Hi All. I thought you would enjoy knowing that Steve produced an old billiards video - Pool The Masters Way with Pretty Boy Floyed and Ewa Mataya. I review the tape every couple of years and enjoy it much, especially when my game is down and need a good pool vid. .
I watched steve jr. grow from his teens. One night at Steve seniors pool hall he was playing Frank Paradise in straight pool when Steve jr came in and said I've got the winner. Frank beat Senior, won the break against jr. and broke the balls. Nothing went in. Steve jr. got up ran 125 balls the game was over. Junior was a great billiards and snoocker player also. I watched him run more than 100 points in snoocker a few times.
Grady Mathews says the Miz was the greatest straight pool player ever. Good enough for me.
First book on pool I ever owned, even before Byrne's, was Steve Mizerak's Complete Book of Pool. Though I never had the pleasure of seeing him play in his prime, he's always been a favorite.
myths about Fats 1.The best player ever, not true of course. 2.That he was a bad player. He was good at 1 pocket, just ask anyone from Johnson City. When he played Mosconi in the 70s, they both played terrible. Fats had suffered his 1st stroke just a year before and Mosconi had'nt hit a ball in 3years.
Well said....there are some trolls out there who haven't seen the light of day in years and got nothin' better to do than be "haters". Sad. I never had the pleasure of seeing "The Miz" play in person, but I love watching my Accu-Stat videos of him up at the Sands tourny's in Reno. A great talent and lovable personality. RIP, Steve...
Amateur...I would say he was more than that...they even made a movie about the man. willi was great...there was alot of players in the old days that played like no one these days.
You're right. People that think Fats was the best never even saw him play. He could hustle, according to history. But there's very little footage of him actually playing. People that say he was the best probably read a book Fats wrote saying he'd played with kings across the world or some crap like that.
Do realize that Minnesota Fats in "The Hustler" was a fictional character? Rudolph Wanderone changed his name and billed himself as "Minnesota Fats" after that and made alot of money. But never had the repuation of the character in the movie.
I grew up at the 4 seasons. I saw him at his peak. On many occasions I saw him do shots that were impossible. Shots that I can set up and attempt all day long and not have a chance at doing. And Im a hundred ball runner. Damn I miss those days.
Just getting into this man, he was an all time great player!!....big loss to the game he died so young.

RULE #1. Don't try a trick shot that takes 181 times to get.

I have a funny admission. When I was a small child (under 10 years) I thought Steve was Minnesota fats.

The last trick shot made me smile.
I was never a fan of trick shots because they were set up.
I was doing those first two he showed back in the 60's.
I remember Steve when he went around to the pool rooms in Brooklyn.
he was good.....damn good!!!

Here's one for all you "old school" players out there (Johnson City days, etc.)...
How would you rate Buddy Hall's pool playing ability and legacy back in his "heyday" against the all-time greats??? Thanks.....

the cue ball has to be close to the railing for him to make a shot.
vcrm1 3 years ago
watch the trick at 5:30 as the 3 ball comes back towards him he directs the ball with his stick, you can hear it as well.

I know it's the internet and it must be faaaaaabulous to just post something stupid sitting behind your computer.
If you don't have anything useful to say, just don't post anything at all. It's disgraceful.
Steve Mizerak was a great champion and an even greater person. How anyone can post garbage like you did, just baffles me.

Fats, at best, was a good amateur. He never won a pro tourney and couldn't carry Mosconi's jock strap.
Willie Mosconi is hands down the greatest pool player ever-check the records.
