both are aswome.

  • james labrie doesn't suck. His voice just sometimes doesn't match their music.

it sounds completely out of place on train of thought.

  • LaBrie don't have such dynamic high notes. He has a good voice, but when the music is going to be a lilbit faster, he just can't keep the tempo.

    (Sry for my english...)

  • Why is it every video of any progressive metal band has comment saying DT is better and one comment saying they are worse?

  • Because Dream Theater fans on youtube are mostly stupid kids that won't shut the fuck up about their "gods", as if we have never heard of them. Probably the first prog metal they have ever heard, so they feel threatened by other good prog bands.

  • Because DT has so many fans that some are bound to comment on a movie, and then fans of that band are bound to answer. And so you've got it going. Plenty of people who like both though. We just tend to be more neutral.

  • Dream Theater fans are terrible. That's why I'm not a fan of any music. I simply enjoy it and let it influence me positively! :D

  • Don't have to be a fan of anything to remain a dickhead like yourself.

    Grats.

  • DT bands are the best, they care so much about the band, Score went platinum, what does that tell you. They are a prog band who went platinum thats a feat. that hardly ever comes around

  • Ok, but then you still have the matter of "opinion". Oh don't misunderstand they're my favourite band, but since SC alot of stupid kids came in who'd prefer Systematic Chaos above anything... Anyway, Enough about DT. Let's talk about my 3rd favourite band :) PoS

  • i meant fans

  • i know where you're coming from, but he still sounds fairly similar to him, and I don't like that singing style :[

  • That's all fine. People have different preferences, but to the people that said that both the vocalists suck, that's just wrong. They might not like that style of singing, but they're both very talented singers.

  • Dude James Labrie has a way way way higher range than this guy. Sounding like that is what happens when your a guy hitting notes in the alto range, it's tough as hell.

  • James Labrie does not have a higher range than Daniel Gildenlow - maybe he is stronger in the higher notes, such as his inhuman F#5, but Daniel GIldenlow can go slightly higher, so you are wrong in that respect.

  • I don't know the exact range of Daniel, but James can go up to A# (err, quite bad in vocals, but I could tell). Maybe even more, that's the best I heard him doing live. Maybe Daniel can do higher, still, i'm just saying.

Opeth, DT and PoS are great, not trying to and won't compare anything between em.

  • When have you ever heard LaBrie hit an A♯5? The highest I've heard is A5, in live versions of "A Fortune in Lies", "Lines in the Sand" and the cover of "The Number of the Beast".

  • he hit an F#5 in learning to live.

  • A♯5 is higher than F♯5...

  • o sorry I'm not very good with things like that, i know a B is lower than a C and a D is higher than a B otherwise I know nothing, i was just being ignorant, my mistake.

  • If you know the order of keys on a piano, it follows exactly that. Each octave starts on C and ends on B. So in the fifth octave, there's C5, C♯5, D♯5, E5, F5, F♯5, G5, G♯5, THEN A5, then A♯5, and finally B5. Like I said, the highest I've heard LaBrie hit is A5, but this guy was talking about him hitting an A♯5, which would be news to me.

  • ahhhh i see, well thanks for that little lesson, and i never knew he hit anything higher than a F#5 so in that case that's really big news to me.

  • Meh so I was wrong in a half note. Though i'm positive he hit A#5 somewhen in 92-93, I mean it's just a half note from there and he endlessly got to G5-A5 at those years.

  • Eh, he didn't hit that many A5s that I know of. The only one from 92-93 that I've heard recorded is that one from "A Fortune In Lies" live in Tokyo. The other two are more recent, with "The Number Of The Beast" being from 2005 and the live version of "Lines In The Sand" where he hits it that I heard being from 2007.

But yes, his G5s from those years were numerous. However, there's no guarantee that he's ever hit an A♯5 until we hear recorded proof.

  • Actually, never mind what I said about it being an A5 in that live version of "Lines In The Sand" that I heard...I now think it's more of a sharp G♯5 instead. The "A Fortune In Lies" note is a little flat as well, but I think it's still an A5. The G♯5 in "The Number Of The Beast" definitely has trills to A5, though.

  • Another one in Octavarium, Chile (NOT Score) 2005

The Killing Hand had a few G5 and i'm quite sure G#5 and A5 here and there, I might be wrong though...just look at the video "the high notes of james labrie", quite sure they have a few there.

  • both dream theater and pos are great, can't we just leave it at that?

and you people who say the singers suck, I bet you couldn't do a better job so shut up

  • Dream Theater and POS's singers don't ruin the music. We just live in a time where for some stupid reason we have to have screaming screaming and more screaming to be metal. While thats good and all, More talent went into the vocalists of bands who actually sing and people think thats a bad thing now. When actually its a really really good thing. Both of these bands have really good singers, but POS is never going to be as ungodly good as dream theater.

  • undertow is the best song ^they have made imo ^^

  • eheehe i wouldn't say they ruin the music, their voices just aint my cuppa :p

  • they are hard to get into..

but when you do they are pure amazingg.

  • You know that feeling when you're reading something or listening to a song and you think "Damn, i wish i wrote that." The last five minutes of this song embodies that feeling for me.

    Genius.

  • omg..what an amazing song!

    totally underestimated this band

  • 4:51 - till the end of the song

    pure perfection

  • idk, I cant get into these guys. Dt has so much more energy

  • they may have more energy, but pos is just pure emotional genius

  • I get where your coming from man..Im nt bashing them at all..very creative and talented musicians but to my ears there is just a certain energy or vibe lacking....maybe its me or I just need to give them more time

  • your damn right this is a good fucking song

  • awesome

    4:06 - 4:37

    fabolous <3

  • Ayreon is those two bands and more put together. Arjen Lucasson is the Jesus of Prog metal. If you love those two bands, you'll @#$%ing die over Ayreon. GO NOW

  • I second that times a million.

  • Agreed.

  • Not bad, but obviously I prefer stuff a little heavier (ala DT and Opeth). But DT is my favorite band: ever

  • My greatest experience with music is in this song... From 4;52 to 5;56

Just after come The Cranberries, on "Animal Instinct".

  • Great band from a great country

  • great song

  • luv this song.

  • My favourite PoS song, and probably my favourite song in general :)

  • I like this song, they're not the gods, but not far away, Dream Theater is the god of Prog-music i think.

Pain Of Salvation is an awesome band i love them:)

  • Dream Theater are maybe the gods of Progressive Metal, not of Prog per se, which are others, the founders, the fathers, the gods.

  • I would have to say Opeth then DT. But thats just me since i like darker shit

  • I would say Jazz Fusion, but that's just me.

  • I would say Rick Astley, but that's just me.

  • lulz

  • To bad Opeth is nothing like DT and DT is nothing like Opeth idiot. If I had to choose I would put Opeth ahead of them anyway.

  • this is perhaps my favorite Prog metal song, thus far!!!

  • pain of salvation , opeth, porcupine tree.

    there damn awsome bands

  • There's still hope for humanity! Yay!

  • Omg i so Love this band I saw them live!!They are gods!

  • this is a sad song but its so damn good

i cant stop saying that the perfect element 1IS perfect

  • ifu like this u will adore opeth

  • i love opeth

  • i saw opeth live recently :D:D

  • i am going to see opeth live in march... ON MY BIRTHDAY... suck on that bitches...

  • epic

  • My sister heard the intro of this Song and She said It sounded like Sonic Music.

  • space dyed vest best soul song ever

that song will make me sad no matter what mood im in

  • thats too hard - it's just staged flatulence for the plastic food generation. ;-]

  • perfect!

  • "your favourite band and you dont think they have soul? Have you even heard of DT before? If you know every DT song by heart and dont think they have soul theres seriously something wrong with you."

stop fucking comparing these two bands. they're nothing alike.

  • My favorite albums for pos in order are 1. pe, 2. rl, 3. 1hbtcl, 4. be, 5. entropia, 6. scarsick. Concrete, entro, and be are all pretty close though and really different to compare. Too bad Kristian and Johan are no longer a part of the band.

  • Kristian? you mean Kristoffer?

by the way, interesting list! It's really hard to compare PoS-albums, because they're so different. my list would be 1) TPE 2) OHBTCL 3)Be 4) RL 5) Scarsick 6) Entropia

but they're all so close that it's almost impossible for me to say that TPE actually is the best

  • Lol I know what you mean. I go in phases with the albums, but PE is definitely my favorite. Sorry bout Gildenlow name but you know who I'm talking about. Anyways, I can't wait for the next pos album already. I'm sure it will be really different (like all their albums). Cool. Heh

  • I just get an orgasm whenever Daniel goes "Fly Away"

His vocal inspirations are quite clear, but no one can match the emotion he puts in :)

  • so ya, thought ya, might like to, go to the show!

    wait what?..
